Enjoy our cozy alpine mini-chalet - hiker hut/skier shed. Relax in charming décor and great outdoor hang-out spaces. Dogs & children welcome! A wood burning stove keeps you toasty warm. Cook indoors or out. Climb the ladder to the sleeping loft full size bed. Hang out in your own private outdoor rec area with a fire pit, chairs & dining set up. A move-up from camping - bring your food and ice. No electricity/no running H20. Good well water provided. Cots/air mattress available for extra guests.

The space
For winter access, 4-wheel or all wheel drive is recommended -- depending on how recently it has snowed or whether snow is in the forecast. During the winter, parking is near the entrance to the property and guests walk a short distance to the chalet. This cozy converted shed is an off-grid, quaint mini-chalet complete with Swiss fondue pot! It is one-room measuring 10' x 12' with a sleeping loft above. There is NO running water, indoor plumbing or electricity. Battery powered candles and lanterns provide lighting. The mini-chalet is NOT situated in a private setting as there is another bigger cabin very close by that is also an Airbnb rental. However there is a private hang out area with its own fire pit and outdoor dining set up (located a short walk past the outhouse) where you can relax in your own designated space.

The knotty-pine interior mini-chalet is heated by a wood-burning stove that guests operate themselves. We provide wood, cardboard/paper, matches, and lighter fluid. It does not have electricity or running water. There are several battery powered lanterns and battery powered candles plus special lighting throughout the mini-chalet. Guests obtain water from a spigot at our main cabin using a 5-gallon camp style water container. The water is from our deep well. There is a well-equipped kitchenette with a Coleman 2-burner propane stove. There are pots, pans, a tea kettle, French press, Swiss fondue pot with forks and sterno fuel canisters, cooking utensils, cups, bowls, plates, silverware, knives, plastic wine glasses, bottle & can & wine openers. We provide paper towels, dish cloths, and cleaning supplies. We offer a selection of teas and hot chocolate as well as spices/seasonings, salt & pepper, popcorn, sugar and cooking oil.
Guests climb the ladder to get to the sleeping loft which comes furnished with a full-size mattress, pillows, sheets, blankets and comforter. There is space for a third person to sleep on a sleeping pad as well.
If more beds are needed we can provide up to two cots or two twin size air mattresses, plus all of the pillows, blankets and comforters needed.

A convenient and clean portable toilet/porta-potty is just a few steps away from the mini-chalet. Nearby is a short path leading to the private outdoor fire pit area and outdoor dining table and chairs (for 4 people). A round galvanized metal stock tank is used to cover the fire pit and put out the fire.

Play all day in Indian Peaks Wilderness, Brainard Lake Recreation Area, Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Boulder, or any of the dozens of nearby attractions. Then come home to this peaceful getaway where you can relax, cook a meal, build a fire, make smores, drink a glass of wine (or hot chocolate), journal, read, write, paint or just day dream.

This property is a wooded 8.5 acreage just outside Indian Peaks Wilderness and Brainard Lake Recreation Area in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. This property is a 35 minute drive from Boulder and 50 minutes from Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. The property sits at 9,500 feet elevation and is a perfect base camp for snowshoeing and skiing (winter months) or hiking/biking/exploring (summer months). It is located off of Brainard Lake Road. We provide two pairs of snowshoes -- free of charge -- to your guests during their stay.

Guest access
In addition to the outdoor seating and grilling area right outside the door of this little cabin there is a private hang-out area complete with metal fire pit, solar lighting, dining table and four chairs. This is area is just a short distance from the little cabin in a private wooded area specifically designated for this listing only.

Other things to note
There are two other Airbnb rentals on the property. One is a large cabin near the mini-chalet. The other is down the road in a more private location. There is a designated private hangout area for mini-chalet guests to relax by their own fire pit and dine outdoors. We provide two pairs of snowshoes for guest use in the snowy months. Check-out time is 12:00 noon.

I am a semi-native Coloradan – having migrated over 30 years ago from Iowa. I enjoy hiking, backpacking, fishing, lake kayaking, camping and cross country skiing. I spend a lot of time at my mountain house relaxing and enjoying the great outdoors. It serves as a really good "base camp" with close proximity to various attractions and recreational activities. I am NEVER bored. I create hand-made rustic home accents, furnishings and fixtures from local forest materials gathered on hikes. I also love to entertain friends and family, read, watch movies, visit various museums, learn about history, travel, nutrition, religion, and self-development. Two of my favorite quotes are: "Chance favors the prepared mind" and "Persistence is omnipotent". My husband, Lindsey, and I really enjoy meeting and visiting with new acquaintances locally, when we host and when we travel. We are both really friendly and talkative and love to help others feel welcomed and comfortable when we are hosting. As travelers, we love to engage with locals and really learn the ins and outs of a place, exploring those places "off the beaten path". Likewise, we love to share our knowledge of our neck of the woods and to serve as a great resource to visitors.
