Glamping at Mussel Beach Wilderness Campground, on the West Coast of Vancouver Island is off grid camping in style. Beachcomber, 1 of 5 wall tents, has a Queen bed with luxury bedding, a table & chairs, futon couch, wood stove, covered porch & outdoor kitchen with all the amenities. All tents are beach front with fantastic ocean views and minutes to the out houses and gravity fed out door showers. After a 30 minute slow drive down a logging road you arrive to do some serious chillaxing.

The space

The large, deluxe canvas tent is 14' x 16', nice and roomy for two adults. The futon couch converts to a double bed if extra space is needed. There is an outdoor, covered porch, covered kitchen and private beach front access. The cedar outhouse and heated showers are steps away and very clean. More photos on our website sodamnluckyvacations.

Guest access

Stardust is on it's own private site with an ocean view of Barkley Sound. There is a double hammock and a fire pit on site, or if you prefer have a beach fire and watch the night sky. On your arrival you will have a 18 L bottle of drinking water, a 16 L jug of non potable water, ice packs in your cooler and your first nights fire wood for your stove. After that you can purchase drinking water, ice & firewood at reasonable prices.

Interaction with guests

We spend our summers at Mussel Beach, so can help with anything you may need. Lori and Curtis manage Mussel Beach Wilderness Campground, so they are also available.

Other things to note

The gravel road to Mussel Beach is approximately 30 minutes. It can be a rough road, depending on time of year and weather, just GO SLOW and you will have no problems. Mussel Beach is Wilderness, off the grid, no power. We do, however, get good cell service due to the Coast Guard tower near by. Note that the Mussel Beach gate is closed between 10pm and 7am. Message us if you need to make arrangements to get in at this time.

This was the perfect spot for a relaxing, oceanfront getaway! We arrived later than planned on a dark, rainy evening. Danielle had a warm fire going, and the candles lit which was an amazing welcome!

We always love when people arrive on a warm sunny night, but arriving with the tent cozy and warm is lovely too.

A great off the grid stay. Beds were comfortable. Tent was very clean and the kitchen was well stocked. Pit toilets were close by.

How amazing to see the ocean as you look out the doorway from your tent as you lay in a cozy warm bed! Our weather was lovely and warm with no fog to impair our views. We saw the bears on the beach and explored the tidal pools. The kitchen had everything we needed- we cooked up fresh salmon and scallops purchased at Fishful Thinking in Ucluelet, along with several other meals. The outdoor showers are warm, clean, and a lovely experience. Coffee on the beach and fires there each evening! Just awesome! You worry that the advertising won't match up to the reality but in this case they do and more! The road in - well...just take your time. It's pretty rough but totally passable. We did it in a Nissan Micra!

Mark was an incredibly warm and welcoming host after a long journey to the camp. We stayed in the Stardust glamper which exemplified rustic elegance with camp safe candles, a purposefully appointed cucina rustica, comfy camp chairs to watch the eagles feast on salmon and binoculars for spying on distant foraging bears on the beach. Beds were warm and cozy after Mark taught us how and when to light the woodstove that staved off a cool damp ocean breeze while we slept with only a canvas between us and billions of stars. We will hope to return before the close of the season. Brigette and Mai

The tent was awesome and equipped with everything you need. The private entrance to the beach was great for exploring and an evening campfire. Wish we could have stayed longer! The gravel road into the site can feel a bit slow and long, but we did see a bear on the road the morning we left so it makes it all worthwhile!
