Welcome to the Goethert Haus, family home of Dr. BH Goethert, the father of rocket testing at Arnold Engineering and Development Center and a founding organizer for UT Space Institute. Dr. Goethert came to the US in 1947 from Germany and moved to Manchester in 1952. His family followed and built this house in 1955. The open architecture of the living/dining area and the grand wooded backyard make it a wonderful retreat or family accommodation. Best lodging for the money you can find.

The space
This is a roomy and spacious house with lots of natural light. The wooded back yard backs onto the Little Duck River. Often deer move through the yard, and we have feeders that attract wild birds. There are beautiful wood floors throughout the house. The kitchen is ready to prepare any meal, and the two main bedrooms are stocked with cozy blankets and lots of pillows. One bathroom is handicap accessible. The den has an extra bed and sofa, as well as, a 40” smart TV. It is great space to relax after a day of exploring the area. The house is tucked away off the main highway in a quiet and safe neighborhood.

We have professional cleaners to keep the place spotless, using organic cleaners and no pesticides around the place. We recently painted the interior so the house has a fresh clean feel. We have a washer and dryer available for guest use.

Kids under 14 stay free. When you book the place, let us know in a message about your kids under 14. No need to lists them as guests.

I am a poet and adventurer who is okay living in a problem rich world. Favorites places to be are by the ocean, in an old growth forest and wandering a new trail. My heroes are Syrian refugees and their safe haven workers, Eleanor Roosevelt, Zora Neale Hurston, Woody Guthrie and Joni Mitchell. Yes, I am a foodie...I love Masterpiece Theater and my chickens. So grateful to be a modern American woman. "Just keep swimming..." -Dora
