Guéthary is a typical Basque village, former whaling port, largely open to the ocean and today, known worldwide by surfers for its different "Spots".
Located 15 km from Bayonne and 15 km from Hendaye, in the center of the Basque Coast, Guéthary enjoys a view of the coast towards the beaches of the Landes and the panorama of the Pyrenees visible to the top of the central chain.
Authentic small village of the Basque Country, with its preserved architecture, Guéthary is considered one of the jewels of the Basque Coast. This fishing village and former whaling port is also well known to surfing enthusiasts for the quality of its waves. The path along the beach from Bidart is dotted with terraces and huts where you can have a drink while admiring the sunset
Parlementia Beach is family-friendly and known to be safe. It's monitored in the summer.
A rocky shoal stops the waves from the sea, which allows small excursions at low tide to observe maritime life, which children love. Please note that the area is protected to preserve animal and plant species. At low tide you can easily walk along the beach to Bidart. A quiet and safe little corner: the harbor beach: fine sand, no waves. The Alcyons beach is a rocky and very typical beach. It is frequented by surfers but many people appreciate it because you can swim there safely. At low tide you can enjoy the rocks. You also have a very nice view of Spain, in good weather you can see the tip of Fontarabie
I have lived in Guéthary for many years. In winter we are about 1300 inhabitants and during the summer the population triples to our great joy because we have contact with very diverse people and we are delighted to share all the local culture with them and to make them enjoy good culinary and tourist tips. Each season I receive couples from all backgrounds and they always leave delighted. Some already knew the Basque Country, others, more and more, are discovering it. I hope I have made you want to discover this village
