Cozy, ultra-clean, whisper QUIET .. dog-friendly .. great basecamp for your up-north adventures. Wooded, open space for your dog and private lower level of house suitable for two people. Full bath. Dog friendly. Flannel sheets + down comforters. Owner/artist on site. Surrounded by Brown Bridge Quiet Area; seven miles south of downtown Traverse City; seven miles north of Kingsley off Garfield Road. Lake Arbutus area.
This tranquil Airbnb site is a little off the beaten path--an updated cabin in the woods, perched above Lake Arbutus; surrounded by mature forest and wildlife; great for dog walks.
Suitable for couples or twosomes traveling with pets, visiting NW Michigan for an Interlochen concert or other event and prefer not to stay with relatives.
Guestroom has a queen bed and full bathroom. My guests sleep soundly!
Sorry no tv in room. There is a flight of stairs leading to lower level guestroom.
•• Check-in 4pm .. check-out 11am
•• Unlimited Access to Wifi/internet. Username is Ricks .. password is Arbutus2
•• Guest bedroom is on the lower level of house with a queen bed and full bathroom--for first timers, Airbnb is like staying with your cousin or a friend for a couple of nights. Homey.
•• You are welcome to bring snacks or takeout.
•• Note that there are not many stores or restaurants down this way. Most guests spend the day exploring and dining at the area restaurants.
•• Here's are some of the eateries my guests have enjoyed:
Breakfast: "the Greenhouse" on Front Street (downtown) or "Randy's", a diner on Garfield. "Brew" on Front Street. "Red Spire" at the Commons is excellent.
Lunch: "Folgarelli's" on Front Street for gourmet Italian take out. "Grand Traverse Pie Company" for you guessed it .. cherry pie and other fare. Try the Cherry Rhubarb pie or chicken pot pie.
Lunch / Dinner: "Peegeos" (nearby on High Lake Rd) is the only restaurant in this area south of town. Full menu .. I recommend Mike's excellent Sicilian pizza
Downtown on Front Street : delicious menu at "Amical" .. elegant "Red Ginger" for sushi and atmosphere; always busy .. interesting fusion fare at "Georgina's" .. "Stella's" at the Commons is pricy and considered excellent
•• Willow Vineyards on Hilltop Rd in Suttons Bay (actually a few miles before Suttons Bay proper as you head north on M-22). Like a slice of gorgeous French countryside overlooking West Bay, owned by my dear friends Jo and John.
My guests have given high marks to these wineries on Old Mission Peninsula:
•• Black Star
•• Chateau Chantelle.
Interesting to meet the owners, growers and vintners.
Downtown TC best Breweries + Food :
•• Best handcrafted beer at The Workshop adjacent to Hotel Indigo
•• "Rare Bird Brewpub"
•• North Peak Brewery
•• Three Monks on Union St .. great burgers (downtown)
•• "BREW" on Front Street--coffee, good beer and sandwiches.
•• sushi: Red Ginger on Front Street or "White on Rice" tucked away on 14th St
Find edgy modern art and some of my work at Higher Art Gallery on Union Street. This is where I teach my encaustic (hot wax) painting classes.

Other things to note
Come prepared for warm days + cool evenings during the summer months.
Traverse City has a cool vibe and lots to offer visitors--a classic downtown to explore, unique shops, bookstores, theater, film + cherry festival + equestrian and water events, breweries, wineries and good / great restaurants.
Michiganders love "heading up north" and the Grand Traverse area is a hub of culture, arts and activity in the northwest lower peninsula. The Big, beautiful, blue Grand Traverse bay that flows into Lake Michigan is the dominant feature. Nice beaches. Volleyball courts. Concerts. Kayak and bike rental options
The region has in recent decades become known for the explosion of vineyards that dot the landscape, particularly Lelanau and Old Mission peninsulas while continuing to be major cherry-growing region. Hops growers have paved the way for an increase in excellent micro breweries.
My friends at Willow Vineyards in Suttons Bay will offer you a warm welcome and a little slice of the French countryside. You'll enjoy exploring the miles of Michigan shoreline, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and nearby towns .. Petoskey, Charlevoix, Suttons Bay.
- Mutual respect will make yours a pleasant stay. A clean, arty environment if you need downtime, enjoy nature and prefer being off the grid for a few days. Come and go as you please.

I am a full time visual artist and art instructor working in mixed media and encaustic (wax) painting. I have had a long career as a graphic designer. I like to cook and love a good cup of coffee. I like french wine. I love dogs and wild birds and nature in all its splendor.
