Description

The Space

This is a custom renovated home with attention to detail in euro-style.
The rooms in the apartment are large, have lots of light and wood floors.
One bedroom has a queen size bed, the other two single beds that can be arranged either together or separately. Fresh linens and plenty large towels are provided.
There are two full bathrooms, one on each floor, with open showers.
The Kitchen is fully equipped with high-end appliances and cookware, and stocked with plenty of spices, oils, musli and coffee/tea, ideal if you love eating in.
The study has a large flat screen tv and a daybed that can be set up as an additional bed for an extra person upon request (see extra person pricing).
The heart of the house is the light flooded sunroom, and the terrace that leads to the backyard.

You will enjoy the greenery both indoors and out as well as the company of one self-sufficient orange tabby cat. No litter box maintenance required but you will be asked to kindly fill his bowl daily. He spends most of his time lounging in/-and outdoors, with no access to the bedrooms. Being an outdoor cat, he sheds quite a bit, especially during the warmer season. Please make sure nobody in your party suffers from cat allergies.

Guest Access

This is a private home, brownstone-like, with neighbors on all sides. Guest have exclusive access to the two lower floors and the garden via a separate entrance. There is WIFI an old fashioned radio receiver, a Bose bluetooth speaker and a flatscreenTV.

Interaction with Guests

I love to meet my guests in person when they first arrive. I have found them to be quite interesting and good people.
I also strive to provide prompt help should there be a problem. If you have a question regarding the house or anything else, I gladly respond and try to help.
This said, you will have complete privacy.
Any maintenance/cleaning will always be scheduled in advance.

The Neighbourhood

Red Hook is possibly New York's trendiest waterfront neighborhood. Packed with coffee shops, destination restaurants, neighborhood bars, gorgeous Valentino Pier on the water, weekends at Red Hook Ball fields in the summer and the famous Fairway supermarket, one could easily spend a day of wandering or a week of exploration. Just make sure to try a slice of Steve's Key Lime Pie, Bibimbap brunch at the Good Fork, the outstanding coffee at the Black Swan and more great food and cocktails at Fort Defiance. If you are a meat enthusiast Hometown BBQ is a must and you will find exceptional northern Thai cuisine down the street at Kao Soy. We like to live and eat well in Red Hook :)

This house is located in an area that was flooded during hurricane Sandy, fortunately it was spared damage and local restaurants and businesses are back and flourishing.

Getting Around

Accessible via car, bike, the B61 bus and a water taxi.
Parking is easily available on same block, making it ideal for the motorized visitor.
Please note there is no direct access via subway, however Red Hook is located in close proximity to downtown Brooklyn where all lines into Manhattan are available.
The B61 bus that runs 24/7 towards either Park Slope or downtown Brooklyn. The ride to downtown takes on average 25min, and from there subways to the city take from 15 min to the financial district to about 35 min to the southern end of Central Park.
In addition Ikea, which is located 6 blocks away, has a water taxi that runs to Lower Manhattan (look up Ikea - Red Hook for the current schedule).
The size of NYC is easily underestimated, please allow for sufficient travel time during your visit.
