This is a truly remote location so it can be very difficult to get here. Access is by boat only which guests must arrange for themselves.

An old crofthouse has been refurbished as a cosy off-grid studio for adventurous travellers on Scotland's west coast. It has outstanding views surrounded by wild and beautiful countryside. This is the only house on the secluded Loch na Droma Buidhe, there is no road and our nearest neighbour is 6 miles walk away.

The space
This is an 18th century crofthouse which has been refurbished as a studio apartment. It has its own kitchen and bathroom (bath only) and it's bright and warm with views out to the west.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge-freezer, gas stove and all the pots, pans and crockery you should need. We supply the basics of flour, sugar, tea, coffee, oil, salt and pepper.

This is the only property on Loch na Droma Buidhe. Our nearest neighbours are 6 miles walk away. The property is completely off-grid: water comes from the burn beside the property; heating is from a wood stove and we generate electricity from photovoltaics and a water turbine. We have a garden for fruit and vegetables and there is great fishing in the surrounding seas.

There is no mobile phone reception here and no television or wifi in the coastal retreat. We have a cosy library (heated with a wood stove) with a great collection of books and board games as well as a cinema projector and a large selection of films for those days when it's just too dreich outside.

Our family has been staying on Loch na Droma Buidhe since 1963 so we're pretty well stocked. We can help out with most things from olive oil and baked beans to tide times and recipes for razor clams.

I work as a research engineer and as a (very) small-scale crofter based here in Morvern. My parents started renting this cottage and the surrounding land in 1963 so, although I've lived and worked around the world, this has always been my home.
