My stay at Effie's place was more than great. Great location to access to downtown and 4th Ave etc... The room was clean, enough space and comfortable. Bathroom is also very clean and new. She let me use her kitchen and also fridge so I could keep my foods there. I was able to have some good conversations with her and that was great. I had changed my plan few times but she was always so kind to me and made my stay easy and wonderful. Nice place and nice person to stay with.

I felt under watch with my every move, as there seemed to be a rule for everything in the house. Which towels are used for what, how long to grind the coffee, and the list goes on. Be prepared for a regimented stay. As adults, there should be a level of trust that your things will be respected. If something is weak and easily damaged, I would rather it not be available Every time I was in the common space, a long conversation ensued. I felt there was too much host interaction, and it did not feel like a retreat from a busy day, but rather a boarding house where anything out of line would receive a scolding. "Visitors welcomed only when we are both in the suite". I felt my Sunday breakfast would be alright, and did not appreciate the castigation when sharing my plans. I had to change a nice relaxing breakfast into a rushed food-to go picnic. I felt that many of our conversations had a negative moment, and my girlfriend was belittled for her choices during the trip, and not believed when describing a negative experience in the neighborhood. Compared to previous co-living airbnb stays, I felt that the host did not keep enough distance. It should not be the visitor’s job to ask for more privacy. The space was beautiful and clean. The only complaint I have is the domain which the cat has, as animals on the counters and dining spaces does not match my expected level of hygiene.

Response from Effie:
I wish you the best David, life is too short for anything else. I enjoy bringing happiness to my guests, but I have to accept that it may not always be possible. You are the only guest that hasn’t rated me a 5 in communication – giving a rating of 2 hurts me, but I have to trust in all in the other guests and realize that you are the rare person that doesn’t like communication. I think all your complaints lie in the failure to communicate. I just wish you had told me, I’d have been happy to not inquire about your day. As well, let’s not forget that your letdown started before you even arrived. I believe it started when Steffy and her friend switched from the Airbnb in our neighbourhood, to one in a totally different city. That set the stage for your disappointment. Once I realized that you also hadn’t read the listing carefully, I knew it was an uphill battle. Regardless, I tried to be warm and welcoming. Still, the rules are clear and I’ve never had anyone announce that they are hosting a brunch at my home, in the way you did. Sorry, that you didn’t read carefully and communicate better. Also, I am very clear and that there is a cat in this home, so I am sorry if you don’t like their behavior. I have never had such an unhappy guest, but you know what – it goes to show that even a superhost can’t please everyone. Good luck to you David.

If you're gonna stay in Effie's house, I would say you made an excellent choice and are very lucky. Her house is located in a lovely neighborhood near Kitsilano Beach. Just walking around this area on a sunny day will make your moments a lot happier. Bus stops are within 5-7 mins walk which makes your everyday journey much easier. There is a quality coffee shop on the way to the bus stop whose cakes I found really delicious. A grocery store is right next to the coffee shop too. The room is very cozy and bright with big windows. The desk in the room is very convenient. Since Effie lets you use the refrigerator, cupboard, and washing machine, you will find yourself very comfortable especially when your stay is pretty long. One of the best things about this house I should not miss is the host Effie. She is very welcoming and friendly. She actively helps her guest to better explore this city. Had it not been for her help, I would have spent a lot of time on the street to find where to buy a transportation card and all. Luckily enough, I could have some nice chat with her which gives me a good opportunity to learn more about this country and peek into Canadians' life. I think that is one of the benefits that only Airbnb can give. p.s. If you love cats, you can have a good companion who is so curious about you. He is very cute.

Effie is a welcoming host. My wife went to UBC for her grad studies so she is well acquainted with Vancouver, but Effie shared with us some highlights that we didn't know about, which were quite helpful. Effie's home is right in the heart of Kitsilano. There are so many great local restaurants of every ethnicity to enjoy; and several options of each to choose from. Her home is close to UBC and downtown too. We had a car so we didn't use public transit, but Effie gets around exclusively with public transit, so I'm sure if you didn't have a car, she'd be a great source of info on that as well. If you do have a car, make sure you have some Canadian change, as most of the parking requires either credit cards or change. Her home is spotless and clean. The bedroom is comfortable, has more than enough room to hang up your clothes, have your luggage open and still get around. Seriously, this is not a bedroom where you have to close up your luggage in order to move around the room. The bathroom has recently been updated as well, and is nice and clean. Kitchen has been updated as well. Effie has enough room for you set aside for your groceries, and plenty of room in the fridge for your stuff. We cooked breakfast on several mornings using her kitchen and it was great. Parking is easy in the back alley of the house. It feels very safe and is well lit. Effie's home was a great launching pad for all that we did in Vancouver. I hope you have a great time with her as well.

Effie's space is just like the pictures and the description, very clean, and plenty of light and space. The bathroom, bedroom, and kitchen were always well taken care of, clean and organized. Effie was an incredible host with top notch communication and was very knowledgable about getting around Kitsilano and the greater Vancouver area. Effie is very accommodating and she does what she can to ensure you have a great stay. This was my first long term stay through Airbnb and I couldn't have asked for a better host to introduce me to Vancouver. If you're looking for a great space, host, and location then look no further because Effie will not disappoint. Thank you Effie for a great experience!

Effie made my first AirBnb stay a terrific experience, ensuring a smooth check in and a relaxed check out. Her place is perfectly located in Kits, with less than a mile to both the beach and 4th street (where all the fun stuff is). A very comfortable stay, with just the right amount of interaction from Effie to make me feel welcome whilst allowing plenty of space. I felt more like I'd come to stay with a relative than an Airbnb. I would highly recommend Effie's place to anyone looking for a comfortable room in a brilliant neighborhood. Thanks again for the great stay!

I am a fellow Airbnb traveller myself so, I appreciate it from both sides.

I am an ESL teacher and teach (16 - 73 yr old students) downtown in Vancouver. I love working with different cultures and sharing my love of Vancouver with them. I grew up here, so I have seen Vancover grow from a small sleepy town to what it is now - vibrant and an international hot spot. I have deep rooted experience and knowledge which I am happy to share with my guests.

I have also lived in Greece and in many parts of the US (Boston, Philly, and Northern California). I have 2 grown children, my daughter and her hubby live near Napa and my son lives in Los Angeles.

I have a kitty who is usually well behaved and loves people. He is nine and laid back. He is an indoor cat, so care must be taken not to let him outside. I like to garden and help things grow. I also love walking around this beautiful neighbourhood and this is my main form of exercise. Watching movies and TV series through internet is also fun as is reading.

I am a morning person, but I am quiet. I work downtown, so I will be out most of the day. I sometimes work Saturdays as well. I am an open, outgoing, person yet know how to make even the shyest person feel comfortable.

Come and explore Vancouver by staying in what many people say is the most desireable area - beautiful Kitsilano. Welcome!
