Our secluded mountain hamlet, (alt. 3000ft) is set in 3 acres of forest and wild flower meadows and provides a lovely environment to rest, recuperate and plan cultural and outdoor activities. Others come simply to drink in the stillness and the sun.

The space

Our self catering cottage (approx. 65 sq mtrs) is set in the hamlet of Cumminges, occupied by ourselves and our guests, on the side of a mountain called le Bout de Touron. It sleeps 4 very comfortably. There is ample private parking, and a private space for our guests with two sun terraces looking out over the rooves onto Mont Fourcat, BBQ equipment, and garden furniture .
The different seasons bring forth a wide variety of rare flowers, fauna, and butterflies whilst deer, pheasants and wild sanglier are regular users of our tracks (no Brown bears yet!). Birds of prey are ever present.

Guest access

Our guests have the whole of the cottage and the outside grassed private area. There is forest below and above the hamlet.

Interaction with guests

We live permanently in the hamlet with our dog and cat. Our children, now 20 and 25 years old, are studying away but return frequently. Children are most welcome, and we can offer lots of ideas for interesting excursions. We are very available to assist in any way we can to make your stay memorable and interesting.

Other things to note

We can also provide breakfasts and evening meals.
There are a couple of bikes available for guests to use.
We can also provide snow shoes.
There is a caution deposit of 150 euros payable on arrival.

We have always found our guests to be respectful both of the environment and of other people. The hamlet has an extremely low carbon footprint . Drinking water comes from a mountain spring, our renewable forest provides all the fuel for heating, and newly installed solar panels provide our electricity. We recycle and compost and would be delighted if guests would participate in this.
We can accept animals but only by prior arrangement (there are sheep in the surrounding meadows). There is a charge of 3 euros per night per dog.
No smoking in the cottage. We would be grateful if smokers would only smoke outside the cottage.
Wood for the stove available at 60 euros a cubic metre (approx. 15 euros for a week's evening burning)

Such a lovely cottage! Cumminges is idyllic and rustic; the archetypical bucolic getaway. It was a little hard to find at first, but once you're used to the drive you'll appreciate the spectacular views and wild animal sightings on your way home every night. Starry skies and nothing but the sound of cowbells to wake you up. Plus Mary gave us homemade jam! Can't ask for better hosting than that. I'll think of Cumminges every time I have my breakfast now

The cabin was exactly what we were looking for after spending a few weeks in large cities. Beautiful walks minutes from the house. Peter is very knowledgeable about the area and can give plenty of recommendations.

Peter was a great host and we had a wonderful few days at his place in the hills above Foix. Peter has done a great job renovating the place as can be seen in the photos and it was very well equipped for everything we needed plus very dog-friendly. The location is wonderful if you like the quiet nature with clean, fresh mountain air. Peter was very flexible for our checkin and departure and the communication was excellent. With the low-lying cloud while we were there, we didn't get to enjoy the panoramas and outdoors as much this time but did some great cycling in the area. We would be happy to recommend Peter's place to other travelers.

Beautiful restful haven in the mountains. Peter and Mary have created an authentic mountain getaway. They are great hosts with open hearts and information to share on the beautiful Ariege. The cottage is comfortable and artistic with lovely views over the Pyrenees foothills. We enjoyed our 6 nights here and hope to return one day. Thank you Peter and Mary, we highly recommend your unique place.

The cottage is fantastic, it is only a 15 minute drive from the very lovely town of Foix, which has lots of interesting shops as well as the essential supermarkets. Despite this convenience it feels quite remote. We visited in early April 2017, and were treated to gorgeous sunrises over snow capped mountains. The cottage is a sun trap in the morning, and both bedrooms and the living area all have great views and catch the morning light. Peter was kind enough to come and light the fire early in the evening, so by the time we got back it was all very warm and cosy. Can't recommend highly enough.

This is our second stay at Peter's cabin, and it was equally as relaxing as the first! It is very secluded, and while technically attached to Peter's home, you'd never know it. It doesn't share any walls, has a separate parking and entrance area and allows for complete privacy. I was delighted this year to have explored the mountain (at the cabin's doorstep)- finding trails, friendly horseback riding neighbors, farm animals, and more birds and wildlife than I've seen in a long time. Already lookingt forward to my next years stay. Thanks Peter!

Love to travel, an alpinist for 50 years, a lot calmer now, easy walking, biking and sea canoeing with my wife Mary. Climbed in most mountain ranges in Europe. Enjoy Morocco. Follow politics and economics.

J'aime voyager en Europe, et Maroc. Un vieux alpinist, maintenant un peu plus tranquil, promenades, kayak de mer, et le vélo, toutes aux niveaux facile! Intéressé en politiques et economique.
