Explore ancient Anuradhapura by bike, using this farmer’s home stay as your base camp.

Price is per double room and there are two rooms available. For reviews, please checkout the primary listing page.

The space

Located amidst the paddy fields and just a few minutes from old Anuradhapura town lies Geethika’s, a simple family farmhouse with two double rooms, a common living room and simple but functional sanitation with squat toilet. No luxury in that sense, but where else can you sit in the shade of a mango tree and hear the monks chanting in nearby Sandahiruseve temple?

Interaction with guests

A real farmer’s homestay this is, hosted by Ms. Geethika and Mr. Jayathilaka (and their little daughter), who work the 10 acres of paddy fields that surround the house while running a little spice business on the side. Geethika prepares fresh made meals upon request and Jayathilaka can arrange tours around Aruradhapura, as well as show you around the farm. They have a tuktuk and two bikes for rent, so transportation should be easy.

It's a great place if you want to see stars. It's near Thissa Wewa lake (relatively) and Ismuruniya temple (relatively). The price seems a bit high in comparison to guesthouses in the area. The shower is outdoors with walls of corrugated zinc - this might be too exposed for some, though the family themselves always give you your space. Our host was very helpful and nice.

Really lovely little place, a little way from it all but still close enough to get to everything easily, especially using the bikes available for hire (highly recommended). Very nice home cooked Sri Lankan food. Funny, curious children and very friendly & helpful host. Highly recommended for a more interesting stay, loved the shower at night.

Neverbeen User Profile

Neverbeen offers a wide variety of rare homes off the beaten track, from fisherman's huts and tree houses to heritage homes and tea estates. Our team hand-picks and visits every home and meet all hosts to make ensure guests have a positively memorable stay in places they've never been.

We provide travellers and home owners in challenging locations with access to one another, by offering communication services, online marketing services and tourism training, so that locals can make a living off their home and travellers can get to stay in places they have never been.

As such, Neverbeen works for a world in which everyone has the chance to earn income by renting out their home, regardless of language, internet access and tourism experience.

In Sri Lanka, Dishan manages our growing group of homes in cooperation with our scouts, while Rohan creates listings and provides service. In Amsterdam, Marten works out international growth plans. Our team of in-house programmers is constantly developing the platform itself and Ernst & Young does our finances.

The first country we're active in is Sri Lanka, a beautiful country with many undiscovered places to stay. Due to it recently having opened up to tourism after decades of conflict, it is a great place to start and pilot the Neverbeen concept. We plan to expand to ten countries before the end of 2017.
