This large one bedroom unit is ideally located within an easy walk to The Esplanade, Cairns City and Cairns Central. It is also located close to restaurants and shops. Located in an older Queenslander, don't be fooled by the exterior - we have renovated the inside beautifully. It is a great affordable property for your stay in our beautiful city of Cairns. Best of all you can bring your furry friends along for the visit!!

The space
The apartment is located on Sheridan Street in a two storey Queenslander. The property is a Queenslander that was built in the 1940s and has been converted to individual apartments. There are 8 in total in the complex - four on the ground floor and four on the first level. Being a Queenslander it is not a sound proof as new concrete buildings, nor is it as cool.

Ramon and myself are the owners of the entire block and over the years we have tried to upgrade the property to bring it up to a good standard. This is a work in progress and we are constantly upgrading when we can. We are offering good quality accommodation at a budget price. Inside we have tried to make it as nice as possible for our guests, and compensate with the nice extras we provide.

MORE ABOUT THE APARTMENT

We have recently renovated inside and the photos don’t do it justice. It is a really nice, clean apartment and perfect for your stay. It is fully tiled through out, including the bedroom. There is new furniture and a fully tiled wet area (bathroom). We also have a functional kitchen with a full size upright gas oven as well as a large fridge/freezer. We do provide a washing machine, but not a dryer. We have put lots of photos on so you can see the property internally and externally - it is a great, affordable property that is within an easy walk to the City Centre.

This unit is located on the first level up at the back of the building. Although it is to the rear of the building, as we are located on Sheridan Street, which is the main street, you may hear some road noise during your stay. There are louvre windows and when these are closed it is not as noisy - we have never had any issues staying there personally.

You get to use the entire one bedroom unit for your stay.

WHAT IS IN THE APARTMENT

The property comes come self contained and we provide linen to the bedS, and towels for all guests. The kitchen is self contained with everything down to the wine glasses.

To make your stay a little bit nicer, we do provide some extras. In the shower you will find shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. There is hand wash at both the kitchen and vanity. We provide the essentials like toilet paper, paper towels, aluminium foil, plastic wrap etc. There is a large fridge and freezer for you to use, a full cooking facility as well as a microwave. The unit does come with a washing machine, but no dryer. There are plenty of washing lines to the rear of the property for you to use. There is a television so you can watch all the free to air channels

We also have unlimited internet at the property. You will receive the wifi details with your arrival message. You and your guests can use this during your stay.

In the fridge you will find some basics to make your stay nice – we have tea, coffee, milk and sugar – we have a nice variety of teas as well as herbal teas. In the fridge you will find a variety of jams, peanut butter and of course the all Australian VEGEMITE!! There is tomato sauce, salt and pepper as well as oil and vinegar. Best of all we also leave you a packet of our famous Australian Tim Tam biscuits – you need to research Tim Tam Slam and see how to best enjoy these classic Australian biscuits. We do not provide breakfast with in the booking.

HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN STAY?

This property is a one bedroom unit and there is one queen bed in the bedroom and one single daybed in the living room – ideal for three guests. We know that there are some larger groups that want to stay. There is also a three seater sofa in the living area as well as the daybed. This can be slept on if required but it is not recommended long term or for very tall people! We do not provide linen for the sofas.

We do allow for extra guests to stay at our properties, but need to stress there are beds for just three people. If you are looking for a budget way to travel in a larger group – this is ideal.

We do provide good quality linen to the beds, a quilt cover and pillows to all beds. There will be a towel for each paying guest provided, as well as hand towels. Please note we do not provide beach towels.

KEEPING COOL IN CAIRNS

We do live in the wet tropics and being hot and humid is part of daily life. Our winters are cooler, but during the day they are still warm enough to wear shorts and a tshirt.

In the property you will find ceiling fans in the living area as well as the bedroom. To help keep cool, I suggest you turn the fans on – this will circulate the air around and help keep you cool.

There is a large air conditioning unit for you to use during your stay. If you have this set at 25 degrees, this will keep the property cool but still be efficient. Part of offering affordable accommodation is asking our guests to turn off the air conditioners when they aren’t home. There is no issue with using the air conditioners when at home.

As our minimum temperature – even in winter rarely dips below 20 degrees, we provide linen to the beds, and a quilt cover. There are no blankets or quilts in the apartment – keeping cool is our problem not keeping warm!!

I do need to stress that this property is an older property and it is not as cool as many modern properties. We have tried to provide sufficient air conditioning to make your stay comfortable.

PARKING

Cairns is still a large Country town in many respects. Fortunately there is only timed and paid for parking right in the middle of the City. At Sheridan Street there is plenty of parking on the street right outside the complex. You can park there for free.

Alternatively you can bring the car around the back of the complex, by driving down the side of the building. There is a large open area and you may park any where. Again it is free to park and not timed.


WHAT TO DO IN CAIRNS?

Cairns has so much to see and do – it has something for every one. From diving to the Great Barrier Reef, to the award winning Sky Rail up to Kuranda, to snorkelling at Fitzroy Island or just having a swim at the Lagoon. I have created a guest book within Airbnb. Once you book you will have full access to this. I have put in lots of tours to do, supermarkets, restaurants and points of interest.

The list of things to do in Cairns really is incredible. If you have questions about any tours, please just ask and I will do my best to help you.

PET FRIENDLY - WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

One of the reasons we started doing Airbnb is because of the lack of pet friendly accommodation in the area. The definition of pet friendly varies – for us it means they can come inside and they can be part of your holiday here in Cairns. We do not expect our dogs to sleep outside – so if your pets live inside with you, that is fine.

If you wish to travel with your pet, we do need to approve this first. Please don't turn up with a pet without asking us first.

Our rules for having pets with you:-
1. Please keep them off the furniture (most importantly the bed linen as this is laundered by an external company who request this).
2. Bag and dispose of all poops responsibly and quickly
3. They are on a lead or contained when in common areas.
4. If your pet sheds their fur a lot we do also ask if you can please keep on top of the fur in order not to hold up the cleaning team at vacate time. They do have a tight schedule and extra time wiping fur or picking up poops may incur an additional cleaning fee.

One of the most important things to us is to provide a really clean property for our guests to stay at. A thorough clean is performed between guests, and to maintain the standard we need to have the check out time at 10am and the check in time as 2pm.

We have a lock box on site for the apartment – meaning you can arrive at any time without the need for us to meet you on site. Details of the property and how to access the lock box will be sent to you the day before your arrival. You will be provided with two keys for you to use during your stay.

HOUSE RULES

This property is not a hotel and we do not provide daily service.

We ask that you respect the neighbours and keep the noise down to a minimum after 10pm

Please do not smoke inside the units – smoking is permitted outside. There is a gazebo around the back of the property for you to use.

If there is any maintenance, or if an items is accidently broken – please let us know so we can repair or replace it.

Dispose of ALL rubbish in the apartment, including emptying the bins prior to your departure.

Please turn off the air conditioning when leaving the property.

Cairns is a young, vibrant town and it is the perfect place to let your hair down and have a great time. We just ask that you don’t bring the party home. If there is an issue with any guest being too noisy, it is important that we are informed immediately. We will do our best to resolve the issue – even if it is late at night. Please message me as soon as there are any issues.

When we looked at doing holiday accommodation we realized there is an absolute need for pet friendly - there just aren't that many places that we could take our furry family on holidays with us. For us having them on the couch watching TV is just part of life, so we want to do the same on holidays.
