The space

PLEASE READ ALL OF THE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR PLACE BEFORE BOOKING ESPECIALLY REGARDING SOLAR POWER AND ENVIRONMENTAL TOILET. We want you to be comfortable during your stay and suited to the accommodation that we provide.
Babenorek Studio was hand built by us and a builder friend 15 years ago to live in with our 3 young children while we built our family home close by. It is constructed from Lime rendered Straw Bales so the walls are extremely well insulated making it cool in summer and warm in winter with no need for air conditioning. The use of recycled timbers and building materials is prominent through out the building. As well as being an important part of our sustainable building ethos these materials add to its rustic, homely appeal. There is an internal rendered mud brick wall and an earth floor in the living room. Upstairs is a QS bed with your choice of a feather or woollen doona and 2 single beds. Downstairs there is a gas oven for cooking and a Nectre wood fire for warmth which can also be used to boil the kettle or cook soup on. A small fridge will store enough food and drinks for a few days. A spacious bathroom with a waterless composting toilet and a shower is adjacent to the kitchen/living area. There is also an outside shower to wash the sand off when you return from the beach or cool off under on a hot night.

Guest access

Babenorek Studio is attached to our house by a wide carport but has its own private entry. We will be here to meet you & show you around the Studio & will also check in with you each day. Car parking is right beside the studio.

Interaction with guests

As travellers ourselves we know that you can learn a lot from the locals and we are happy to assist you with information about your stay in the area. We will check in with you each day but otherwise leave you to have a peaceful stay.

Other things to note

As with our home, Babenorek Studio operates off a Stand Alone Solar System. This means that we collect all our power from the sun and are not connected to any mains power. This can sometimes be an issue if we have had several days of cloudy weather, however we do use a generator when needed. We charge electrical appliances such as laptops and mobile phones during the sunlight hours and ask our guests to do the same. Please don't bring any hair straighteners, hair dryers or irons as they can overload our system. There is no TV in the Studio but plenty of books and board games to entertain you. Please bring your own laptop if you want to watch films or visit the historic Lorne Cinema.
We have 2 friendly dogs Lucy an elderly Fox Terrier X and Gus an energetic black Kelpie who LOVES to have a ball thrown for him.

We had an absolutely lovely time staying at Babenorek Studio. Our expectations were definitely met, and exceeded! It is a beautiful and calm space, with everything needed at your fingertips. The area is stunning and taking a stroll down the road led to breathtaking views and an incredible sunset. We really appreciated how comfy the bed is, how cosy the studio feels, and the awareness of sustainability practices. Rob and Veronica were friendly and open and made us feel comfortable to ask if we needed anything.

We had a wonderful stay at Babenorek Studio! We were visiting the area to go to Brae which is a convenient 15 min drive away. The location is breathtaking, surrounded by bush and paddocks with some nice walking tracks. The studio had everything we needed and we enjoyed the extra touches like fresh eggs from the chooks & the organic milk in the fridge left for us. Veronica (& family) were the perfect hosts, gave us space to do our own thing but was available with some good local knowledge and tips on walking tracks when we needed it.

Babenorek Studio its the perfect get away if you...yeah...just want to get away. The place has everything you need and I truly enjoyed cooking a nice meal and making myself comfortable in front of the fireplace. I was originally worried that it might be a bit cold during winter, but the fireplace heats up the rooms in no time and gives the place a very comfortable and homely feel. Veronica and Rob are very helpful and make sure you have everything you need during your stay. Bring your favourite CDs and a good book and relax at Babenorek Studio. Highly recommended!

My partner and I loved our weekend at the Babenorek Studio! Veronica and Rob have built a beautiful and unique space that is a perfect peaceful escape from the city bustle and a great place from which to explore the Great Ocean Road. Veronica and Rob were very friendly and welcoming; and happy to share their knowledge of the area and all things local to see and do. We enjoyed a lovely walk along the Coal Train track at sunset, and came back to a warm and cosy fireside where we could snuggle up and play boardgames. Perfect for a romantic couples escape, or a quiet family getaway. We would love to come again!

Veronica's place is an eco delight. My brother and I really enjoyed our stay and wished for another. Night to just stay on the property, cook a homely meal and go for long walks through the bush. If you're after a quintessential Victorian experience complete with a warm fire and chic farm vibes her place is just for you. Thanks for having us!

We had a lovely two-night stay. Quiet and cosy with all the necessities. Communication was great, with Veronica offering helpful insights to the local area and a friendly pup who'd pop by to say 'hello'.
