The space

Stresses of city life melts away in the Rectory of Urval guest house.

Located in the heart of the Périgord Noir, this renovated 18th-century rectory stands close to the 12th-century chruch in the medieval village of Urval. The spot is close enough to Bergerac and tourist-honeypot Sarlat but far enough away to relax with the bucolic views on the hills and the restful garden. On the Saint-Jacques de Comlpostelle way, near Bergerac and Monbazillac wine routes, the place is a stone's throw from swimming and canoeing on the Dordogne river and the perfect basis to explore the Dordogne’s castles and villages. Many local markets are a short amble away.

In the rectory, old meets new. The golden stone house has been completely refurbished. The high quality designer furniture match perfectly well with the carved stone fireplaces. The old house exudes artistic charm with contemporary works of art scattered all over the place. The host is an art lover as well as a wine buff.

Three generous spotless rooms with snowy bed linen are available. In the double room of the first floor, there is an en suite bathroom and a wood burning fireplace. Two standard big-beamed rooms are located on the second floor and shared the bath room with shower. Breakfast is on brioche and home made jams, exotic teas and fine expressos, freshly squeezed orange juice and local products.

So, as you may imagine, the rectory of Urval is among the very special places to stay in Périgord noir !

This was easily one of my best Air B&B experiences. The Rectory is a beautiful place with a lot of history. Breakfast was provided every morning at my convenience and it was delicious. Waking up to the church bells in the morning can be alarming if you had a long night out but it's charming as well. Others who stayed with me slept right through them. The views are breathtaking, and the people are friendly. I'm already trying to figure out when I can return.

Beautiful place to stay - for the aesthetes out there this is a charming old building that has been updated with great modern style. Thierry was incredibly helpful and responsive in the run up to our stay and super welcoming. Highly recommend the picturesque village as a base to explore the area - we were on a short visit for a wedding nearby but would definitely return.

We were made to feel welcome. The place is beautifully presented with views over the countryside but is tucked away and very quiet
