The space

Live like a local in beautiful small, historic, medieval French village. House has fully equipped kitchen, dining/living room, TV, WiFi, minute's walk from village square, restaurants, bakeries. Very close to prehistoric caves, castles, vineyards. For a wonderful guide to Monpazier's uniqueness visit our friend Michael's guide to Monpazier (Website hidden by Airbnb)

The house was built in early 14th century but has every modern convenience. Beautiful original stonework. There is no garden or outdoor space but the village is surrounded by fields, picnic spaces, a Boules pit, lovely walks.

The whole house is available to guests, no other guests or residents. Completely private.

There is a house manager nearby available at all times. In an emergency the house manager is available to help. Her number will be provided to guests. A manual with house information, like operating washer and dryer, heating, TV etc and suggestions for excursions and local attractions is provided to guests.

Monpazier is a Bastide (fortified) town built in the 13th Century during the 100 Years War against England. It still has the original village layout, beautiful architecture, a large square where there is a lively Thursday market, cafes, excellent restaurants, delicious local cuisine. Canoe on the Dordogne River, walk in the countryside, enjoy the medieval history (you'll be living in it!) explore the troglodyte habitations in nearby cliffs, visit castles and vineyards. Check out (Website hidden by Airbnb) for a personal web guide.

Monpazier is accessed by car, or taxi, and you will need a car to explore the local area. Cars can be rented from e.g. Bergerac airport or station, 40 minutes drive, or Bordeaux, 21/2 hours drive, Toulouse 21/2 hours drive.

If you are flying into Lyon try renting a car and driving slowly across France to Monpazier. Highly recommended, just magic.

The village itself is small and you can walk around with ease.

The house is not suitable for young children or people with a disability because there are stairs.

Shopping - village shops can provide everything you need.

My daughter and I had a lovely few days in Laraine's mediaeval house, which was just 10 metres from the main square and centre of Monpazier. The house is tall, skinny and very quaint, with light entering just from the front of the building. It was well kitted out with everythin…
