Feel as though you've come to stay with old friends who just happen to have amazing water views and wonderful pets. With dinner & breakfast included, all you need to do is bring your own alcohol (or get some from us if you want to) then sit back, relax and enjoy!

And of course we’re LGBTQIA+ friendly.

The space
Hi!

We are a semi-retired professional couple who made a lifestyle choice to relocate from Melbourne to Tasmania so that we could live in a beach house with absolute water frontage. We have 160 degree views overlooking Fredrick Henry Bay, which is an approximately 45 minute drive from the capital of Hobart and half way to the famous convict ruins of Port Arthur.

The house is a modernised but old shack, with 2 bedrooms, study, one bathroom, separate toilet and open plan living, dining and kitchen areas. As such, it will never look as perfect as a newer or modern home. But we also have 2 decks to make the most of outside living and the views!

We share the house with a Bengal cat, Oscar, and our German Shepherd, Hugo. As the animals are inside whenever they choose to be, our home is not for you if you have any allergies or are not an animal lover. If you’ve never interacted with domestic animals but would like to, ours are so used to guests they’re great to practise on!

A continental breakfast is provided and you are welcome to join us for a family dinner as Primrose Sands is a beach community with few services. Feel free to bring your own alcohol, but if you don’t, we’ll have some Australian wine available.

We’re also happy to put a load of washing through for you so that you’re not wasting valuable travelling time in a laundromat ( is there anything more boring?!) at a very reasonable additional cost. We have a dryer, too, in case your clothes haven’t got the time to air dry. An iron and ironing board are also available should you require them.

Relax and re-energise in the peace and natural beauty of Primrose Sands, perhaps taking a walk along the mile long empty beach, sitting in front of a fire on our deck or fishing from our rocks. There are lots of books to read and both Foxtel and Netflix to keep up with world news or those all important sports results or TV shows! Then look at the stars in a perfectly clear sky at night before sleeping in near perfect quiet...if you're lucky and have the right camera gear, you might even see the Southern Aurora.

Please feel free to treat our house as your own while you're here. Feet on the furniture are just fine as are dressing gowns! Above all, we just want you to be comfortable!

We will be here during your stay and will spend as much or as little time interacting with you as you like. However, be warned, Hugo will try to get you to play with him and Oscar will demand pats!

Primrose is a holiday beach community primarily for Hobart people who have 'shacks' here because they couldn’t possibly drive the 45 minutes or so between Hobart and Primrose twice in one day! Unbelievable, isn’t it? However, more and more people are choosing to live here permanently from interstate and overseas so gradually these shacks are being upgraded and new homes built.

Unfortunately, Tasmania has very little public transport as the state can’t afford the infrastructure for the relatively few people (around 500,000) living on quite a large island. So, no trams, no passenger trains and relatively few buses. Basically, you can’t get here without your own car or hire vehicle as taxi costs to Primrose are prohibitive and there simply are no other regular forms of public transport.

Before booking, bear in mind that:

1. Only Telstra has mobile coverage in Primrose Sands.

2. Parking is on the street but is quite safe.

3. You must have your own transport.

4. You need to be an animal lover and welcome animals interacting with you.

5. There are two steps up to the porch and front door but we have hand rails. A walker could be used around our house and top balcony so you’ll cope here with limited mobility.

Guest access
The entire house is at your disposal except for our bedroom. Most guests spend the majority of their time on one of our two decks!

Other things to note
Telstra is the only reliable mobile service in Tasmania.

Also, you will need your own form of transport to get here as there is relatively little public transport in Tasmania.

Primrose Sands, Tasmania, Australia

Only a thousand people like in Primrose, and most of them are retirees. In summer, the population jumps to around three thousand. Many Tasmanians have beach shacks which are handed down through the family but used rarely. It's a very safe neighbourhood where few of us lock our homes or cars! Cars are safe parked almost anywhere and people walk down the middle of the road!

Hi! Love reading, film, animals (hence my German Shepherd and cat, let alone our chooks, wild bird visitations and even worm farm!) travelling, cooking, wine, restaurants... We used Airbnb when we travelled to the States some years ago and had a great time, so decided to offer our home to fellow travellers too! Since then, we’ve met lots of wonderful people who felt like friends we didn’t know we had when they’ve stayed with us...
