Enjoy the fabulous Smoky Mountains in your own luxury cabin on 3 acres of private ridge top! Quiet & secluded, you can enjoy the beautiful views and outdoors in peace. Pamper yourselves in our new outdoor cedar soaking tub, outdoor shower, 2 decks & fire-pit areas, with lots of warm & cozy space inside and stunning mountain & forest views outside. Stay connected (if you want!) with WiFi, Direct TV & cell phone reception (AT&T & Verizon).
Everything provided for a romantic get-away, Guaranteed!
The cabin has been designed for a romantic break away from the world and is lovely and quiet at the end of a private road with no immediate neighbors or passing traffic. You can spend the whole time outside and not be overlooked!
The outside has several decks with tables and chairs to sit and relax while enjoying the views and wildlife, and the main outdoor area has a fire pit (with plenty of firewood provided) that overlooks the long range views of the southern Appalachian mountains. Sharing the same stunning view is our new wood fired Japanese Ofuro outdoor soaking tub which is a wonderful relaxing (and romantic!) way to enjoy the outdoors and sunsets, especially with your favorite drink or glass of wine. It is a cedar wood oval tub (for 2) and is heated by a wood burning stainless steel water stove.
The cabin interior is classy and spacious (1100 sq ft) with lots of living space inside and out; and it is situated on 3 acres of private ridgetop woodland, right next to Forest Service land. It is reached by driving just 900 yards along a dirt gravel road that ends at the top of the ridge, and is 18 miles from the town of Murphy.
Perfect for couples, photographers, honeymooners, star gazers, writers, nature lovers and wildlife watchers - but bring your food with you so you can enjoy the mountains without having to drive into town everyday for supplies (average drive takes 30 mins into Murphy).
Loads of interesting and fun trips and activities nearby, Murphy is centrally located with towns like Chatanooga, Hiawassee, Franklin, Blue Ridge, Hayesville, Blairsville, the Nantahala River Rapids, and even Atlanta and Asheville all within a 2 hour drive.
The cabin is not a typical vacation log cabin (not a bear to be seen! ;-), and not in a gated community. Over the last few years we have remodeled, added lots of wood and stone, and created fabulous outdoor spaces - all to make a lovely romantic hideaway home in the mountains. So visit soon and enjoy this unique and beautiful place!
The cabin is our 2nd home (and our favorite place!) and we have it fitted out for our own use as well as for friends and family. So there are lots of personal extras like towels and toiletries, and the kitchen (microwave, cooktop and separate countertop small oven) is stocked with loads of cooking and pantry items. Also plenty of puzzles, fishing rods, walking sticks, local info books, games, movies, CDs & DVDs etc. I know you will find everything you might need and please feel free to use whatever is there. Because of the remote mountain location this place is really only suitable for adults. And even though the cabin is in a private and remote area, we are connected to the modern world. It is just 2 minutes from the main road and 30 minutes drive into Murphy (which has a Saturday farmers' market, movie theater, antique shops, great bars, cafes and restaurants, and even a Harrah's Casino!). In the cabin there is a Samsung 36" flatscreen TV (with Direct TV channels & HDMI port) with DVR & DVD, an ipod and CD player, and 24hr internet access through satellite connection (wireless WiFi - but no streaming or downloading movies). Of course, if you are looking for a total disconnect from modern life, no problem! Just let us know and we will remove them for you to enjoy a total 'screen & electronic free' vacation.
There is no landline telephone connected at the cabin but cell phones will work - but only some - we use AT&T (and Verizon) and these always get reception (by the window or outside). But don't worry if you don't use AT&T or Verizon - we can provide an android AT&T pay as you go cell phone (upon request) for your use if needed. Yes - we have thought of everything! :-)
Our new cedar outdoor soaking tub is NOT a typical jacuzzi hot tub. It is an oval cedar wood soaking tub (for 2) and is heated by a wood fired water stove and is situated on a platform away from the cabin overlooking the southern mountain ranges. It is not heated by electricity and therefore is not ready with the flick of an on/off switch. You can check out cedartubs online for more examples and details.
Seasoned cut wood to heat the stove is supplied and the tub is emptied and then refilled with clean fresh water for every booking. There is no filter or circulation system as we try to be eco-friendly wherever possible, so we use no electricity, or chemicals, for operating this tub. In order to keep the cedar wood in good shape - it is essential that no cleaning products (shampoo, soap or bleach) are used whilst using the tub. It is not a bathtub.
It takes approx 1hr 45 mins to heat the tub to over 94degrees and the wood fired stove has to be tended during this time.
It is a wonderful experience and very peaceful, with no noisy motors or jets to disturb the lovely forest and woodland environment. But it does take more effort than your average jacuzzi hot tub operated by electricity.
We are happy to do this for you (as we want you to enjoy your vacation and not be tied down to prep time!) and the tub will be prepared and ready to enjoy on check-in day and at a 2nd time of your choosing. After that there will be a small charge for preparation heat-up. Ask for more info if interested.
The kitchen is fully fitted with loads of plates, glasses, cookware and there is a large french door fridge/freezer, toaster & coffee maker, 2 ring electric cooktop, a new countertop oven (large enough for a chicken, pizza, roasting tray of vegetables etc.), a large microwave, and an outdoor grill room with electric griddle and gas barbecue grill, BUT NO traditional 4 burner STOVE TOP/WALL OVEN. And there is a washing machine for clothes - but no dryer.
Interaction with guests
This cabin and location is perfect for that romantic break and offers you complete privacy - so if you are looking for interaction with hosts, neighbors or locals this is not the place - but we are always available nearby or via telephone/email for advice or info on local places to go. Contact details are listed in the Cabin Guidebook available in the cabin.
Other things to note
We have created a true mountain top haven with lots of places to relax, sit and entertain outside the cabin, and the views are superb on all sides. Morning sunrises, evening sunsets, and moonlight and meteor showers at night make the place just fabulous at all times.
But I would be remiss not to mention that care must be taken, especially at certain times of the year (summer months especially). We have loads of open, level, cleared space around the cabin which can be enjoyed to relax in, but if you walk or hike through the nearby woods, there are the usual wildlife and insect issues (occasional ticks, chiggers and sometimes snakes) normally associated with all forests and remote mountain trails.
The cabin is situated on the top of a ridge and there are small streams along the edge of the property and nearby. And several waterfalls are within a 1 hour drive. Our drinking water is supplied from our own private well (and it tastes delicious) and we try to be as eco friendly as possible by using no chemicals outside and only septic tank friendly toilet paper (supplied of course!) inside, and we would ask you to do the same. And we provide a green recycling bin inside for plastics, glass and cans.
We enjoy feeding the wildlife and birds and regularly place sunflower seed outside - which attracts an amazing variety of birds, and chipmunks and squirrels of course. And then sometimes in the evening we have opossum, rabbits, raccoons and grey foxes who turn up to eat up any left over seed from the day visitors. All very entertaining!
As with any woodland area you must take extra care with any outdoor fires and only use the firewood we provide for the wood-fired cedar hot tub, the deck cast iron chiminea and outdoor fire pit.
No candle burning permitted inside or outside the cabin.
We would request that there is absolutely no smoking/vaping inside the cabin.
No additional guests, or visitors, except those originally booked (max 2).
This remote mountain location is NOT suitable for children.
There is also the possibility of the occasional raccoon, opossum and even bear in the area so no food or garbage to be left outside.
If you have a small pet that you would like to bring - I will be happy to discuss the possibility - but please ask first.
Although hunting in Cherokee County is permitted during the season, we absolutely do not allow guns, bows or any hunting on the property. So please enjoy the peace and quiet and especially the wildlife - there are white tailed deer, bobcats, turkeys, raccoons, squirrels, chipmunks, owls, rabbits, turtles, flying squirrels, wild boar, hawks, snakes, lizards, and a huge variety of native and visiting birds that are in the local area.
After living and working in Europe for over 30 years, my husband John and I have returned to western North Carolina and adore living in the mountains. We have a lovely home in Asheville, but our real escape is when we get away to our favorite cabin home in Unaka, near Murphy. It is so beautiful and peaceful, we breathe a sigh of relief as we take it all in - the stunning views, abundant nature and clean water & air - We just love it!
We know you will love it too - so come and visit soon - the mountains are calling!
