The space

Rustic Beach Cottage on the lower Delaware bay (15 miles south of Dover) . Porch's on both sides provide views of the beach and salt marsh. One bathroom with Shower. It is rustic - low ceilings keeps it cozy. There is a big TV for playing DVD's or VCR tapes. This is more like camping in a cabin vs. staying in a hotel. No A/C, but there are ceiling fans. Neighborhood is small and friendly - only 38 total houses on the island. Pets are allowed. There are no shops - bring your food and drink. The House is right on the beach with a small boardwalk to cross the dunes. Easy to have a bonfire on the beach. Fire wood is available locally.......($22.00 a bundle)

Great hut for getting away from the same old typical hotel room. Nice to experience a new type of amenity!

The fishing shack is really primitive and rugged, which is why I picked it. Great spot on a desolate beach, beautiful sunrises, I really enjoyed staying here. The road to the house does flood quite a bit at high tide, making it impassible at times. Know the tide schedule and you'll be fine.

This was our 4th year visiting and we were just as happy this year as all the others! Just a friendly warning about high tide- the road up the street floods almost every high tide. Its not a big deal, but if you are in a sedan-type car and its your first time seeing this, it might be scary. Just drive slow (dont try to make big waves ) and you'll be fine.

The secluded location is perfect for those seeking down time from too much outside stimulation. Allowing dogs was a bonus for us and our almost 2 year old pup, Otis. It was as much a weekend getaway for him as it was for us. Watching his first time being in the ocean was such a joy for us. Thank you! Water: definitely listen to the other reviews and bring in your own drinking water. Good for cleaning but not the tastiest for drinking. I brought my dog his own supply as well. The ocean is very close and accessible. Low tide is fun for beach combing and dog splashing. Again...listen to the other reviews...water shoes are a must have! Beach is scattered with dead horseshoe's and broken shells and not as pristine as a public beach. This did not bother us since a public beach and a dog running around happily does not mix. This private beach was the best place for us. High tide is true...you can get trapped here during high tide but again not a big deal for us since we were seeking total seclusion. Nice knowing we couldn't leave. The house itself is what the others have (URL HIDDEN) an old put together fishing shack. Not unlike the Pennsylvania hunting cabins my husband has been in so he enjoyed it a lot. I found it very rustic and very clean and comfortable. I tried to keep as much sand out as possible but with a big dog that proved almost impossible and apologize now to Kim and her cleaning crew for the extra vacuuming I'm sure they had to do. The kitchen is small but very adequate. I did bring along some of my own utensils and pans...being burned at other rentals...I'd rather bring then not have. But they had enough that I would have been able to get by with. Although, it is an easy drive into town if any supplies needed. During low tide that is! Lol Sleeping on the other hand was a bit uncomfortable. Cots are adequate but not that comfortable. Someone reviewed it as camping indoors and I agree. I looked at it as an adventure and not a memory I'll soon forget. I'd give the cots a 3 star, for comfort alone, but my over all stay was by far more than I expected and the reason I'm giving it a 5 star. The shower was an adventure. Almost impossible to keep it from soaking the floor. Good luck! The bathroom was very clean and I have no complaints. We loved the back screened in porch so much that we spent most of our time out there eating, sipping drinks and listening to music. Our only wish was some cushioned chairs but other then that it was a perfect spot to relax and listen to the ocean waves especially at night. The retro VHS machine was a total bonus for 80's kids like myself and my husband. The rewind sound itself...

This is our second time here and also the last. Although we love the area. The shack just doesn't deliver. The water smells like rust and its very unpleasant to take a shower. The beds were full of sand and they're very uncomfortable, the DVD/VCR player is broken when I asked the host she just brushed me off by saying "it was acting up last week" she didn't offer to help. The Wifi does not work at all, and most importantly if there is a rain storm, there are leaks every where. We came to the shack after a day at Rehoboth Beach only to find both of my kids Fire wet, luckily there was no damage because the rain was just passing. I took a picture of it by the way just to be safe if they were indeed damaged, (they were both on top of the end table between the coach and the bed). There are leaks throughout the shack. The beach is well "mucky"... and it was not safe to swim the week we were there due to undertreated wastewater that went into the river. And that information was not given to us by the host either, I (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)d just because I was curious about the quality of the water (I'm an environmental scientist who treats water) I was surprised and glad to find this information. I would say this beach is not swimmable wonderful for fishing but not for swimming , you don't see "locals" at the beach, they know better, I guess. I have a feeling the owners are just cashing in before this place falls apart and I think the rate is overpriced. With all of that said, vacation was great and I've never missed my bed so badly before lol glad to be home!
