“A perfect cottage experience in the woods.”
This place is beautiful and an amazing choice if you want to spend a relaxing weekend close to nature. Love the fact that dogs are allowed. At night enjoy the hot tub and fire pit.
Louise is a thoughtful, caring host who did everything possible to make sure we were comfortable during our stay. Sitting in the hot tub surrounded by serene forest, alongside a pretty creek made for a relaxing break from city life.
Our kids had a great time in the river.

The space
Riverside cottage deep in the woods. Escape and enjoy nature. Comfy, spacious cottage for groups of friends, families or a couple looking for a quiet getaway.

In summer swim or fish on the rocky bottom river, relax under the shady vines on the pergola, or play in the garden.

The Trent Waterway is minutes away. There is boat launch 5 min down the road to hundreds of miles of lake water. Bring your boat or water toys.

Pets welcome. Limit two dogs, request will be considered for third.
Firepit year round
Skidoo, snowshoe, cross-country ski or just relax in front of the fireplace.

In the winter, there are hills to slide down, trails to cross country ski, hike or snowshoe. This area has many groomed snowmobile trails. There is plenty of room to park trailers for snowmobiles and ATV's.

Within 15 min drive there is a sandy beach with shallow water.
Shopping is close by with in 10 min drive to Bobcaygeon or Buckhorn.

The Space

This is a simple cottage in a rural setting. I don't use pesticides other than insect repellent applied to the skin. The only time of the year that there are no insects in and around the cottage is during the winter. There are screens on all the windows, but the little chaps are clever and sneak in when the doors open. Before each guest's stay the rooms are swept, and damp mopped, carpets vacuumed, bedding changed. Despite this effort, there is no way to exclude all insects without using toxic chemicals. Dirt roads mean there will be some dust.

There is a full sized fridge in the open plan kitchen and a fully equipped kitchen, including microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee maker. .

There is a TV and a DVD player. HDMI and USB connection.

NO CABLE, NO NETFLIX.

Your cellphone internet will work

Wifi is via satellite

The water is pulled from the river and it is filtered and UV treated but still has a little bit of colour. You may prefer to bring bottled water for drinking. During summer storms there may be power failures. Flashlights will be available for your use.

The lower level of the home is naturally cool even during the hottest days. Fans are available.

Being close to the water, there are mosquitos at dawn and dusk, please bring insect repellent.

Please bring your own towels. I will provide kitchen towels, dish soap and garbage bags. Garbage must kept protected from animals, I will show you where excess trash is kept.

A fire pit is available for your use. I have firewood for sale $30 for the weekend supply, or you can purchase at most local gas stations.

If you bring your dog, keep keep the dog under control at all times. Dog poo must be picked up. Limit of two dogs. I may consider a third, please message me. If you plan to leave your pet unattended in the cottage, they must be crated.

Guest Expectations

Each airnb offers a unique accommodation. I am offering a basic comfortable family cottage on a little river. It is not a hotel. Rural living means that there are far fewer services available then when you live in a big city. Between the trees, rocks, hills and valleys, internet service is poor, there is no cable tv.

Basic amenities
I provide fully made beds with pillows and duvet’s. There is shampoo, body wash and soap in the bathroom. Also, plenty of toilet paper. I also provide bathrobes and flip flops for your use.

The kitchen
Is fully equipped for cooking family meals. Dish soap, tea towels, dish cloths, paper towels and garbage bags are provided. The BBQ is ready for you to use, I provide propane.

The air-mattress is queen sized. This can be set up in the living area. Mattress can be taken up during the day, leant against the wall.

The crib listed is a pack&play.

Sheltered outdoor dining area.

Hot tub, bathrobes and flip flops
If you do you forget an item, I will help you.

The cottage is spacious, approx 1,200 sq feet with bath/shower separate from toilet/vanity. All bedrooms have closets.
A Propane BBQ is available for your use.u

I live upstairs with my companion Winnie, a 5 year old corgi. You may see her swimming in the river.

Guest access
Guests have sole, private access to the entire lower level of the cottage, which is approx 1,200 sq feet. Entry to the main floor is via your own private door or walk out patio door facing the river. There are three large bedrooms, shower/tub and toilet/vanity. Fully equipped kitchen, and large family room with propane fireplace. You will have full access to the hot tub, garden, river and pergola.

I live on the upper level. This is not an Airbnb where the Host and Guest spent time together. It’s not that I’m antisocial, it’s just that I have health issues which mean I can’t be upright for long periods of time, and have my own activities which keep me fully occupied. You may see me pottering about the garden, or taking a dip in the river. I don’t use the hot tub when guests are here. Consider me a friendly neighbour.

Our interactions are based on your needs.

Other things to note
My cell phone DOES NOT accept Text messages. You must call me. Please leave a voice mail if I don't answer, I will respond as soon as possible.

Children under age 16 must be under direct adult supervision during your stay.

No smoking is allowed inside or within 20 feet of the building. If you do smoke, please discard all materials in the provided container.

If you bring your dog, please ensure it's safety by keeping the dog under control at all times. Dog poo must be picked up. Limit of two dogs. I may consider a third, please message me. If you plan to leave your pet unattended in the cottage, they must be crated.

THERE WILL BE SOME DUST, THE COTTAGE IS ON A DIRT ROAD
THERE WILL BE BUGS, it's part of being in the deep woods by the river in the country.

Security camera present, exterior focused on driveway

The stars are magnificent here as there is no light pollution.
Bring your boat and water toys!
For families with kids there is a small sandy beach with shallow water about 15 min away.
The towns of Bobcaygeon and Buckhorn are 10 min away for shopping. There are many local attractions, restaurants and best of all Kawartha Dairy.
Fishing is good here. Both from the shore of the river near the marina or out in the lake.

There is an assortment of board games, crayons, paper, and craft supplies for your use.
Books sharing: there is a wide variety of books for your use. If you find a book or three you'd like to take home, please do so.

I live in an astoundingly beautiful place. When people ask me where I live, I tell them in the trees. I've always loved trees. My other love is water. After a long day at work, I'm an RN, providing home care in our village, collapsing in the couch in front of glowing fire, helps me wind down. Add a glass of wine, a good book and I'm good. I love to cook, make preserves and recreate medieval recipes. My other hobbies are bookbinding, historic re-enactment,and photography. Our family has lived here for over fifty years. My home is way too large for me. It's on two levels, the main floor was set up as a separate apartment, many know this as an in-law suite. Our large family found it great to be able to live together, but still have our own private space. Now that my nieces and nephew have moved on to their own homes in distant places, I want to share the beauty, and also help pay the bills. I love to travel and have stayed in hostels, B&B's and self-catering apartments. I prefer the last option as I'm not chatty first thing in the morning, and like to muck about cooking and that's not a good when others want to get into the kitchen. I'm offering the use of the main floor private apartment to my guests. I'm a busy woman and while I'm keen to assist you during your stay, I hope we will be able to function as friendly neighbours. If you forgot something, please feel free to ask, but don't expect me to be "dropping in". My work day is not one that allows me to check email or the website until I get home. I'm sure you will appreciate that a nurse can't be online and providing care to sick people at the same time.

During your stay
I want your stay to be enjoyable and have done my best to anticipate your needs and prepare the cottage for your stay. However, there may be something that needs correcting. If so, please tell me as soon as possible so I can resolve the problem.

I live on the upper level of the cottage with my own separate entrance. I am available when home from work to offer you assistance. My brother lives a few km away, and his phone number will be given to you in case I'm not here. Interaction with guests is set by your needs.
