The Nest lodge is a bright, contemporary, open-plan design
Restored using local limestone, reclaimed blue banger slates - keeping the traditional design of the old cow barn

The Nest lodge is located in the courtyard with your own private entrance and parking at the side of the lodge, overlooking the green fields of Athenry & the unique Galway stone walls.

Double height living room/kitchen downstairs with cosy bedroom in the loft ( Max: height 5ft8"). Dressing room and bathroom downstairs.

All toiletries and cleaning products used are organic. Sustainability is very important

Visit our organic farm with John, where you will meet pedigree Shorthorn cows & calves and learn about the past farming tradition. ( This needs to be pre-booked before arrival limited times)

We are located halfway between Connemara & the Cliffs of Moher, which means you can stay with us and get to discover the best of the West of Ireland

Athenry town is 12 minutes away with trains running regularly to Galway city, Dublin & Limerick.

The Michelin starred Lignum restaurant less than 10 minutes from the lodge.

Getting Around & Transportation
To fully explore the best of the West of Ireland, we recommend having a car.
However, if you don’t have one, we can arrange to pick you up from Athenry Station by our local taxi driver Terry.

Regular trains run from Athenry to Galway & Dublin, offering easy access to day trips to the Aran Islands, Connemara, and the Cliffs of Moher, as well as Galway City.

Shannon Airport – Less than 1 hour drive.

Dublin Airport – Less than 2 hours.

Galway City – 20 minutes to the outskirts.

Nearest Beach – Kinvara 30 minutes

Loughrea Blue Flag Lake – 12 minutes.

Day 2
Enjoy fine dining at the award-winning restaurant Lignum located 5 minutes by car from the cottage. Or taste more traditional Irish food at Maggie Mays, a pub/ restaurant renowned for its steak, located in our local, and lovely town, Loughrea, which also hosts two excellent supermarkets; Supervalu.
Relax and enjoy Irish whiskey and great Guinness at Mary Ward's, a Traditional Irish Thatched located 2.5 miles away in the local village of Kiltullagh,

Day 3
In less than a 25-minute drive, experience the best of Irish culture, artistry, food, and great nightlife and live music in the bohemian and cosmopolitan city of Galway, Ireland's harbour city lying on the West Coast.

Day 4
En route to the breathtaking Cliffs of Moher, take in the spectacular views of the Burren national park. The Burren is a karst landscape of bedrock incorporating a vast cracked pavement of glacial-era limestone, with cliffs and caves, fossils, rock formations, and archaeological sites. On the way back enjoy a satisfying seafood chowder at Linnane's Lobster Bar in New Quay, an Irish pub/restaurant renowned for its fresh seafood.

Day 5
Experience and discover the wild and beautiful landscape of Connemara, which hosts many trails of varying levels, including Diamond hill, a hike that provides a spectacular birds-eye view of the Atlantic and of the Connemara landscape.
