There is not enough space to give credit to the rewarding experience we had at Venado Valley Ranch. Meeting Paul and his lovely family was so special, but then being able to not just glimpse the life of a real Costa Rican working farm family, but to be welcomed into that family was an experience we will never forget. More genuine people are hard to come by. This family is the exact reason Airbnb is my first choice when traveling. As far as the particulars of the accommodations; they were much better, cleaner and more quaintly prepared then we anticipated knowing they were above the barn. There was even a fridge, sink, coffee pot and toaster for our personal use, in addition to having all our delicious meals prepared by our host. We were given an itinerary for the duration of our stay so we would not miss the chance to milk cows, see how cheese is made or observe and partake in the other tasks involved in running a working dairy farm. It was made clear, however, that it was a guideline and nothing was mandatory! In all honesty, the experience could have been somewhat awkward due to the language barrier, but in our case an English speaking family friend was there much of the time and it really helped the "getting to know you" process. We also had translate apps which not only helped but gave us all great laughs. Even with the language differences, it was so easy to see the kind-hearted, good-nature and sense of humor of our host family. Vacations are often an extension of us trying to recreate our comfort-zones at home and we wanted to go out of the box and stretch ourselves. It will always be the best part of our trip! An added bonus was that choosing this unique experience afforded us the opportunity to see another part of the country we may not have ventured into. We went to the magical Rio Celeste Waterfall which was incredible and we realized that of all the extensive ground we covered on this 2 1/2 week trip, this splendid area is the one we want to explore more next time around! The great thing is Paul and his host family would be more than willing to tailor a visit to most any need. So if you just need a warm welcoming base of operations to fully enjoy the beautiful hills of Venado, this is definitely a place to consider.

Paul User ProfilePaul is a superhost.

Born and raised in California, in the good old USA. I grew up surrounded by great family and friends and lived the typical California life-style. I spent my free time camping out at the beach, going into Baja Mexico searching for surf, heading to Mammoth Mountain for weekend snowboard trips, running our family boat out to Catalina to fish and dive, summer camp outs in the mountains, mountain biking and hiking in our local mountains and a little trout fishing here and there too. I love to be outdoors and experience nature and that is why I moved to Costa Rica six years ago. I was looking for a new adventure and boy did I find it. I found myself in a beautiful country with so much to offer. Breathtaking views, endless outdoor activities, a great climate and friendly people. All of which led me to my next great adventure.....Parenthood. I met the love of my life and now have two wonderful children. Together, we host guests looking for fun, relaxation and a little adventure here in our little slice of heaven. Everything is available here for outdoor enthusiast. Great hiking and mountain biking, whitewater rafting, zip lines, wake boarding, horseback riding, kayaking, natural hot springs, and all the nature and wildlife Costa Rica is famous for. It truly is our little piece of paradise that we love to share with our guests. You can expect clean accommodations, unique experiences, great views and awesome fresh coffee and fruit in the morning. We have wild birds everywhere and it's not uncommon to have toucans, parakeets or wild turkeys feeding on our banana trees and feeders around the property. Our goal is to give you everything you need to have a great vacation experience. Everything depends on the guest and their needs. Whatever you want to do and experience, we can show you how and where to do it. As they say here, "Anything is possible in Costa Rica"
