The space

Macugnaga is a small and discreet mountain village, located at the Monte Rosa Massif slope. This is a unique community because it succeeded in the preservation its natural and architectural beauty. During the summer season it offers a wide variety of hiking trails that will bring you to see beautiful panoramic viewpoint.

This chalet has been renovated by our family in the 1960s and now offers several conforts like a TV, heating system and a modern kitchen. The house is organized on two floors connected by an outdoor escalator. On the ground floor you can find a wide entrance area, the living room, the kitchen and a bathroom. On the upper floor there are four bedrooms (three double/queen beds and one bulk bed) and the second bathroom.
On request we can provide a crib and a baby changing station too.

Macugnaga is 1h 30min travel by car from Milan and only 100km from Malpensa Airport.
On your arrival we will be happy to provide you with some suggestion on the best places to visit, restaurants, hiking trails and activities to better enjoy your stay!

Now this is what a skiing holiday with family and friends should be like: a traditional yet unique house with everything we need. Spacious kitchen, warm living and Well located between skiing area and village main square. Kids (5, 3, 2 years old) had their best holiday ever and eldest took skiing lessons for first time. We certainly want to go back!!! Due to amazing time we extended stay with two days. Snow, nice local people, restaurants, all within reach. Ciao

We booked Fra & Marta chalet for a few days over the Christmas period. We were a group of six adults and two small children and we had a lovely time. Fra and Marta answered our initial questions in a timely manner and the organization for the check in could have not been smoother. At the check in the house was clean and warm. We all, including the kids, liked the house and the fact that there is an external stair (only a few steps to be more precise) to get to the night level upstairs did not create us any problem at all. We all concurred that the pictures do not give full justice to the house and its warm atmosphere. The ski runs in the Pecetto area (Belvedere) are 5-10 minutes walking distance from home and all the necessary things for skiing can be rented there. Near home there is a nice patisserie and some restaurants/hotels. Staffa, 15-20 minutes walking distance, is where it is possible to find some more restaurants and some grocery shops. Pecetto and Staffa are small mountain villages ideal for someone who wants to spend some time in a quiet place.

This chalet is perfect for people wanting to stay somewhere rustic and authentic in Macugnaga. The chalet is very old (over 300 years) and has lots of charm. It also has low ceilings, an outdoor staircase, only one bathroom (URL HIDDEN) other words, it's not modern luxury. But my family + friends loved it. We were 3 adults and 4 kids (aged 6-10) and it suited us fine. The boys took the bunk beds and the girls shared a double bed. We cooked in 3 nights. The kitchen is not fancy but it was well-stocked with everything one could need. The location is OK, halfway between Staffa and Pecetto. There is a bakery very close where you can get pastries for breakfast, but otherwise one needs to drive a few minutes to get to the ski slopes, restaurants, shops, etc. There is no on-site parking. You need to park a hundred meters away at the public car park. But we did not find that to be a major problem. Macugnaga is a small, pretty, authentic Italian village. The ski slopes are divided into two bases. The Belvedere slopes are perfect for beginners, as they are small, gentle and quiet (there are a few short red/black runs). Our kids went into lessons every day and the instructors were fantastic. The Monte Moro slopes suit intermediates well (mostly red runs). The downside is that the two bases are not connected, so it is almost impossible to drop your kids at lessons at Belvedere and then ski at Monte Moro. The Macugnaga restaurants served good quality pasta, pizza and other Italian mountain food (e.g. polenta). Don't expect anything fancy but prices were very reasonable. Fra and Marta were very helpful, meeting us upon arrival and answering any questions we had during the stay.

We've had an excellent stay here although since there had been an enormous dump of snow which caused the electricity in the city to die. But Marta and Fra were both really helpful in keeping us informed and even offered to move us to a nearby hotel. The house is really authentic and really gives you a very welcome feeling! It's probably the best airbnb we've stayed in. The skiing area is small but not really crowded and ideal for skiing with kids.

Grazie e a presto !!!
