The space

During the fall to late spring, step onto your deck and watch the incredible northern lights dancing right over your head with no city light pollution. In the summer months, enjoy the midnight sun in all its warmth, paddling in Houseboat Bay using the canoe we provide for your transportation to and from shore. In the summer, you'll meet many of the locals who regularly drop by in their kayaks, canoes, and power boats~! In the winter, book tour operators to go dog sledding, ice fishing, snowshoeing and walking tours or simply carry your camera around and click the action all around you; there are plenty of people skiing, kite skiing, skijoring and walking everywhere~!

The main houseboat at Mo's is the site of the first houseboat B&B in Yellowknife, the renowned "Yellowknife Bay Floating B&B", started in 2012. It hosted "the Amazing Race Canada" as one of its' clue stops, was touted in Maclean's Magazine as a 'must see', and was featured in "Extreme Houseboats" through the Travel Channel. European TV personality Alex Armstrong visited and filmed "Yellowknife Bay Floating B&B" as part of his ITV series called "Land of the Midnight Sun". The many exciting features of living on the water on a houseboat clearly makes Mo's Houseboat B&B a very unique and interesting way to spend your time in Yellowknife!

Guest access

Main Houseboat Guest Access:

The common living space and your cozy queen bed with an extra warm down duvet, are on the main floor. The owner's private space is upstairs. Use the kitchen for your snacks and drinks and hang out in the common area. The outside top deck is an amazing place to sit and watch the world go by, take amazing photos and generally hang out!

NEW at Mo's! Two fabulous stand alone suites:

If you want all the privacy you can handle, book one of these stand alone suites where you will enjoy your own private entrance and deck, bathroom and kitchen. Take photos of the aurora at your leisure and from the privacy of your own deck. Please check out their separate listings at "Mo's Houseboat B&B: 'Sunrise' or 'Sunset' stand alone suites".

Access to and from your Watery World from either houseboat:

During the summer season after your initial pick up with my power boat from land to the B&B, explore our active bay with the canoe you will be provided with for your own transportation to and from the houseboat. It's about 300 yards to the canoe rest area in Old Town. I will ferry you over with the power boat if the weather's bad. Once at the Government Dock/Warf, you can get back to your car in moments or into your awaiting taxi. Pick up a free parking pass from the Northern Frontier Visitor's Centre. During the winter, simply drive right up to us and park right beside the houseboats. The ice thickens up to 7 feet in the winter and even buses drive on it!

From the airport to the B&B:

Inform your taxi driver to take you to old town. Across from a store called "Just Furs", take the boat launch down onto the ice and follow the orange pylons (traffic cones) straight to the houseboat. See you there~!

Interaction with guests

Since I live on the main houseboat, I will be around to help you out and answer any questions you may have whether you are on the main houseboat, or staying in the Stand Alone rooms.

Perfect place for private aurora viewing! Absolutely no need to book aurora tours! For living, there are special rules. But it's good enough regarding as camping on a frozen lake. No worries about transportation, it's 15 minutes walk to shops and the famous restaurant Bullock's Bistro. Monique is really nice. The houseboat experience is quite unique. All that makes our Aurora trip fascinating. Highly recommend!

Mo is a bundle of energy! She'll settle you right into the house and let you know all the ins and outs of living on a houseboat off-grid. It comes with some unique challenges, but really helps you to understand how life is shaped directly by nature and winter in the north - an experience you wouldn't get anywhere else! The yellow cabin was private and spacious, and also came with its own window perfect for aurora viewing. My only minor issue (unrelated to Mo) is that some taxi drivers were uncertain about the location. My advice is to bing up the coordinates in (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps, and make sure the car sticks to the ice roads on the lake (if you go off track, you risk the car getting stuck in the snow). Also, make sure you get a look at some of Mo's wonderful art before you leave!

We had an amazing stay in the houseboat. It was a pleasant retreat for us since the area is not touristy and we got to enjoy the viewing the aurora privately. Staying on a houseboat added character to our stay in Yellowknife. It was a great learning for us to know how it's like to operate a home off the grid. Breakfast was awesome too and Monique is a great host. She even helped us see the aurora during our stay! I highly recommend staying in her houseboat.

It's quite different experience to live above the water. And Ms. Monquie is positively enthusiasm for what she is doing. Teaching how to survive and sharing a environmentally-friendly life style. Life in her boat-house is absolutely environmentally-friendly. It might make city people feel a little bit strictly, but she would help you out.

This was an absolutely fabulous experience. Monique's houseboat is comfortable, eco-friendly, charming, and the most unique place I have ever stayed. She is passionate about her place and happy to share it with others. Couldn't recommend this more! If you're in YK, you need to stay here.

I am an outgoing, adventurous artist who loves to kayak, hike, just be outside, and to sit on my deck when the sun is shining, surrounded by shimmering water! I love meeting new people and welcome those who are interested in living a truly unique lifestyle even for just a few days. Through my travels, I have welcomed many to my B&B and hope that you will be one of them!
