You’ll love my place for its atmosphere, uniqueness and wonderful location.

Its has an air of creativity and love, with a cosy natural feel.
There are beautiful views of the hills and forests leading to Dartmoor, with its wild ponies, and bouldering for climbers. There are rivers and beaches nearby for wild swimming, and Neolithic stone circles, for those interested in archaeology. Totnes is a bustling Market town, and famous for being the 'alternative capital' of the South West.

The space

The hut is off grid, so you will have a taste of what living simply and close to nature is like, but still enjoy having the luxury and comfort of my hut. Hopefully you'll be inspired and go away with an experience of living off-grid, and a greater appreciation for nature, and what we take often for granted in this modern and busy world.
The woodwork is beautiful and the whole dwelling is uniquely crafted using only natural paints and materials so as to minimise anything harmful to both the environment and the people living in it.

Guest access

There is near by parking in front of the main house 3 minutes walk from the hut.

Interaction with guests

Not too often, unless they contact me. I will leave then to enjoy the privacy of there stay.

Other things to note

The toilets are compost ones and about 2 minutes from the hut, the shower is attached to the hut itself but positioned out side, with some screening for extra privacy and to act as a wind barrier.

- This is a building made of wood so guest must be very aware of fire risks.

House Rules:

No smoking, candles or fire hazards at all. Keep the fire door firmly shut and never leave cooking unattended. Please turn off the water heater when leaving the building.

No parties, or additional people staying with out checking with me first.

Be respectful of the environment, minimal or no use of chemicals as the water is untreated. Please use environmentally friendly cleaning products supplied.

Repare, replace or fix anything that gets damaged during your stay.

Property quirks:
The draining board is not totally water tight around the edges and butts up to wood, so I would be grateful if water could be sponged away as much as possible.

Similarly between the work-top and the tiles at the back, (that run along the window sill) there is a tiny gap that liquid and spills can run down. So be sure the clear up on the first shelf behind the draws.

When cooking it's advisable to open the window as long as it's not raining.
The port hole at the back is authentic vintage one, and is the only single glazed window in the building.
This means that when its steamy or hot inside and cold out, water condenses easily, please wipe this away as it will run onto the bed and make it and the back wall damp.

The main kitchen window wedges a bit, so the right hand pain needs holding in before opening the left side. Be carful to close in the same order.

The property is thoroughly checked before and after. So if anything is damaged its easiest to let me know and settle it after your stay. I'll always do my best to organise repairs and replacements as reasonably as possible.

Please help yourself to small amounts of condiments and herbs if you desire. But please be carful just to nip off just a few leaves from the herb plants as I'm trying to grow them.

I would be grateful if you can leave the place in a good order and dirty laundry in a pile on the floor.

If you discover any pests please let me know ASAP.

Also if you find that you have a contagious or infectious illness, please let me know, as I will get the place professionally cleaned and sterilised.

On a more decadent note should you find yourself dry and want a drink please just help yourself and then replace it or repay me.

This shepherds hut is rented on a trust basis. Anything that may happen during your stay, is fine as long as you let me know so I can make the necessary adjustments, and don't have to use the deposit.

Willow was a great hostess, and the 'Tiny House' was charming and very well put together. Concerns about getting cold at night were unfounded, as the property is well insulated and detailed, with good air-tightness stopping any draughts (despite the howling wind outside). I wouldn't be surprised to find myself back for another stay in the future - Thanks!

This hut is gorgeous especially when you get the fire going! It had everything we needed. It was cosy and perfect for what we wanted. The shower block and toilets were the cleanest ones I have ever seen and the shower what hot and powerful. We were able to take our pup too (he took a liking to the rugs so we folded them up and put them out of the way) The cooker was great and the kitchen had everything we needed. The steps/ladder was a bit hairy knowing it’s not attached but I was soon confident using it as had no issues. Originally we had planned to go away in our camper but the camper had other ideas, I messaged Willow at 3pm and by 5pm I was booked in. It was all so last min but willow didn’t mind and even had a fire built ready for us to light so we didn’t have to tackle with it on our late arrival. Also listen to her recommendations ... I couldn’t remember where she said to go and we went to Paignton ... don’t go there!!! It’s rubbish!! I wish we had gone where willow suggested. If you like fishing towns then we liked Brixham. We highly recommend a stay here and I challenge you to find Willows story in one of the books it makes for an interesting read Enjoy your stay

Response from Willow:
Dear Laura, It was a real pleasure to have you. Thank you for taking such good car of the place. It looked beautifully tidy on my return. Thank you for all you feed back and will certainly make some adjustments the power is thin thing I've been thinking about trying to get boosted. The fundamental issue is that in winter there are so little solar rays that the batteries don't get charged much. Ive been thinking about putting up a little wind turbine to keep it truly eco and off grid. I should have mentioned that there is a back up extension cable that can go to the power point mounted on the fence next to the hut. Always happy to answer any questions on the phone. Warm regards, how to see you again another time. P.S. the place I recommended is 'Hope cove' or Bantham beach.

We really enjoyed staying at the hut. Willow is a great host and made us feel at home. The Dartington estate where the hut is located is really beautiful and there is tons to see and do in the area and a half hour walk to Totnes.

We had such a wonderful time in this cute little hut. Willow came all the way to the train station to drive us there, even stopping past the local shop to get supplies. Full of recommendations and tips of the local area too. A real hidden gem. So glad we had this wonderful experience.

We really enjoyed ourselves at Willow's shepherd's hut. It was definitely a unique experience. The hut is beautifully decorated and having an entire field to ourselves was magic. We were the first guests at Willow's place so there were a few things that needed improving. The big drawback for us was the lack of toilet at the hut. We had to use the neighbour's toilet which was a bit of a trek away and involved climbing a fence. For this reason, we felt the hut was quite over priced. There is also a £250 security deposit which is in addition to what you pay when you book the hut.
