Transport yourself to the 17th Century as you watch the fishermen cast their nets by the Dutch Fort, and imagine how it would have been for the Dutch administrators who lived in this house.
Price is for the family room with attached bathroom.

The space

We love this house and think of it as our home when we're in Batti. Built by the administrators of the 17th century Dutch Fort, it has conserved that old atmosphere almost perfectly ever since. If you squint your eyes and look through one the the iron-barred windows, you'll see what we mean. Like going back in time.
It's for the huge verandah that this house should be known. it's arguably the best in town. the fishermen cast their nets from their canoes by the old Dutch Fort across the water. Legend goes that this is where the Singing Fish can be heard, a phenomenon that was recorded on tape in the fifties, but then the tapes were lost under mysterious circumstances...

Interaction with guests

It is Mr. Ranjan who runs this home. He lives next to the house, together with the cook. Both have always been very welcoming to us and we're sure they will take good care of you too, despite their limited English proficiency. They are happy make you home-cooked dishes, whether it's for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We recommend their ladyfinger curry and freshly made lemon juice!

Neverbeen User Profile

Neverbeen offers a wide variety of rare homes off the beaten track, from fisherman's huts and tree houses to heritage homes and tea estates. Our team hand-picks and visits every home and meet all hosts to make ensure guests have a positively memorable stay in places they've never been.

We provide travellers and home owners in challenging locations with access to one another, by offering communication services, online marketing services and tourism training, so that locals can make a living off their home and travellers can get to stay in places they have never been.

As such, Neverbeen works for a world in which everyone has the chance to earn income by renting out their home, regardless of language, internet access and tourism experience.

In Sri Lanka, Dishan manages our growing group of homes in cooperation with our scouts, while Rohan creates listings and provides service. In Amsterdam, Marten works out international growth plans. Our team of in-house programmers is constantly developing the platform itself and Ernst & Young does our finances.

The first country we're active in is Sri Lanka, a beautiful country with many undiscovered places to stay. Due to it recently having opened up to tourism after decades of conflict, it is a great place to start and pilot the Neverbeen concept. We plan to expand to ten countries before the end of 2017.
