This beautiful, private home boasts a chef's kitchen, 2 acre spring-fed pond & scenic views —a perfect location for outdoor enthusiasts wishing to explore SW WI, as well as those who just want to stay home and hang! Close to Spring Green and Viroqua.
This is a beautiful home is situated on 40 private acres — perfect for relaxing with friends and family, while also a great home-base for those who want to explore the area.
The Driftless region of Wisconsin boasts some of the best road-riding in the U.S. (with many low-traffic, paved roads and beautiful Driftless scenery) along with easy access to American Players Theater and the town of Spring Green, The Driftless Cafe and the town of Viroqua, Farmer's Markets, Music and Arts Festivals, Wildcat Mountain, The Kickapoo Reserve, bountiful trout fishing, hiking, golf, canoeing and tubing and much more.
Please be aware that our property has a 2-acre spring-fed pond with raft, which is lovely for swimming, but guests must take full responsibility for their own water safety.
*It should also be noted that the house does not have air conditioning. On most days this is not a problem as we are situated on the north side of a hill and have plenty of fans, but on very hot days the shades on the west side of the home should be pulled in the afternoon to screen the sun and keep the house cooler.
Springtime brings fly-fishing, morel mushroom hunting, wild asparagus, the beginning of bike season, and bird migration. Because our property is mixed with open space, woods, and water, we see almost every bird imaginable —bluebirds, scarlet tanagers, Baltimore orioles, grosbeaks, indigo buntings, goldfinches, nuthatches, hummingbirds, hawks, kestrels, and much more. There is even a large bald eagle's nest five miles up the road.
Summertime brings the Driftless Music Festival, Farmer's Market, trips to the Drive-In and American Player's Theater, along with lazy days on the pond, canoeing down the Kickapoo River, unbeatable bike rides, cooking out, and cocktails on the porch.
Fall brings the Driftless Art Festival and Harvest Parade, The Dam Challenge triathlon, spectacular foliage, to be admired on long hikes through Wildcat Mountain State Park and the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, and the best biking of the season with warm, but not hot days.
Winter is the perfect time to cozy up by the wood stove, read, knit (visit the fabulous Ewetopia fiber shop in Viroqua) play games, visit with friends and cook large meals with a little bit of sledding and/or snowshoeing interspersed.
All in all, this is a wonderful space in which to enjoy good company, and a perfect home base from which to explore this dynamic region.
Interaction with guests
We will leave you alone to enjoy the space, but are always happy to answer any questions you may have.
Occasionally, you may see us coming or going from the small office that is above our garage.
Please respect our home as it was your own and leave it as you found it for the next guests to enjoy! Please read house manual regarding trash and cleanup on departure day, clean your dishes and start the dishwasher before leaving the house. We try to keep the home VERY clean, but you must understand that the house is large and open on all sides to farmland and nature. It is extremely challenging to keep the house as clean as it might be if it were surrounded by sidewalks and asphalt, but we do our best! Please do your part to help us in this effort by making sure that screens are kept closed, shoes are removed at the doors, and garbage and food scraps are properly disposed of. Also, please make sure that your expectations are realistic for a farmhouse in the country!
There is a 2 acre pond on the property. All guests must take full responsibility for their own water safety.
No bikes in house
Shoes off at the door please
Please use beach towels (found in the mudroom) when swimming at the pond, and WASH and DRY them before you depart (NO BATH TOWELS outside of the house!)
If you plug anything into the television, please make sure that whatever plugs you have removed are put back in their places. More than once, we have had people alter the television and walk away. Since we are not using it, we do not find out until the next guests have checked in, and it is challenging to problem-solve these issues over text or phone.
Turn of all lights and heat before you leave the premises.
We ask that there be no hunting or ATVs on the property.
Silent Sports only, and please be respectful of property boundaries keeping on the marked/mowed trails
No hunting on property, but for those who are interested in hunting, there are several public parks in surrounding areas that permit hunting.
Events and larger gatherings are possible with permission from the host, but may require a surcharge. Even if you are only inviting extra friends to visit for a day, we would like to know this ahead of time as it almost always adds extra cleaning time and extra garbage an recycling to dispose of.
Finally, we understand that accidents happen, but if something gets broken or stained, please let us know! Don’t leave it for us to discover after you have left. We often have a very fast turn-around time and it is much easier if we can have the heads-up and be prepared ahead of time.
We thank you in advance for your respect!
From Sep 5 - Dec 16, 2017 the minimum stay is 2 nights.
