The space

Shaun Majumder invites you to come 'Ome and experience the scenic beauty of Burlington, Green Bay, Newfoundland. Located in Iceberg alley, on the north shore of "The Rock", 'Ome is the perfect way to experience stunning rural NL.

A walk through a wooded trail heading towards the ocean leads you to a cluster of thoughtfully oriented tents, each with its own unique character. Each spacious 14 by 16 'Ome luxury tent, sleeps 1-4 people comfortably, and comes furnished with pillow top queen size beds. The hand made bed frames sit on hardwood floors that extend outside the tent as a front deck for lounging.

Each site has a number of communal bathroom buildings which will house Sun-Mar Excel high capacity waterless toilets. We are proud to provide this environmentally responsible technology for our visitors.

There is a community shower building located behind the town hall.

The 'Ome project is a part of a larger social enterprise spearheaded by Canadian actor/writer/comedian Shaun Majumder. His goal is to bring tourism to his 'Ome-town of Burlington NL by creating social businesses which will fuel a sustainable micro economy for the region. All revenue generated goes back into the project and the community. The overall community project includes luxury camping, cabins, and a central lodge. Plus the construction of a community greenhouse and subsequent “Hummock View Greens”.

And a summer festival called The Gathering

The project was featured on the hit television series "Majumder Manor" which aired in Canada on the W network.

Guest access

****The TENTS are located in a somewhat remote location and requires some walking on UNEVEN GROUND and CURRENTLY IS NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE. Some moderate "hiking" is required. It's a short walk on an newly cut trail to get down to the tents, but every step will be worth it!

Other things to note

We have 2 separate glamping sites:

Site A is a wooded area with easy trail access to the beach and views of the ocean. The FOX, MOOSE, WHALE, SQUID, and COD are closely located on the same site, with ample privacy.

Site B: The ocean front tents are the RABBIT, PUFFIN, EAGLE, and NIPPER. If you are traveling in a group and require 2 tents close to each other, or need direct drive up access to the tents, the NIPPER and EAGLE are ideal.

I cannot recommend 'Ome Tents enough!!!! It was the highlight of our summer. We only went for one night but next year it will be two or three for sure. There is so much to see and do - we spent most of the day swimming and picking blueberries at the brook and it was gorgeous. Sam was lovely, as was literally every other person we spoke to. From the bottom of my heart I say - go!!! You won't regret it. Extra stuff: I didn't completely understand that there were two locations for the tents - one is more in the trees with a private beach about 1-2 minutes walk away, the other is facing the water directly. Bring coffee for the coffee maker. You can bring food and coals to make your meals but we just brought stuff to roast on the fire. We went to Middle Arm and ate at the Corner Cafe and it was yummy - the home fries are delicious and the portion they give you is actually unfinishable. Go support the local businesses! Some of the tents are down a very steep hill. I am not a super fit person and I didn't have any trouble walking up and down but definitely take your time at night and pack some sneakers if you want to be extra sturdy. I walked around in sandals and they were a bit un-sturdy. There is wifi available in the trailer (where you will meet with Sam to go over everything when you get there), and at some of the restaurants. No cell service once you hit the 410 highway. They provide splits and firewood and a fire starter kit but bring a lighter. Again, I cannot rave enough about this place. I will be telling everyone who will listen to go and we will be booking for next year early! Thanks Sam and Shaun and everyone else for an incredible time.

My boyfriend and I had the most incredible stay in one of the 'Ome Tents in Burlington. Our biggest regret of our entire trip to Newfoundland was not staying longer (we only had the chance to stay one night before leaving for our flight in St. John’s). Shaun, Sam, and the entire ‘Ome team were the epitome of hospitality (an evening filled with lobster, moose burgers, and fireworks—to say nothing of the company!)--we couldn't have asked for a better ‘glamping’ experience. The décor of the 'Ome tents were divine. We knew straight away that our hosts had put in tons of tender love and care, also reflected in in how they spoke about the community itself. This was our first Airbnb stay in which we felt a sense of community--not only within the accommodation hub, but in the towns of Burlington and Middle Arm. Beyond the woodsy décor and the calming scenery (waking up to the waves hitting the shore is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced) there is a sense of sublimity in Burlington. Nothing is over-the-top, and yet, by far it exceeds any and all expectations that you may have. Everyone was so welcoming, and honest-to-goodness we didn't want to leave. Although Burlington is slightly off the beaten path, I highly suggest staying here if you want a truly authentic Newfoundland experience with a whole lot of heart.

Stayed in Burlington this past weekend and we absolutely loved it! The tents are perfect, clean, well decorated with a beautiful view and have everything you would need. The hosts are amazing and did everything possible to make sure we had a good time, we got an opportunity to go out in boat to view an iceberg and had a fire on the beach with our fellow glampers. It was a wonderful experience and we cant wait to visit again!

This may be the most beautiful place I've ever fallen asleep at. We had a view of the cove from our bed! this was truly a one of a kind experience. such kind and generous hosts to lend us kayaks and cooking utensils and bring them out to us in the pouring rain. they had lots of suggestions of places to hike and swim. we even saw a huge ice berg and a whale! this little town is a true senic gem and the tents are cooler then we could have imagined.

We had the BEST time at Shaun's glamping tents! The view was wonderful and he and his wife too! The tents we're really cozy and one of the best experience I had in Newfoundland! Shaun also took us out on his boat to see an iceberg real close! I would strongly recommend to everybody!

Thank you so much for your interest in visiting my 'Ome town of Burlington Newfoundland.

For those of you who haven't seen our documentary series "Majumder Manor" on W Network in Canada, let me give you some background on what it is we are doing and how 'Ome is connect.

You see, I've always had love for Newfoundland and more specifically Burlington on the Baie Verte Peninsula. Despite moving away as a young teenager, I've always felt a deep love for the place and returned 'Ome often. And every chance I'd get, I would bring friends or family to experience the remote rugged beauty of the place.

Of course we'd always find places for people to stay, but without any hotels, Inn's or BnB's in the immediate area, space was always a problem. So after purchasing some land during a visit back 'Ome one summer, I knew I had to build places for people to stay. And not only that, but I also realized that with a lot of people moving away to places like Alberta for work, and small towns all over the island shrinking, I wanted to create a reason for the people who already live there to stay. To stay in the place they've always called 'Ome.

And so this is what we are doing...

'Ome Luxury Tents are the initial steps towards our long term goal of creating a sustainable micro economy for the towns of Burlington, Middle Arm, and Smith's Harbour through tourism. First we are focusing on the 'Ome Luxury Tents, then moving to our 'Ome Pods- cabin like structures remotely place throughout the area, and eventually a central lodge with a restaurant. All places for you to call 'Ome when you visit.

And we're doing it as a social enterprise with all of the revenues and profits generated to be repurposed through the company back into the community in one way or another. The money you spend while 'Ome, goes back into the town through the social business. So not only do you get to have a unique cultural travel experience by visiting Burlington through our 'Ome project, but your dollars are going towards supporting a larger community initiative. Its a win win for everyone!

And of course as an actor/writer/comedian I had to create a TV show to document the entire process which is how "Majumder Manor" was born. Along with my partners Rob and Peter Blackie at "Take The Shot" productions, we are currently producing our second season of MM which will air July 2014 on the W Network. Its an honest, hilarious, refreshing look at the trials and tribulations of creating our social enterprise in rural NL.

Again thank you for visiting! I hope you continue to do so as this project will continue to grow over the years to come thanks to you.

Thanks and we will see you in Burlington, Middle Arm and Smith's Harbour!
