Where you’ll be

Maple City, Michigan, United States

We are surrounded by spruce trees and deciduous woods and meadows. The yurt is nestled in a maple woods where trillium and other wild flowers abound in the spring. Autumn brings a special beauty to the woods with the smells that accompany falling leaves and wood smoke. Winter is the "prom" for the blue spruce for which the farm is named. Some of them are over 30 feet tall and so beautiful when covered in snow! Of course it is summer when people flock to Leelanau County and it is then when the refuge of the yurt and the quiet farm setting is most welcome. After visiting the Sleeping Bear Dunes and the pristine beaches of Lake Michigan come home and relax. But be sure to have a campfire in the fire pit outside and treat yourself to the night sky of Leelanau where as the stars come out you would swear you can pick them! Sleep soundly because the things to do in Leelanau county are endless....

My husband and I have lived on our farm for the past 18 years after retiring from full time jobs. I was a pediatric respiratory therapist at Mott Children’s hospital and Dick was a landscape designer. We raise Alpine dairy goats who are now retired and serve as very friendly pets. In addition, we have a much loved horse who served at a camp for the disabled until moving to our farm six years ago for his retirement, two kid loving herd dogs, three cats and numerous ducks and chickens. Our animals have all come to love our visitors and we encourage guests to interact with them. We also love meeting people and sharing our farm experiences and local knowledge.
Our farm is located in a very private setting which is accessed off a gravel driveway that is all wheel or four wheel drive only in the winter. It offers a very quiet and private getaway with beautiful hiking trails and a night sky that is memorable on a clear night.
