Our place is right on The Gulkana River. You’ll love our sauna, skiing, and 77-acre homestead. We are off the grid (no electricity), but have a sink, wood stove (we start for you), clean outhouse (no indoor toilet) and plenty of water that we haul for you. Outdoor shower is very rustic. Gulkana River Ranch is a haven for those wishing to be close to nature and experience bush Alaska as it used to be. Mod cons quite limited: Instagram-worthy photos plentiful:) Adventure awaits the hearty soul!

The space
The cabin is about a half mile from us by private road. You have no neighbors. You can hike to our house easily via steep ridge if you wish. It is about a quarter mile hike and a scenic view of the valley, river and mountains.

Guest access
You have the entire cabin--2 bedrooms, loft, kitchen/living area, screened front porch, picnic and fire pit area, private fishing access during fishing season (reds usually best in late August/early September). Unfortunately, our road caved in three years ago so the only access is a narrow and somewhat steep footpath with mountain and river views. I have backpacks you can use and can help you haul your gear to cabin if needed.

Other things to note
Please drive carefully on the road to the cabin. It is accessible by all cars, but a very "Alaskan" road (maintained by us). Think Denali Highway or McCarthy Road... Also, the road gets slippery if we have a huge rainfall. We are happy to take you down the hill on our 6-wheeler if this happens, just let us know. For hikers, we have a short (about 400m) , beautiful walking path to the cabin as well. Please note that Alaska in general and our area in particular has seen more bear activity than normal. Bear spray is provided at the cabin on a hook to the left of the shower. Please take precautions such as being loud and keeping your area clean (food sealed).

Neighbourhood highlights

Our neighborhood is unique in that it isn't really a neighborhood by standard definition. We are close enough if you need us, but far enough to give you space. The closest neighbor to our house is about a quarter mile away.

My work: Copper Basin Child Advocacy Center, Coach, Music Teacher
Lives in Gakona, Alaska
I am a lifelong Alaskan who loves to talk about great adventures travelers can take throughout Alaska. I work part-time at at a Child Advocacy Center, coach Cross-country and Track, am an Airbnb host:), teach music and enjoy musical performances with my husband and our five children in Alaska and the States. We give mini concerts on request--mostly cello rock and opera but a couple genres in between:) My husband coaches wrestling and teaches at Glennallen High School. We travel whenever possible (New York City, Alabama (work) Seattle and Maui (play:) this year) and find meeting other people and exploring the local culture through relationships to be the richest aspect of travel. Because we can't travel as much as we'd like, being Airbnb hosts is the next best thing as we get to learn about other places through people.
