Great location

A cozy camping experience on 5 acres with heritage fruit trees & a barrel sauna. The Salty Pear Camping casita is a short walk (10 mins) along provincial park trails into the heart of Ganges, a quaint town which has ample shopping, good food and the famous Saturday Market. Sit on your private deck gazing at field and forest. Lounge in a hammock. Chat with other travellers around the communal camp fire and don't forget to enjoy the complimentary sauna during your stay! Tiny living island style!

The space
Settle into “glamorous camping” with a comfortable queen size bed and high-quality duvet & linens. The frogs will usher you to a restful sleep while bird song and rooster will wake you in the morning. Our 2 Neighbouring Organic farms are the source of your complimentary farm eggs and rotating goodies. The kitchen has running water, a mini fridge, electric kettle, pour-over coffee, toaster oven & propane camp stove. The wood burning campfire pit (for use only when there is no fire-ban) and picnic table help to create the camping vibe. The private kitchen is separate but attached to the bedroom - only the bedroom is heated. Separate bathroom with standard toilet is private. On-demand propane-heated outdoor shower/bath is private. Deck and surrounding pasture is private but on the same acreage as our other rental - the Studio/Suite. Property has all-day sun and there is plenty of pasture to find your spot of relaxation. There is also a wood-burning barrel sauna available for guests - details on how to reserve your session available in house manual once you book.

Guest access
Guests have private access to the rejuvenating, outdoor hot shower & bath. The bathroom is private. Guests have a separate driveway that runs past the main house and studio gallery where we live and work. The casita is private and tucked away from our main house & studio gallery.

Other things to note
The camping casita has a propane-heated outdoor shower & tub only. The cozy bedroom is best suited for a solo traveler, or a couple (or co-sleeping families). If you are traveling with bigger kids we can adjust the price to include a 16' annexed 'Shelter' tent upon availability. Bluetooth stereo provided but no TV.

The essentials (coffee, tea, eggs, milk, granola) for your first breakfasts are provided. Take full advantage of the abundant choices of local organic produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, beer, wines and apple ciders available all over the island for other meals.

Ferry reservations well in advance are highly recommended during summer months.

Not very suitable for the mobility impaired, very small children (depending on the comfort level of the parents), or those adverse to nature! Pets welcome but please consider - the property is not entirely fenced and there are a lot of deer grazing around in mornings and evenings.

The casita is private but it borders on our neighbour's small organic working farm - so especially during the week you may hear farm-operation type noises like a small tractor etc. The kitchen is not heated and is quite small - making the heated Casita room the only proper shelter on a rainy day, which is cozy for those who enjoy tiny living. We can offer a large living-room style Shelter tent for an additional $20 a day if you are traveling with children or would simply prefer more indoor space to spread out and relax.

A short ten minute walk down Rainbow Road leads you straight into Ganges - or - at the back far left of our property that borders along the trees there is a private gate that leads you to the beautiful forest trails of Mouat’s Park. Hang a left and follow the marked trail and it will lead you straight into the heart of Ganges. We have the best of both worlds - a beautiful peaceful countryside spot with a bustling little village within a half kilometre. Across the street is the community pool if you are interested in taking a swim, pool schedules are available online https://www.crd.bc.ca/ssiparc.
Many wonderful food carts available in the food courtyard located at the head of Rainbow Road. The town of Ganges is well known for its robust Tuesday and Saturday Markets (seasonal) full of local artisans and fresh farm & food purveyors. There are a number of great restaurants we would highly recommend (see pg 6), also within walking distance. If you are driving, this island has an absolutely magical amount of things to see & do.

Main amenities in Ganges: two large grocery stores, 3 liquor stores, an excellent health food store, 2 pharmacies, 2 gas stations, hardware stores, a hospital, plenty of art galleries, a pub playing live music, shops and plenty of places to eat. However there are no 24 hour stores.

I worked for years as a Script Supervisor in the Film Industry before having our two daughters and moving with my husband to Salt Spring Island to realize our vision for a more sustainable way of living. My husband, an architect from Brazil, restored the 1938 farmhouse where we live before building the beautiful gallery space that is part of the Salty Pear Farm, Gallery and B&B. We have two available spots on our property - the Camping Casita and Studio where you can stay to enjoy the many wonderful experiences that Salt Spring Island has to offer. We look forward to hosting you!
