NHS staff see below for details. Eider cottage is a listed weavers cottage tucked away behind the church in the very centre of this quaint village. Retaining many original features including mullion stone Windows, kitchen floor, steps, beams, floorboards and inglenook. It has a private secluded hot tub for an additional cost. Exclusive use of the owners private heated indoor swimming pool, spa bath and sauna is also available for an additional charge, subject to availability.

The space
This three storey listed weavers cottage retains many of the original features including mullion windows, a wonderful stone inglenook fireplace, York stone flagged floor in the kitchen and stone steps. It has views over the village and up to the surrounding countryside and moors of the Peak District national park. With Holme Moss viewpoint visible from the hot tub (optional charges apply see below).

The master bedroom has a sumptuous super king size bed, but no space for storage, only a chair and two bedside tables, the wardrobe and the chest of drawers and dressing table are on the landing.

The double bedroom is very tight with only room for the bed, one bedside table and a plant stand with a bedside light on it, there is only a very narrow gap to get around the bed to the far side under the window.

When the weather is good the garden has two terraces with a table and chairs to take advantage of the view and an outside oven and BBQ on request for a small additional cost, this must be requested in advance.

The very large kitchen is equipped with a range cooker, retro fridge freezer, dishwasher, washer, microwave, toaster and kettle. There is a large kitchen table and chairs. It has a traditional Belfast sink and a solid oak work surface - they are old so they are not perfect, but spotlessly clean and we think add character.

The sitting room has a log burning stove, comfortable classic sofa, two Ekorness Stressless leather chairs and a smart TV and Blu-Ray DVD player.

The large bathroom has a vintage suite with a deep roll top bath and a rain shower within a separate cubicle.

There is a large storage/drying room off the kitchen suitable for walking boots, cycles and prams.

Swimming pool and swimspa

The indoor swimming pool and outdoor swimspa are located at the owner’s property which is approximately 7 miles from Holmfirth.

The private indoor pool is in a converted barn and has views out over the owner’s field to the Peak District moors beyond. The pool is heated between 30 to 32 degrees Celsius. It is 8mx5m (26’3”x16’5”) and has a 2m deep end.

The outdoor swimspa – which is a large hot tub with a separate swimming area – has panoramic views out to the Peak District.

Guests can book the pool for their exclusive use for 75-minutes for the discounted rate of £10 pp (min charge £45) if they are using the hot tub at their property. Without the hot tub it is a minimum charge of £55 on weekdays and £60 on weekends. The outdoor swimspa costs £45 for 75-minutes.

Guests must arrive ‘beach ready’. These prices are subject to review in line with changing COVID-19 cleaning protocols.

In the swimming pool room there is an indoor spa bath. In the adjacent changing room there is also a sauna - if guests hire the pool, both are also available for £5 and £10 respectively if the swimming pool is booked.

There are separate house rules for the swimming pool.

Use of the pool is subject to availability. Please book early to avoid disappointment. To do so send an Airbnb message with your preferred time/s and dates. We need at least 48 hours’ notice for each session.

Guest access
Guests will have the whole cottage and garden for their exclusive use. Use of the hot tub is optional and is subject to availability, it needs to be requested on booking. (see below for additional charges). Although, the cottage is only suitable for people who have good mobility, as a three storey listed cottage it still retains lots of stone steps. Likewise the walking route to the cottage from the village is up cobbles and steps. The road to it is very steep and narrow. Pets are welcome by prior agreement and at an additional charge (please enquire before you book) and will only have access to the lower ground floor where the kitchen and drying room / cycle store are located and the ground floor sitting room.

Other things to note
NHS frontline staff who need to shield vulnerable family members can stay for free during the second coronavirus lockdown subject to government restrictions. Currently this means only if you need to make it your main residence. Please enquire before booking for more details. The hot tub supplement still applies if you wish to use it.

During the winter months (December to February) you will be provided with four hours worth of fuel to get you started with the multi fuel stove. Additional fuel or fuel in other months can also be provided if requested in advance and for an additional charge. Please enquire on booking.

Full names of all guests must be provided to the host on booking.

Use of the hot tub is optional for an additional charge payable on arrival of £100 for short breaks up to 4 nights and £150 for 5 -7 nights. Please enquire for the price for longer stays. Confirmation that you require the hot tub must be received well in advance and is subject to availability.

If only two guests are staying, but require two bedrooms there is an additional charge of £20 to cover the additional laundry, ironing and cleaning costs. Confirmation that two guests require both bedrooms must be received on booking.

Angela will be happy to arrange for your shopping to be delivered if you wish. Quality toiletries, bath sheets, linen will be provided for adults, but cannot be taken outside. Don't forget to bring your own towels, robes, flip-flops and swimming things if you are using the hot tub.

Likewise, please enquire if the cottage looks booked, as we are currently blocking days to give time for turning around four properties and hospital appointments, but we will be flexible and may be able to accommodate you with some flexibility about arrival or leaving times. Eider cottage can be booked with any of its sister properties, Mallard, Shelduck or Teal.

Pets

We are pet friendly, but charge a £30 supplement for each pet and we also ask that owners:
Please keep pets off the furniture
Please exercise pets outside the garden
Please remove pet hairs from the carpets and furniture before you leave (there is a vacuum cleaner for you to use)
Please do not leave pets unattended in the property
Please do not let pets upstairs or in the bedrooms
Please do not let pets in the hot tub

There are lots of pubs and restaurants in Holmfirth that are pet friendly, including one of our favourites.

If you wish to go ahead with booking you can pay for your pets on arrival, rather than on booking.

A £50 refundable cash deposit is payable on arrival, if the cottage is treated with respect and there is no damage this will be returned directly into your bank account seven days after check-out.

Swimming pool

Closed from Thursday 5 November until 2 December due to COVID-19 second lockdown restrictions.

There is also the option to use the owners private indoor swimming pool. The pool is heated to a minimum of between 30-32 degrees Celsius. It is 8mx5m and has a 2m deep end and is currently 1.2m in the shallow end (April 2019).

The swimming pool is located in a converted barn and has views out over the owners field to the Peak District moors beyond.

In the swimming pool room there is also an indoor spa bath. In the adjacent changing room there is also a sauna - both are also available for £10 and £10 respectively during a 75 minute session booked in the swimming pool.

Guests of Your Yorkshire Time can book the pool for their exclusive use for 75 minutes from £45 for two guests, please enquire for the price for longer or for more guests.

The swimming pool is situated at your hosts own home, 8 miles south of Holmfirth. The drive from Holmfirth to the swimming pool provides spectacular views of the Peak District.

There are separate house rules for the swimming pool. Use of the pool is subject to availability. Please book early to avoid disappointment. To do so send an Airbnb message with your preferred time/s.

If your stay is dependent on the availability of the swimming pool, please do not book until you have checked if it is available on the days and times that you want.

Location

Holmfirth, England, United Kingdom

Holmfirth is a quirky village, as wonderfully showcased in the TV series Last of the Summer Wine. It is ideal for hikers and cyclists, but also for people who want to wander its quaint streets and enjoy the market and numerous shops, pubs and restaurants and other attractions.

There is also a live music venue - the Picturedrome. The centre of the village is a two minute walk down steep steps and cobbles from the cottage. The walks can be accessed right from the door. Holme Moss, the steepest climb on the Yorkshire section of the Tour de France is a short cyle ride away. The river running through the village always has lots of ducks to feed and there is the famous annual Holmfirth Duck race and many annual festivals including the Festival of Folk, Arts Festival, the Food and Drink Festival and several beer festivals.

I have spent the last four years hosting guests in one of our four holiday properties in Holmfirth at the same time as caring for my mother, who sadly is no longer with us. Prior to that I spent over 30 years working full-time and as a volunteer in the corporate and voluntary sectors, most recently as Chief Executive of a national charity and voluntary Chair of a local children's hospice. I decided to go part-time in 2015 to spend more time caring for my Mother following the death of my Father. My husband and I bought four properties in Holmfirth where I was born and brought up, with the intention of establishing a holiday cottage business - so Your Yorkshire Time - Holmfirth Hot-Tub Heaven was born. We welcomed our first guests in 2016. All the properties are quirky period properties with original features and we hope the perfect venues for your time together, so if you're feeling in need of recuperation and pampering come and relax with us. The properties proved to be so popular that they soon become a full-time job! But one that I was able to do initially with my Mother and although it is much harder physically than anything that I have done before, helping me gave my Mum a real purpose in life again. Sadly she became very ill in 2018 and not only was she unable to help, but I needed to spend more time supporting her. But the positive side of this is that we have been able to provide work for local people who now do all the cottage cleaning and laundry for us. I now concentrate on everything else, most importantly and most enjoyably meeting our guests and making sure that they have a wonderful holiday. My motto in life is I'll sleep when I'm dead!
