A delightful and unique country cottage with historical links to the Plantagenet Kings of England! It's tucked away, surrounded by mature gardens that overlook the Eastwell Manor Country Estate. Plantagenet Cottage is newly refurbished, spacious, full of character, very private and relaxing . Our heated pool is great in Summer [closed in Winter]. Enjoy the beautiful Kent countryside, great pubs, a nearby Spa, beaches, Canterbury and lots more - or simply just chill out at the cottage !
The space
COVID-19 UPDATE - we are taking our covid cleaning very seriously and strictly following sanitising guidelines. We also ask that guests agree to inform us pre and post stay if they show any symptoms.
Plantagenet Cottage dates back to the 16th Century and local legend says it was built by the 'illegitimate' son of King Richard the 3rd [the last Plantagenet King of England; he's the one they found under the car park in Leicester more recently]. We call one of our bedrooms "Richard's Room". There are some books and an old transcript describing the fascinating history of the cottage - it's a great story ! The tomb of our Richard Plantagenet [the last Plantagenet heir to the throne of England] still lies in the ruins of nearby St Mary's church of Eastwell which makes for a nice walk.
Guest access
You will have exclusive use of the entire detached property and grounds. This consists of a driveway for two cars, the large mature garden and exterior heated swimming pool [open mid-Apr. to early Oct. approximately] Inside the property you will find a handmade wooden kitchen with modern appliances, an office space with network ports & a printer, adjoining this is the large living / dining area with vaulted ceiling and an inglenook fireplace, with our new wood burning stove. There is a walk in storage cupboard, a bathroom, hallway & porch with a historic arched oak door and then the three luxurious carpeted double bedrooms. There are no other properties or people at the site and we are quite hidden from the road so it feels very private - there are neighbours about 40 meters away only on one side of the property [not the main garden or pool side] and mostly hidden by trees.
Other things to note
There is underfloor heating to the main stone floor, there is Netflix and Amazon Prime on the Smart TV as well as BBC I-player / ITV Hub etc.
As well as WIFI there are network ports in each room. It's a pretty good connection for a rural spot - we do video calls and stream Netflix etc without problem.
The bathroom has a new combi boiler, so you should never run out of hot water.
We do allow guests to bring clean and well behaved pets [small additional fee], but you must agree to our Pet Rules and get advance approval at the time of booking.
Some periods are set to have a minimum stay requirement - if this does not suit your plans please contact us. 1 night stays are possible [perhaps for business travellers] at an increased nightly rate to cover our overhead costs.
Our cancellation policy is set to avoid time wasters - for your peace of mind, if something unexpected crops up, we are very reasonable and can accommodate adjustments and in some cases refunds.
Note re: Bed configurations:
Bedroom 1 & 2 can both be made up as either 1 x SuperKing OR 2 x Singles [not both].
Bedroom 2 also has a pull-out mattress to accommodate a 7th person / child. It is only made up on request [small additional fee]
The Cottage is generally best suited to 6 people.

The cottage is tucked away in a very unique and secluded spot, so offers privacy but is still within easy reach of excellent local amenities. It is nestled on the edge of a small village called Boughton Aluph which surrounds a central cricket green and traditional Kentish pub which is a short stroll away. Our property overlooks the picturesque sheep filled grounds of the Eastwell Manor Estate & Hotel which can be seen in the distance [which itself boasts fine dining, a spa, golf course, indoor pool and a huge lake]. Nearby is the practical thriving town of Ashford, and the wonderful historic city of Canterbury, the nature filled South Downs and many traditional Kentish pubs. There's an abundance of cycling trails and walks - nearby Kingswood being a favourite. The seaside towns of Whitstable, Rye, Herne Bay and the sandy beaches at Camber are all near enough for day trips, as is central London.

We've been hosting guests at our cottage on AirBnB for several years now and it continues to be a real passion project.
