♨ ♨ A full apartment in a quiet, convenient neighborhood. Unusual design elements will make your visit to Eugene memorable, magical, and meaningful. It's a complete apartment, with a Murphy bed, bathroom, kitchenette, sitting and study spaces.

We're close to parks, art & culture, and many good restaurants. You’ll love the high ceilings, open floor plan, great views, and quirky surprises. Couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers are welcome -- for three months or a single night.

The space
We love to design spaces that are not in a box. We want to give our guests an experience that is meaningful and memorable.

We have another space listed here:
Our private roundhouse is slightly less expensive, but with a shared bath.
This space is also available without the first floor dining area, for a little bit less. Look for the aloft apartment.

Let's start with the turret. 14 feet tall in the center, the eight-sided cedar-lined space has windows all around and a large skylight in the center. This opens out to the upstairs deck to catch the summer breeze (or smell the flowers or help yourself to the fresh herbs) or down the spiral staircase to the covered deck beneath, where we have our "spare" kitchen and fridge.

From the turret, you pass through the triclinium, where the glass balusters give you unimpeded view of the trees and view to the south of the house. (We don't offer TV, but you won't miss it.)

Then there's the kitchenette, which has a few surprises of its own. (Don't make us tell you in advance.) All the basics you need are here: oven, microwave, stovetop, sink.

From there we move to the "bedroom" -- a full-size Murphy Bed that folds up into a wall. That doubles as a partition from the rest of the space. Beside that is the bath, with a shower.

Where you’ll be

Eugene, Oregon, United States

Friends refer to our house as "the center of the universe" for good reason. Everything is nearby, yet it's quiet and secluded. The best of everything.

I'm a columnist for the daily newspaper and the town's lifestyle magazine. Decades of work in journalism has taught me to notice the details and to question the conventional wisdom. As a columnist and consultant, people rely on me to "think outside the box." As the former Executive Director for the American Institute of Architect's local chapter, I learned how the details reveal intent. When they work together, you get design excellence, but that's only the beginning. When you stay inside a space that's been carefully and intentionally designed, there's a certain sense of safety and a quiet delight. So here in this little world, these two rigors intersect. I design spaces that are not in a box, giving guests small surprises to make their visit meaningful and memorable. I'm also uniquely qualified to help people learn more about this special place in the world. And I love it.

During your stay

We'll offer as much or as little direction as you prefer. Just let us know. (If we hear nothing, we usually assume you'd prefer to be left alone.)

You may be greeted by our very friendly neighborhood cat, Maceo. He will take no for an answer (eventually), but he missed his calling as a watchdog. If you are allergic, let us know and we'll block the dog door, which is how he usually gets inside.

As a long-time columnist for the daily paper and the local lifestyle magazine, Don has more stories than you'll have time to hear, but he won't force them on you. We usually have couple of magazines on hand that he's written for, so you can get some stories if you want them.
