The space

Our place is a magical beach house with an excellent location in the OBX, five lots back from the beach. It was built in the 1950's and while visiting you may sense the history as "Virginia Dare Shores" subdivision was one of the first developments ever in the OBX. The space can comfortably accommodate 8 guests for most groups yet there is space for up to 9. As an older beach bungalow the years and storms have blessed us with some imperfections and quirks, that's OK though it all adds to the charm and soul of the Magical Bungalow.

In the Winter of 2017 we renovated some of the living space, kitchen and baths. We love the the main living area because it has an open feel with vaulted ceilings that connects to the kitchen and front porch though french doors. On a perfect day, with the windows open, you can feel the refreshing sea breeze pass though the home. When the outside temp does heat up we just installed a new central AC system to keep you cool. There is also BigAss Haiku Fan in the living room that seems like a hypnotic helicopter propeller particularly as the lazy summers evenings drift into night.

The master bedroom is our favorite room to stay when visiting as it has a awesome new "subway" and blue glass tile bath, large 16" rainshower head and a barn door entry.

Our guest love to take advantage of the exterior amenities like the enclosed outdoor shower, rocking chairs, front porch and gas grill! The local flavors and fish of the OBX seem to taste best on the front porch just around twilight.

Guest access

Guests have access to the entire home. The ground level of the bungalow is storage and a garage.

Interaction with guests

We are available fastest via text and phone. If for some reason we are not in town, we have great local contacts to help!

The neighbourhood

The property is located in the Virginia Dare Shores subdivision ("between the highways") of Kill Devil Hills, one of the first subdivisions platted on the northern Outer Banks around 1927. We are 5 lots back form the beach on a rare street with some of the ONLY public street parking in KDH.

It is about a 50 yard walk to Hayman Public Beach Access. It is possible to walk to many restaurants, the Avalon Pier and stores.

The neighborhood is a mix of vacationers, folks with second homes and full time residents.

During the right times of the year, sea turtles do nest in the beach out front, you can find large shells (like Whelks) and the surfing in the area can be epic at times! The OBX is known as the east coast "Wave Magnet."

The sunset on the Sound side can be awesome and Hayman Park is just on the other side of Croatan Highway.

Getting around

Depending on your preferences there are many options to explore the OBX.

Bicycle (there is a rental shop on our street)
Uber or Lyft

Other things to note

***We do kindly ask that all potential guests read the entire description before requesting to book***

We love our OBX bungalow, its a great house yet, like mosts homes it is not perfect and not for everyone. We respect that folks have different preferences and worldviews. If your looking for a unique place and local experience in a great beach town to relax, spend time with loved ones, chill out, cook and rest your head after the beach then the bungalow checks all the boxes.

STOP! Reading later reviews than this one will not give an accurate impression of the Bungalow. Michael and Maria did a serious upgrade on the upstairs - kitchen was all new. I think the whole upstairs must've been remodeled. The master bath was very nice - rain shower - awesome rolling door. I think previous reviews might not paint a fair impression. The downstairs bedroom/bath are still in need of a face lift, but my family of six was quite content and had plenty of space/beds and we stayed in the upstairs alone. I felt like we got great value out of the upstairs. Michael and Maria are super responsive and very, very accommodating. We went in the offseason, beach access is right at the end of the block and because of the time of the year was very quiet. I imagine once Summers is in full swing, it is a different story. Great places to eat all round - if you are into juices and good salads try the Outer Bean, just down the road.

My first time to the Outer Banks and how fortunate I was to call the Magical Bungalow home for several days! Location is excellent, the house is stocked with all necessary amenities. It is clean and comfortable. Our host was easily reachable by phone and courteously checked in with us to ensure our comfort; check in was seamless! Bikes were a nice perk, as were scented candles and the outdoor shower.

The bungalow was perfect for a large group getaway to the outer banks. The view of the ocean from the porch swing while sipping my morning coffee will be forever in the back of my mind. The house was clean and tidy, and while we heard mosquitos and bugs could be an issue in the outer banks, we had no issues (we brought citronella candles and didnt even use them). Will definately look to rent the bungalow again should I find myself back in obx to catch some surf. Thanks again for the hospitality, Michael!

Response from Michael:
Thanks Kevin, glad you guys scored some good looking hurricane swell in the OBX - when its firing there is no other place I would rather be in the world. See you on the next swell!

Our host Michael was very helpful texting me the day of arrival and the next day just to make sure everything was good. The house was just as described, not perfect but comfortable and relaxing. The location is awesome with the beach a two minute walk away.

I am a active and curious person that loves to travel, enjoy surfing, live by the beach and learn. I think there is something magical about being in coastal regions so I like to spend a lot of my time there. I hope you do to!

With interest in coastal living and experience in real estate investing, my girlfriend, Maria - who helps host, and I decided to get ourselves into a project. We decided to renovate a bungalow in the Outer Banks of North Carolina to restore its beauty and charm. We knew we would spend time there with our family and friends, because we love the area, but did not realize how much our guests would like it or the impact it could have for them.

We have had so much fun and become very passionate about creating outstanding guest stays, unique experiences and making more of an impact. Since our first bungalow we have grown to cover both coasts and add more places to stay.

My favorite time of year in the OBX is the fall when the weather is beautiful, the fishing is great, crowds are down and the surfs up.

As a host: I am super easy going, I do travel a lot for work yet do have great people to help.

As a guest: Super laid back and low maintenance

Favorite Destinations: California, Baja Mexico, Guancaste Costa Rica, Spain, Peru, Long Island NY, Outer Banks NC, San Diego.

Things I could not live without:
1. Good friends and family relationships
2. A beach house, grill, fireplace and surfboards
