About this listing

No place like 'Ome... Glamping tents by the sea!

Rugged canvas tents on wooden frames, built on raised decks. Sleep on comfy queen size pillowtop beds with amazing views of the ocean. Its camping... but comfy camping!

The space

Shaun Majumder invites you to come 'Ome and experience the scenic beauty of Burlington, Green Bay, Newfoundland. Located in Iceberg alley, on the north shore of "The Rock", 'Ome is the perfect way to experience stunning rural NL.

A walk through a wooded trail heading towards the ocean leads you to a cluster of thoughtfully oriented tents, each with its own unique character. Each spacious 14 by 16 'Ome luxury tent, sleeps 1-4 people comfortably, and comes furnished with pillow top queen size beds. The hand made bed frames sit on hardwood floors that extend outside the tent as a front deck for lounging.

Each site has a number of communal bathroom buildings which will house Sun-Mar Excel high capacity waterless toilets. We are proud to provide this environmentally responsible technology for our visitors.

There is a community shower building located behind the town hall.

The 'Ome project is a part of a larger social enterprise spearheaded by Canadian actor/writer/comedian Shaun Majumder. His goal is to bring tourism to his 'Ome-town of Burlington NL by creating social businesses which will fuel a sustainable micro economy for the region. All revenue generated goes back into the project and the community. The overall community project includes luxury camping, cabins, and a central lodge. Plus the construction of a community greenhouse and subsequent “Hummock View Greens”.

And a summer festival called The Gathering

The project was featured on the hit television series "Majumder Manor" which aired in Canada on the W network.

Guest access

****The TENTS are located in a somewhat remote location and requires some walking on UNEVEN GROUND and CURRENTLY IS NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE. Some moderate "hiking" is required. It's a short walk on an newly cut trail to get down to the tents, but every step will be worth it!

Other things to note

We have 2 separate glamping sites:

Site A is a wooded area with easy trail access to the beach and views of the ocean. The FOX, MOOSE, WHALE, SQUID, and COD are closely located on the same site, with ample privacy.

Site B: The ocean front tents are the RABBIT, PUFFIN, EAGLE, and NIPPER. If you are traveling in a group and require 2 tents close to each other, or need direct drive up access to the tents, the NIPPER and EAGLE are ideal.

Pretty cool glamping experience right on the water. Even though it is a basic tent and does get cold overnight the blankets were super comfy. A word of warning that the gps location of the OME head office isn't very accurate like many things on this island so when you get close slow down and take a look or you'll drive right by it like I did.

Staying in the Ome tent was an amazing experience!! The tent truly felt luxurious, was very clean and thoughtfully laid out. It was very quiet in the area and so peaceful. Even the outhouse felt fancy! The bed was very comfortable and the view was incredible. Brady was very helpful with specific directions and information at check in. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a little peaceful spot to rest or adventure!

So amazing! I can't give enough stars for this place. It's even better than I imagined, and that's saying a lot because as soon as I saw the posting I insisted this was somewhere I wanted to visit on our recent NL trip. We had a bit of a mission finding the place, as we drove towards Burlington we lost all phone service (which also meant GPS). But we stopped into a small Canada Post attached to a restaurant (shout out to the chuck wagon for their help) and the girl there knew exactly who were talking about when we said we were looking for the Glamping. She called Brady who happily drove to meet us and escort us to 'ome sweet 'ome. Once there I was actually surprised that we managed to miss it, the was out front of the house where we met to sign in, and then Sam escorted us to our tent site. The tent we stayed in (Puffin) was beautiful. Hand made quilt on the bed, lovingly decorated, and absolutely amazing view of the water. We had a fire down by the rocks that night, and woke up to an iceberg that had drifted into view. It was warm enough that we didn't need to use the space heater, but can tell that even in pretty chilly weather this would still be an ideal place. Sam gave us a map of the area and great tips on where to hike/walk, take pictures. Oh and about a 5-10 minute drive from the tent we went to the Newfie Grab and Go which is a mobile food truck, for dinner to arrange breakfast. The turkey mess was great! As we were in the middle of a road trip across NL we weren't really prepared to camp for real, so this was perfect. If you are considering staying here, I say just do it.

It was a great experience from being greeted on our arrival, to listening to their excitement for their town and all that it has to offer, to glamping on the ocean. We only stayed one night as we were passing through. We would have loved to stay longer. The Puffin tent was prefect, it was large with a high ceiling, nicely done inside, a very comfortable bed. warm comforter, a heater if needed, great views, and very private.

I stayed one night here and my only regret was not staying longer! The tents are setup with the necessary comforts of 'glamping' while still giving you the camping feel. Everyone was very nice, great communication and information on the area. Definitely recommend this place!

Stayed in both the tent and the pod. Will not forget either. Had a unique experience at each one. The check in, communication, everything was easy, we had no problems. Some great hikes in the area and plenty to do. Have spent a few days hiking in Terra Nova and Gros Morne and would still say that Chip(s) Hill was one of our favorites. Would stay again.

Thank you so much for your interest in visiting my 'Ome town of Burlington Newfoundland.

For those of you who haven't seen our documentary series "Majumder Manor" on W Network in Canada, let me give you some background on what it is we are doing and how 'Ome is connect.

You see, I've always had love for Newfoundland and more specifically Burlington on the Baie Verte Peninsula. Despite moving away as a young teenager, I've always felt a deep love for the place and returned 'Ome often. And every chance I'd get, I would bring friends or family to experience the remote rugged beauty of the place.

Of course we'd always find places for people to stay, but without any hotels, Inn's or BnB's in the immediate area, space was always a problem. So after purchasing some land during a visit back 'Ome one summer, I knew I had to build places for people to stay. And not only that, but I also realized that with a lot of people moving away to places like Alberta for work, and small towns all over the island shrinking, I wanted to create a reason for the people who already live there to stay. To stay in the place they've always called 'Ome.

And so this is what we are doing...

'Ome Luxury Tents are the initial steps towards our long term goal of creating a sustainable micro economy for the towns of Burlington, Middle Arm, and Smith's Harbour through tourism. First we are focusing on the 'Ome Luxury Tents, then moving to our 'Ome Pods- cabin like structures remotely place throughout the area, and eventually a central lodge with a restaurant. All places for you to call 'Ome when you visit.

And we're doing it as a social enterprise with all of the revenues and profits generated to be repurposed through the company back into the community in one way or another. The money you spend while 'Ome, goes back into the town through the social business. So not only do you get to have a unique cultural travel experience by visiting Burlington through our 'Ome project, but your dollars are going towards supporting a larger community initiative. Its a win win for everyone!

And of course as an actor/writer/comedian I had to create a TV show to document the entire process which is how "Majumder Manor" was born. Along with my partners Rob and Peter Blackie at "Take The Shot" productions, we are currently producing our second season of MM which will air July 2014 on the W Network. Its an honest, hilarious, refreshing look at the trials and tribulations of creating our social enterprise in rural NL.

Again thank you for visiting! I hope you continue to do so as this project will continue to grow over the years to come thanks to you.

Thanks and we will see you in Burlington, Middle Arm and Smith's Harbour!
