This place is amazing... spacious, comfy bed, amazing scones and wonderful hosts. Felt like we were staying with friends. We will be back next fall when we visit family again... this time we are excited to try the banana bread and take a tour with John of the Ruby Mountains. Thanks Janice and John, see you next year!!

Janice and John are wonderful hosts: very friendly, fun and accommodating. We arrived late at night and they set out delicious fresh scones for our breakfast. Also provided coffee, tea, sugar etc. The apartment is quite large and was very comfortable for our group of five. The kitchen has full-size refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher. The rooms are thoughtfully decorated in an eclectic, "Cowboy Poet" theme. The front door opens on to a sitting area with a table and chairs, firepit and BBQ. Although not far from the main road, the atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. The location is perfect, about halfway between Elko (restaurants, grocery stores and casinos) and the Ruby Mountains (fantastic hiking!). Overall a great stay. Thank you Janice and John!

Thanks for the really nice and thorough review, Thomas, and the hint about the door. Good idea to do something about that. Really enjoyed having you!

Easily one of my favorite AirBnbs that I've stayed at and I say that not due to any luxury design or extravagant get-away. I say it due to John and Janice, two amazing human beings, to their unique and well decorated home on the range, and to the beautiful scenery near by. John and Janice are two of the kindest, most earnest, and sincere AirBnb hosts you will ever meet. They had great nearby recommendations, interesting history on the area, and a perfect spot for resting and reflecting. I only had a one night stay due to a roadtrip I was on but sure wish I could've stayed longer! A great spot for photographers, thinkers, relaxers, and explorers alike! Cannot recommend this place enough!

Response from Janice:
Matt, thanks for your gracious comments. I think I do hear a writer here--well phrased. I want to hear about your book..... I just checked the BnB and it is rented, but check with us. Maybe we can work something out if you do decide to come.

Janice's was nice and spacious, plenty of room for our adult family of five. Very accommodating and gracious hosts. The King size bed slept awesome and we absolutely loved visiting the beautiful Ruby Mountains. This area is where cowboy or outdoor enthusiast meets dessert and mountains. They don't look appealing from the valley floor but the color, texture and diversity was impressive. We were there the end of August when the tips of the trees were just beginning to turn. When you drive to the end, take a hike along the creek in the wild mountain side, perfect for packing a lunch with easy accessible trails, even for young children. The beaver damn was huge. The geographical history amazing to see. We wished we had a whole day for the Rubies instead of just a few hours. A must see. Will be back.

Jeanette, sorry about the problems with the shower; we are correcting it. I'm glad you mentioned the issues so we could work on them. Thanks, Janice

John and I have lived in northern Nevada for over 30 years. John moved here when a young boy and spent summers working on a remote cattle ranch. He sold life insurance for the MassMutual Life Insurance Company, and ten years ago started a touring business, Cowboy John Tours LLC. He tours prospective employees for local businesses, tours guests, facilitates the "Ranch Tour" workshop for the National Cowboy Gathering, and shuttles folks to hike the Crest Trail in the Ruby Mountains only about 20 minutes from our house and BNB.

We both love to hike and explore northern Nevada, and John enjoys fly fishing and riding horses. Janice loves hiking and identifying wild flowers in the Ruby Mountains. We travel to Ecuador when we can where our newest grandson lives. When you stay with us you'll notice rugs and alpaca blankets Elan's parents Loni and Greg have given us from Ecuador.
Many stop at the Bunkhouse on their way to and from Yellowstone, Tetons, or San Francisco, and we love to meet them, but we're especially delighted when some stay for the experience we offer of northeastern Nevada: open space, quiet, robin-egg blue sky, fishing, hiking in the Ruby Mountains, viewing wild horses, cross-country skiing and snow mobile trips in winter.
We love it when guests make us a DESTINATION, and we go out of our way to show them what the high desert has to offer.

Also we can safely store your recreational equipment on site for a small fee, $20. Snow mobiles, bicycles, ATVs, trailers. What fun equipment will you be bringing when you stay with us? Feel free to leave it here while you explore Elko or go out for dinner in the evening.

I'll send detailed directions to our place a few days before you arrive, or you may input our address, 2030 Kennedy Ave, Spring Creek, NV, into your GPS.
