Suginoko and Host:
The Suginoko Guest House, which was opened in 1999, have undergone ownership change and renovation in March and April, 2016.
This is because the original owner has now become too old to continue the guest house and we three young people around thirty will be taking over. So new management will be installed and the name of the guest house will be changed to Yakushima Guesthouse Suginoko.
We are working to make the new Suginoko a place where guests meet, spend time and share their experience with each other.
Also a place as a second home fostering a new lifestyle of working away from home in the island for Yakushima lovers.

Haruka is a superb host. Her breakfasts are wonderful and the packed bento lunch was one of the best I’ve had. It was perfect to throw in my bag for a day of hiking. The guest house has everything you could ask for, even a shoe drier for when I care back from a rainy day hike with soaking shoes. It’s very close to a bus stop, grocery store (which opens at 9 AM for the curious) and a pretty good sushi restaurant (they will make a reservation for you, and it’s necessary). It’s even within walking distance to Anbo port (about 30 minutes) Onto the bad: If you are scared of bugs (like my wife is) you probably shouldn’t stay here. It is a mountain after all, and bugs WILL get into your room. Big ones. We had a big moth, cricket, and a giant scary spider. There are also tons of spiders outside the door and all around. I’m still leaving a 5-star review. The hospitality and location are wonderful and the room was quiet and clean. If you have no problems shooing a pesky bug out of the room here and there, look no further.

At the guesthouse they were so ehlpful, friendly and considerate (even for Japanese people). The room and private bathroom (with fresh towels) were very clean and the airconditioning worked perfectly. One of the girls working there anticipated everything we were looking for and even gave us advice even before we realized we needed it. The atmosphere in the commonroom is very serene and relaxing. They have interesting additional services like bikes, washing machine (only 100 ¥), lunch packages for your hikes during the day and local recomandations. We were offered cold tea when we arrived and when we departed she offered some of her cake. In all we must say that our stay at the guesthouse exceeded our expectations. It really felt like coming home.

I enjoyed my stay a lot, the room was clean and well prepared, while the bath was small, but cozy. The breakfast was great too!
