This studio room features a queen bed and a single bed, an en-suite bathroom and kitchen facilities along with a high standard of comfort provided by double-glazed windows and doors, full insulation and central heating. There is an adjacent studio very similar in set-up but with just one queen bed.
Off-street car parking is available right outside the space.

The space
Originally, the Stables were – as the name suggests – the ground floor horse stables of an attractive bluestone and brick residence built around the 1900s. With the retirement of horse traffic, the stabling became a basement storage area and was later turned into a one-bedroom flat. During more recent renovations, the original brick arches were once more exposed and restored to their former charm reminding us of the historical purpose of this space.

Guest access
This studio room is accessed down a private driveway which runs off Bishops Place, a small lane just off Rattray Street. Private off-street parking for two side-by-side studios is provided right outside the rooms. Please note that the side streets in this part of town (which is located on a hill) are narrow - comparable to historic town centres in Europe.

Location

Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand

The studio is located in a residential area, and it is just a 5 minute walk down into the very centre of town (on the way back maybe 7-10 minutes because Dunedin is hilly ;D). And for those keen on a good, hearty meal out, the Speight’s Ale House is just 200m down the hill, located right next door to the brewery.

I have always loved travelling, exploring new countries and meeting people from across the world. Swiss-born and bred, I arrived in NZ with my backpack some 25 years ago and was lucky enough to find my Kiwi hubby who used to do tour driving around Europe and NZ. After travelling around the South Island together in our mobile home for a couple of years, we set up Hogwartz Backpacker Hostel and Studios in Dunedin which we ran for 16 years until March 2020. I love animals, and I enjoy taking our dog on my SUP for a quiet glide or ride my motorbike to clear out the cobwebs.
