Budget accomodation, really small room (not even space to put your luggage). Not the cleanest also, but cheap

This place is basic but what do you expect for the price but it has a fan, mossie net and clean bathroom. It is a great way to experience Batti, very close to everything. The host's daughter is delightful and speaks English very well. The breakfast we had was brilliant, very fresh sambol and pancakes, and we wish we had opted for the dinner since the food was so great.

The Room is close to the waterfront, near the market, the fort etc so you really can explore the place by walking. The room we choosed was small but we had everything we needed. Its a bit to small to really hang out but for a short stay its okay. Prya, the girl of the family is very kind and the food we had was fantastic.

We loved it. A real local experience with a kind and hospitable family. The room was nice and comfortable. The 'boxed' mosquito net was luxurious for tall people. We had a very delicious dinner with lots of refills. Walkable from the bus station, train station and local beach (20-30 min depending on speed). The family spoke good English and went out of their way to make us feel at home. We would have liked to stay longer, so we highly recommend this homestay.

We really enjoyed our stay at Neverbeen's. Basic clean room with fan and located in the centre of Batticaloa. Dinner and breakfast every morning with the lovely daughter made our stay unforgettable! Authentic homestay :)

When I arrived, Priya showed me the city and let me try the homemade pittu. I enjoyed my stay at this place and would recommend staying here.

This was unfortunately not an ideal experience for us. The family who are living at the property seem very nice but don't really speak English, making communication very difficult. The room is very small and did get quite hot overnight with only a ceiling fan for air circulation. We knew it would be basic, and have stayed in basic accommodation all over Sri Lanka, but I was shocked to find that there was no wifi. Now looking back at the listing I can see that wifi isn't included under 'amenities' but it would be helpful if that were made clear in the actual listing. Location of the house is good, close to a nice cafe and the lake. We only stayed here for one night and I'm glad we didn't need longer. Getting advice and recommendations from the caretaker of what to do in Batticaloa would have been very difficult. Contact with the Neverbeen team was good, they provided very thorough information.

Neverbeen User Profile

Neverbeen offers a wide variety of rare homes off the beaten track, from fisherman's huts and tree houses to heritage homes and tea estates. Our team hand-picks and visits every home and meet all hosts to make ensure guests have a positively memorable stay in places they've never been.

We provide travellers and home owners in challenging locations with access to one another, by offering communication services, online marketing services and tourism training, so that locals can make a living off their home and travellers can get to stay in places they have never been.

As such, Neverbeen works for a world in which everyone has the chance to earn income by renting out their home, regardless of language, internet access and tourism experience.

In Sri Lanka, Dishan manages our growing group of homes in cooperation with our scouts, while Rohan creates listings and provides service. In Amsterdam, Marten works out international growth plans. Our team of in-house programmers is constantly developing the platform itself and Ernst & Young does our finances.

The first country we're active in is Sri Lanka, a beautiful country with many undiscovered places to stay. Due to it recently having opened up to tourism after decades of conflict, it is a great place to start and pilot the Neverbeen concept. We plan to expand to ten countries before the end of 2017.
