Located on a quiet country road, this renovated barn is close to Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob, the Dolly Sods, etc. Share the area with goats, chickens, and a peacock! The barn has its own bathroom with hot water, a small cooking area (including dishes/cookware), AC/Heater, 1 Queen bed, TV with Netflix, and WiFi. Linens & towels included. Expect to be woken by the rooster!
*Please advise if you will have pets ($10 fee per pet per night, pay on arrival)

The space
**COVID-19 Update- I am accepting guests at this time. Most places in the area have reopened, though some restaurants and shops still remain closed. Please be considerate when dining out and shopping in stores, by wearing a mask, washing your hands regularly and practicing social distancing. As for cleaning the barn, I have been taking extra measures to wipe down all "high touch" areas with disinfectant, all blankets and linens get washed between each stay, and the barn is given a more thorough than normal clean after each stay. I also allow a full 24 hours between each booking for cleaning/airing out.
Detailed Listing Description:

This quaint barn was renovated in 2013, and is located in my yard, a short distance from the main house. It has its own private bathroom and a small kitchen area for basic cooking. There is a small refrigerator, hot plate, toaster oven, kettle and coffee maker. All pots, pans, dishes, etc also included. There is not a proper oven for baking. The water is not only drinkable, but probably better tasting than most bottled water (the well is spring-fed!)

Located just 5 minutes from Seneca Rocks, WV on a quiet country road, it's the perfect location for an escape from the real world. If you're looking to get in touch with nature, and love animals, you will love staying in the barn!

There is no cell phone service in the area, but free Wifi reaches the barn. There is also a TV with DVD player/Netflix, but no cable TV. There is a queen bed and AC in the room. There is also a propane wall heater for colder months. Sheets, blankets, towels, etc are provided.

Please note, this is a true barn. Just two doors down live 2 pygmy goats, chickens, ducks, and a peacock. The birds do roam freely around the yard. There are also 2 cats that live next door, and the peacock often enjoys roosting on the roof, and sometimes starts calling early in the morning. Mating season for the peacock is usually around late June to early July. During this time he can be annoyingly loud, even in the middle of the night. You may also hear some other animal noises in the night... (The cats do not go into the area where you will stay. There is no cat odor and people with cat allergies should not have a problem.)

The barn is situated close to the house, where I live with my husband and our 3 dogs. I am usually around, but not always. There is a charcoal grill and a fire pit in the yard, which you are welcome to use as well. However, you will not have access to the main house.

For a unique experience come stay in the Seneca Rocks Renovated Barn!

**There is no cell phone reception in or around Seneca Rocks.

Guest access
Guests have access to the barn and yard surrounding it. There is also a charcoal grill available to use as well as a fire pit. Charcoal and firewood can be purchased in town, you should not bring wood from home.

Other things to note
*The water in the barn is safe to drink (and delicious!)
**There is no cell phone reception in or around Seneca Rocks.

**Dogs are permitted in the barn for an extra fee ($10 per pet per night) Please be prepared to pay cash once you are here, or if you prefer I can adjust the price through Airbnb. Please advise before your arrival if you will have a pet. I also have dogs who are sometimes loose on the property and I prefer to know when another dog will be entering the yard. Also, please do not plan to leave your dog unattended in the barn unless you have a crate. Your dog must be leashed in the yard (there are chickens and a peacock roaming around who really appreciate this!). When I know a dog is coming my dogs will be in a separate fenced area. (2 out of 3 are friendly, 1 does not get along well with dogs she doesn't know)

** Winter Bookings- Please understand that it may snow during the winter. My road is flat and typically plowed pretty quickly. Seneca Rocks is only 4 miles away, and accessible even when it snows (however some sections of the trail may be slick if icy). Places like Spruce Knob and the Dolly Sods are not plowed and inaccessible at times. Also, the mountains that you must pass to get here (in any direction) can be treacherous in the snow. An all wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended for stays during the winter. Also, you must walk through my yard to get to the barn, there is not a sidewalk or designated path. I do my best to shovel a path when there is a lot of snow, but it is possible you may have to walk through some snow to get to and from the barn (bring boots!) That said, it is actually very beautiful here when it snows, and a unique time to visit! Winter Storm Warnings in the Seneca Rocks area with travel advisories are a valid excuse for cancellations and I will offer a full refund if local weather will not permit you to come.

Location

Seneca Rocks, West Virginia, United States

Seneca Rocks is quite literally in the middle of nowhere. It is a very small town nestled in the mountains of West Virginia. There are many points of interest in the area, but to see these places please expect to do some mountain driving while you are here.

In the town of Seneca Rocks, which is about 4 miles from the house there are 2 stores with souvenirs and limited grocery items. There is a newly opened Subway restaurant, plus a couple local places to eat, but the choices are pretty limited. There are the rocks, with a hiking trail to the top. There is also a swimming hole in the river at the base of the rocks.

The following places are popular among visitors, including driving times from the barn:
Dolly Sods (45 minutes) (great hiking)
Spruce Knob (40 minutes) (highest point in WV, great hiking)
Blackwater Falls (45 minutes) (hiking, point of interest)
Seneca Caverns (15 minutes)
Smoke Hole Caverns (15 minutes)
Davis/Thomas (45 minutes) (the nearest bars/nightlife, and best restaurants are here)
Canaan Valley (25 minutes) (hiking, mountain biking)

I grew up in Michigan, and finally settled down in Seneca Rocks, WV in 2010, after many years of traveling and living abroad. I was initially drawn to Seneca Rocks for rock climbing, but have since retired my harness and climbing shoes. I fell in love with the area for its remoteness, scenic beauty, and local charm. After spending a summer here, I sort of impulsively decided to buy land and build a house. I hired my new friend Chris to build the house, which we did entirely on our own, while living on the property throughout the 18 month process. The property already had the barn on it, which we went on to renovate after the house was finished. A few years later Chris & I got married, and the rest is history! These days I mostly enjoy hiking with the dogs and working on the landscaping of the property, which is a continuous work in progress. Chris is also often working on something in his shop, or messing with his honey bees. We are both very happy to have you!

During your stay
The barn is situated next door to my house. If I'm home I'm happy to answer questions or help with any problems, but I typically leave guests alone, and sometimes don't see them at all. I do feed the animals first thing every morning, so you may run into me then. My husband, Chris, is also happy to answer questions or help with anything if you see him around the property. Also please note, I do not own cell phone (my phone number is a landline). Shocking, I know! But that means I do not receive messages instantly. I try to check my laptop for messages regularly, but there are times when that is not possible. So I apologize if I do not respond immediately.
