'Once you settle in the conversation pit, you won't want to leave...' - Guest review

Welcome to our home on the outskirts of historic Castlemaine.

We've had a last-minute cancellation for the first weekend in October. We can't be at the house ourselves that weekend, so you may as well be...

The price for October 6-8 has been reduced, so kick back with a wine and friends in the conversation pit or tour the local wineries, cafés and galleries...

The space

Tranquil, architect-designed retreat in charming Chewton village in Victoria's Goldfields. Open-plan living with generous conversation pit, comfy beds, in-floor heating, rainfall shower, views, bush walks and handy general store. Close to Castlemaine. Ideal for couples, small groups.
The house is light-filled and airy, with large windows, high ceilings and a nod to Scandinavian design. The space is open-plan and slightly unconventional with a small bedroom, a bed mezzanine and a large, comfortable conversation pit that easily fits four adults and doubles as an extra bed.

Guest access

Set on a 2000m2 hillside block, the house has views, kangaroos, and recently-established landscaping.

Interaction with guests

Entry is via keysafe.
We are readily contactable via mobile and email before and during your stay. We email all guests directions and other helpful information before they arrive.
We also leave information about local events, markets and FAQs at the house. It's a recently-built house, and very straight-forward, but should an issue arise, we have friends and family locally who can assist.
The house is in reasonable proximity to services. A list of emergency contacts is included at the property.
Most of all, we want you to enjoy!

- Quality mattresses, bed linens, towels, crockery, utensils and appliances

A wonderful space to spend a long weekend. Warm, stylish and the conversation pit is fabulous. Max is a great host with prompt, easy communication. A walk into the National Park, a trip to the Wesley Hill market and an afternoon spent fossicking at the Mill make for a weekend well spent.

If you're after something a little unique that doesn't compromise on comfort and quality, Max's place is a great option. Everyone talks about the conversation pit and for good reason, what a brilliant concept it is and even better trying it out. Breakfast provisions and quality amenities just enhance the overall experience. Two thumbs up from us!

Great location, 5 mins into Castlemaine but feels like you're a million miles away in the bush. Went for the jazz festival. Very beautiful house with stunning decorations and crockery, so definitely not for the clumsy. Love the 'conversation pit', but probably not for those who struggle with mobility. Would definitely rebook.

An absolutely fantastic stay for a girls catch up in the conversation pit. Comfortable, warm, peaceful, cozy and perfect. Everything was as described and more including delicious bread for breakfast. Planning our return. Perfect for a relaxing weekend away.

Maximilian's place was just fantastic, a true AirBnB experience. We loved reading in the conversation pit, the lovely crockery and yummy bread. Will definitely recommend to others.

You won't want to leave! Staying here is an experience! The Scandinavian design of the house and all its features makes you feel even more on a holiday adventure. The hosts are wonderfully attentive. Once you settle down in the conversation pit you won't ever want to leave. The location is also superb - the lovely town of Chewton is just down the street and a stunning pine forest up the road, Castlemaine only a 5 mins drive. Can't recommend it enough!

Hello,

We built our home just near Castlemaine, Australia based on how we like spending weekends with friends and family. We love to cook, eat and lounge about with a glass of wine. So, our house is designed for exactly that. It's a little unconventional: small bedrooms, but comfy beds and a big conversation pit.

Our backgrounds are design: fashion and architecture, and we like to travel. We live and work in Melbourne (only an hour away), and have good systems, including local friends, in place for the house.

We hope you'll enjoy your stay: it's designed for relaxation.

Best regards,

M
