Lucas has been very kind and flexible, he waited for us when we arrived and accepted a late leave, given the fact that he did not have any incoming guests for the day we left. The house seems like a real summer house used by the family and rented only sporadically. That gives to the house a special allure. The house is only 30 minutes away from the fantastic "Calanques". The only thing that could be considered a problem is that there is only one bathroom, but given the beach nearby, we simply lay on the sand while the first mates where taking a shower. Overall I think is a great house for summer holidays.

Our family of 6 adults arrived on a Saturday afternoon. The address that was provided to us was not the house but rather an apartment. Luckily, a very nice lady in a store next to the apartment called the number that I had for the manager. We did not have a phone that worked in France yet since we had just arrived on a flight from Canada. After some confusion, his brother met us and we had to follow him to the actual location. Apparently the manager Lucas who looks after the house was in Paris. This was an inconvenient process. The real problem with the house was that there was no hot water upstairs. We took more than one cold shower. We managed to get a message to Lucas but his response was that a lady would come the next morning and take a look. Since we only had one day left, still no hot water, we packed up and left. Also, we realize that the home is quite old but they have some serious roof issues. The morning that we packed up and left, it was raining. You could hear the water dripping through to the ceilings and there was obvious water damage on the ceilings. It would also lead me to believe that there was mold with such obvious water problems. This home has a lot of potential but needs some work. It is in a great location right near the port which could be really nice. It was noisy one night when the group playing bocce decided to wrap things up in the wee hours of the morning. Overall, we were really disappointed with our stay. I believe that the hot water issue was serious. This place needs some attention.

La Madrague is the location for a dream family beach house. Quite literally a stone's throw from a sandy beach with shallow water for children's paddling, it is an ideal place for families or friends to gather and feel at home while away from home. Half hidden by foliage, the house peers unassumingly above the leaves. It was once the harbour master's house and outdates all the surrounding buildings. It has been renovated with great sensitivity recently in a way that never overpowers its sense of history as a family home through three generations. There is an extremely peaceful atmosphere here with beautiful sea views from all the 3 bedrooms whose windows are one single pane of glass and open wide so as to connect you to sea and sky. There is a nice smell of newly laid rush carpeting and a smart slate floor in the bathroom. Everything demonstrates a fine aesthetic taste as if perhaps this was a house where artists and writers might have met and discussed ideas over a number of time periods. A mix of objets trouvés, and particular found memories of travels elsewhere, adds to the feeling of an environment cared for and carefully created. The kitchen is tiled in ochre glazed terracotta tiles and every appliance for the discerning cook is here as well as some fine ingredients generously left out and beautiful plates and glasses to eat and drink from. Very comfortable beds, nice bed linen and copious towels all make for a feeling of having arrived to stay with friends who have tried to think of everything you might need while they are away. Outside you can eat while almost on the tiny road in front of the port but hidden from it by all the foliage. And if you did not have a car but just wanted to sit on a beach with only the difficult task of choosing which of the five or six small restaurants along the front of the port a few metres from your door, you might visit for dinner then this is the place for you. There is a food market once a week, also just outside the door, with which to stock up on all types of local very fresh seasonal produce and charcuterie. As Brigitte Bardot sings in her song 'La Madrague' (about her property near St. Tropez but still relevant here): 'Pourtant, je sais bien, l'année prochaine Tout refleurira, nous reviendrons Mais en attendant, je suis en peine de quitter la mer et ma maison.' I am counting the days until I can go back there! So…(URL HIDDEN) now my secret place. Don't tell anyone that I told you about it!
