A lovely cosy and bright cottage which is newly refurbished in the heart of the South Downs National Park. South Stoke is a tiny hamlet in the depths of the countryside next to the River Arun, close to the wonderful historic centre of Arundel and its magnificent castle. You can walk or cycle straight out the door onto great routes along the river and up into the downland too.

The space

This is a lovely simple ex-farm cottage with a large open plan kitchen and dining area (all newly installed and decorated) with a huge sliding door opening onto the stunning landscape beyond and onto the decked outside eating area.

There is a cosy snug with huge sofa, wood burning stove and television, off which there is a utility room with downstairs toilet. Upstairs are 3 bedrooms - 2 with kingsize beds and one with a bunk bed. There is also a travel cot and high chair at the cottage. The bathroom is also upstairs with a bath and a shower in the bath.

Guest access

You will be given a key code for the key safe. There is a parking area in front of the property. Please close gates as the cottage is within a large estate with sheep/cattle etc.

Interaction with guests

Please call me if you have any urgent problems during your stay.

Shelley (who cleans the cottage) and Mark her husband live next door, but they do have a lot of children to look after so please do not disturb them unless you think it is absolutely necessary!

Other things to note

Please note that during school holiday periods we prefer bookings of four nights or more.

The co-op in arundel is the nearest place to buy food. There are larger supermarkets near littlehampton (morissons).

Linen and a few towels are provided for your stay but we recommend you bring extra towels, especially if you want to go swimming at the sea or in the arundel lido.

This house is fantastic - in a beautiful, peaceful location. The kitchen which looks onto stunning views was our favourite room! What a great space! All th bedrooms were very comfortable and perfect for our needs. We walked to the black rabbit and had a wonderful lunch and really enjoyed Arundel and its castle. Perfect house!

We (a family of 2 adults and 3 young children) had a lovely time. The kids loved the garden, and the horses in the field behind. It really does feel like you are deep into the remote countryside, even though just a short drive from Arundel, and we'd recommend it to anyone looking for that sort of accommodation.

We had an amazing weekend in the house. We booked it originally because of the convenient location (my sister was getting married in South Stoke), but it turned out to be a little gem tucked away in the South Downs. The bedrooms are a good size (our 4 and 3yr olds loved the bunkbed) and the kitchen has incredible views over the fields down to the river. You can eat breakfast whilst watching sheep and horses graze. We went on some lovely walks in the area and blackberry picking. The garden was great for our children (several arguments over the swing) and they were very happy running around. Don't book this place if you want to be in the middle of a town, but it's a must book if you want a beautiful house, in quiet and beautiful countryside. The location really is the English countryside at its best. Thank you - we hope to be back.

This is a very special place. Quiet, but not dead. An interesting, historical and beautiful oasis of seclusion in the otherwise hectic south east of England. We loved every minute we spent here. Among the special assets has to be the garden space and the, to my mind, atmosphere and stunning view courtesy of the kitchen diner's giant windows. Even better than the website photos suggest. There are so many possible walking routes from the house up onto the hills and along the river etc, I'm only sorry we had so little time to investigate them. So that there's no doubt about your destination, I'd recommend having a hard copy of the 'exact' property location with you to find your way, if only because, depending on your mobile network coverage, phone reception can be a bit hit and miss if you're using it as a satnav in this area.

Beautifully refurbished house in a peaceful hamlet with wonderful views. The beds were comfortable and the house was very clean and had everything we needed for a girls get together to walk on the South Downs Way. Annie was very easy to contact and the whole weekend stay was lovely, a real find.
