Description

The space

Welcome'Ome!

Shaun Majumder invites you to come 'Ome and experience the scenic beauty of Burlington, Green Bay, Newfoundland. Located in Iceberg alley, on the north shore of "The Rock", 'Ome is the perfect way to experience stunning rural NL.

A walk through a wooded trail heading towards the ocean leads you to a cluster of thoughtfully oriented tents, each with its own unique character. Each spacious 14 by 16 'Ome luxury tent, sleeps 1-4 people comfortably, and comes furnished with pillow top queen size beds. The hand made bed frames sit on hardwood floors that extend outside the tent as a front deck for lounging.

Each site has a number of communal bathroom buildings which will house Sun-Mar Excel high capacity waterless toilets. We are proud to provide this environmentally responsible technology for our visitors.

There is a community shower building located behind the town hall.

The 'Ome project is a part of a larger social enterprise spearheaded by Canadian actor/writer/comedian Shaun Majumder. His goal is to bring tourism to his 'Ome-town of Burlington NL by creating social businesses which will fuel a sustainable micro economy for the region. All revenue generated goes back into the project and the community. The overall community project includes luxury camping, cabins, and a central lodge. Plus the construction of a community greenhouse and subsequent “Hummock View Greens”.

And a summer festival called The Gathering
(URL HIDDEN)

The project was featured on the hit television series "Majumder Manor" which aired in Canada on the W network.

Guest access

****The TENTS are located in a somewhat remote location and requires some walking on UNEVEN GROUND and CURRENTLY IS NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE. Some moderate "hiking" is required. It's a short walk on an newly cut trail to get down to the tents, but every step will be worth it!

The neighbourhood

Burlington is a town of roughly 350 people located on the eastern side of the Baie Verte Peninsula between the towns of Middle Arm and Smith's Harbour. Situated in the heart of Ice Berg alley, Burlington is home to some of the most breathtaking coastline on the island of Newfoundland. With so many hidden coves and rocky inlets dotting the shore, Green Bay has some of the finest sea kayaking in Eastern Canada. Its surrounding hills are ideal for hiking and exploration, and the abundance of rivers and brooks that flow into Burlington provide some spectacular fresh water fishing. During the winter months, this region of Newfoundland can be twice as active as the summer with hundreds of kilometers of snowmobile trails criss crossing the peninsula. Without a doubt, Burlington is an all year destination.

Getting around

Burlington is a very small town with no public transit, or taxi's. Bring your own transportation if you can but if not, don't be afraid to ask a local for a ride!

Other things to note

We have 2 separate glamping sites:

Site A is a wooded area with easy trail access to the beach and views of the ocean. The FOX, MOOSE, WHALE, SQUID, and COD are closely located on the same site, with ample privacy.

Site B: The ocean front tents are the RABBIT, PUFFIN, EAGLE, and NIPPER. If you are traveling in a group and require 2 tents close to each other, or need direct drive up access to the tents, the NIPPER and EAGLE are ideal.

Very unique experience, the tent is wonderful, the bedding was fantastic, we slept very well. Loved the sound of the ocean slapping the rocks nearby. Like sleeping on a boat! We would love to have a similar opportunity in other places. Modest accommodation home base is great and homey! Great wi-fi and local showers provide all the amenities a person requires.

Sam was incredibly welcoming. She gave us all that we would need to stay at the 'tent site' on the water. She also explained where we could eat, hike, etc. She took us to the site and explained everything.

Stayed in the 'Puffin' tent and it was an incredible experience. The view is amazing and the tent was super cozy and comfortable. Enjoyed a freshly brewed cup of coffee in the morning while gazing out at the ocean. Sam was amazing! Very friendly and helpful and made sure the experience was enjoyable. Would definitely come back and highly recommend 'Glamping'!

We loved this unique experience glamping on the ocean. The night was quite cold but we were snug as bugs in the super comfy bed and what a fabulous view to wake up to. Even the night sky was amazing. The scenery is extraordinary in Burlington and there was plenty to do, but the people captured our hearts. Our stay was way too short so we can't wait to go again!

We had a wonderful nights stay in the Puffin tent. We met Sam who was amazing - she gave us tips about the area and went through everything to do with the accommodation in detail. The tent is great value for money and is exactly as described. The beds were comfortable and it had nice little touches like candles and wine glasses. It was raining when we were staying there so we didn't make use of the fire pit and kayaking but it was a perfect spot for it. There is a restroom really close to the tent but the full bathrooms with running water are a short drive into town - it wasn't an issue for us but might be for some people. This was such a fun place to stay, I highly recommend it.

This is the best camping experience we have ever had. The tents are built so lovingly and the views are spectacular. There is a gorgeous water hole to swim in and locally run places to eat - right on the water! The spots are secluded and the ground - covered in blueberries, juniper etc... We had a beach fire and spent hours starring up at the sky packed with stars.

Thank you so much for your interest in visiting my 'Ome town of Burlington Newfoundland.

For those of you who haven't seen our documentary series "Majumder Manor" on W Network in Canada, let me give you some background on what it is we are doing and how 'Ome is connect.

You see, I've always had love for Newfoundland and more specifically Burlington on the Baie Verte Peninsula. Despite moving away as a young teenager, I've always felt a deep love for the place and returned 'Ome often. And every chance I'd get, I would bring friends or family to experience the remote rugged beauty of the place.

Of course we'd always find places for people to stay, but without any hotels, Inn's or BnB's in the immediate area, space was always a problem. So after purchasing some land during a visit back 'Ome one summer, I knew I had to build places for people to stay. And not only that, but I also realized that with a lot of people moving away to places like Alberta for work, and small towns all over the island shrinking, I wanted to create a reason for the people who already live there to stay. To stay in the place they've always called 'Ome.

And so this is what we are doing...

'Ome Luxury Tents are the initial steps towards our long term goal of creating a sustainable micro economy for the towns of Burlington, Middle Arm, and Smith's Harbour through tourism. First we are focusing on the 'Ome Luxury Tents, then moving to our 'Ome Pods- cabin like structures remotely place throughout the area, and eventually a central lodge with a restaurant. All places for you to call 'Ome when you visit.

And we're doing it as a social enterprise with all of the revenues and profits generated to be repurposed through the company back into the community in one way or another. The money you spend while 'Ome, goes back into the town through the social business. So not only do you get to have a unique cultural travel experience by visiting Burlington through our 'Ome project, but your dollars are going towards supporting a larger community initiative. Its a win win for everyone!

And of course as an actor/writer/comedian I had to create a TV show to document the entire process which is how "Majumder Manor" was born. Along with my partners Rob and Peter Blackie at "Take The Shot" productions, we are currently producing our second season of MM which will air July 2014 on the W Network. Its an honest, hilarious, refreshing look at the trials and tribulations of creating our social enterprise in rural NL.

Again thank you for visiting! I hope you continue to do so as this project will continue to grow over the years to come thanks to you.

Thanks and we will see you in Burlington, Middle Arm and Smith's Harbour!
