The space

The studio apartment is on the first floor of a private building adjacent to our house. Upstairs from the apartment there is a large open space which can be used for yoga, meditation, dance, stretching, etc.

The space provides a perfect romantic getaway for 2 but can comfortably accommodate 3 adults or a small family. (We do charge a fee for extra adults after 2 BUT not for babies/young children traveling with their own bedding.) We have a new queen bed always made up with freshly washed linens. There is a small couch which pulls out into a single bed and linens can be provided for that as well. Air mattresses can also be available upon request.

There is a kitchenette with a sink, stove, full-size refrigerator/freezer, toaster, microwave, coffee machine and electric water heater.. We provide coffee and a variety of teas, as well as honey, sugar, and milk or cream. The cabinets are stocked with utensils, plates, bowls, glasses and mugs, wine opener, and salt and pepper. The tap water is excellent for drinking. (If you need anything else, please ask!)

The bathroom is quite spacious. We provide clean towels and fresh soap. There is also a hair dryer.

The room and bathroom are handicap accessible with about a one inch rise at the door and a level, gravel path to the door. Price includes 9% Vermont Rooms Tax.

Guest access

Guests are encouraged to explore our property, including the network of trails (probably about 1/2 mile, total) that winds through the woods and down to a beaver pond (with active beaver!).

We welcome guests to visit the ducks and horses inside the barn or outside in the pasture. (Bring some lettuce to feed the ducks- they go crazy for it!, but please do not feed the horses.)

Guests staying several nights are welcome to do a load of laundry or two inside our house.

Interaction with guests

We hope our guests feel comfortable stopping by to say hello at any time, if they would like. We have met so many interesting people this way! We also understand the desire for privacy and so we try not to be intrusive in any way.

The neighbourhood

The property is set off of a quiet country road, about 10 min from both downtown Richmond and downtown Hinesburg, two quintessential small Vermont towns, proximate to several outdoor adventure attractions and only a 25 min drive from Burlington, a vibrant college town set on the shores of Lake Champlain.

We are a 5 minute drive to Sleepy Hollow Ski and Bike Center, a great place for cross country skiing and snow shoeing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer.

We are 20 min from Bolton Valley Ski area and about 45 min from Stowe, Sugarbush, and Smuggler's Notch.

In warmer months, there are endless country roads on which to bike and run and you can plan on cooling off with a dip in Lake Iroquois, a beautiful boating and swimming lake with a small beach only a few miles from our home. We can also recommend some amazing swim holes which would make great biking or driving destinations.

We are about 30 min to the Ben and Jerry's factory and other great spots in Central VT.

Getting around

There is no public transportation option. Biking in the warmer months is a good way to get to nearby towns.

Other things to note

We're a young and welcoming couple, with a strong love for Vermont. We purchased this place with the intention of preserving it as a homestead and creating a space that could be enjoyed by people of all different ages.

Great spot if you're looking for a taste of rural Vermont, yet it's close to the amenities of the small town of Richmond and outdoor adventures are a skip away.

I absolutely loved my stay here! It was clean and had everything I could possibly need and more. It was nice and quiet, perfect for having to work on a research paper. The communication was perfect, and Mike gave some great recommendations for local food. Although I didn't get to meet him or his family this time, I look forward to doing so on my next visit. I did meet a horse and the ducks though, and they were very welcoming

I highly recommend staying at this beautiful space in Richmond. Our hosts were incredibly kind and welcoming, and the space has everything you might need while staying/traveling around Vermont. Downtown Burlington is a short 20-25 minute drive, and there are many things to do in the surrounding area. The landscape surrounding the property is beautifully serene and worth the trip alone. The host is very responsive and the space exceeded my expectations.

So very comfortable and homey. Off the beaten path, but close enough to town. We were so frustrated in staying in pricey mediocre hotels when visiting daughter at UVM and decided to look into airbnbs. We could not have been more satisfied with Mike and Rachel's beautiful studio. The house, the property and the hosts are all awesome! Highly recommend!

Mike, Rachel and River are three persons I wish you to meet once upon a day. They are incredibly generous. The studio is much better that you can imagine, surrounded by nature, all furnished, cosy. The room upstairs is absolutely perfect to practice yoga or meditation or to play with children and dance. We enjoy our stay there. The horse and the ducks, pines and maple trees, the sweetness of this Vermont's life and family was truly best memories of my New England's two-weeks-road trip.

This was a perfect place for enjoying the nature and adventuring towns in Vermont! Mike, Rachel and their lovely son River were very nice to us and very responsive. They also make good honey! We bought one jar of it when we checked-out and tried when we got back home. It is the must-buy in Vermont I have to say!! I never tried unfiltered honey before and it was very flavoursome. My boyfriend had had unfiltered honey before so he convinced me to buy this with a high expectation. And he loves this honey a lot! I think he's going to have every breakfast with this honey. Hehe One complain about this place would be.. it was very cold! It was still snowy and cold when we went there (07/Apr/17 -10/Apr/17) and since the place was located in a mountain (or a bit higher than others) it was bit more colder. Inside of the studio, there is a heater but I do recommend you to bring good warm pyjamas and slippers. However, luckily there were bunch of tea and coffee we could drink. So they warmed us up very well. The studio was perfect for 2 guests. Summer has almost come, so I think it will be a perfect place to indulge all the nature in Vermont!
