Beautiful and walkable
This area is scenic and easy to get around.
This spectacular 3,000 sq ft Notting Hill penthouse is enclosed by retractable glass walls and a sun-drenched, south-facing wraparound terrace, with a private rooftop spa: hot tub, sauna and ice bath. It offers seamless indoor-outdoor living and panoramic views. Inside, curated mid-century design is paired with bold contemporary art. Owned by a BAFTA-winning filmmaker samfarmar it is cinematic, stylish and serene: a rare urban oasis with private lift access, air con and secure indoor parking.
The space
I bought this place for the light. I walked in with the glass walls wide open, the whole of west London in front of me, and more or less signed on the spot. Everything since has been about making the most of that.
The heart of it is the terrace: it wraps around the top of the building, faces due south, and holds the sun from breakfast to last light. Off it sits the spa. The hot tub as the sun drops behind the rooftops, a sharp plunge into the ice bath then the sauna to put yourself back together. It's private, discreet, and entirely your own.
The garden is the thing I'm proudest of, because it's a real garden. Mature olive trees, apples and pears, strawberries in summer, all underplanted with lavender, rosemary, roses, agapanthus and grasses, with jasmine and a feathery tamarisk softening the edges and a Japanese acer that turns a ridiculous red every autumn.
Inside, the retractable glass dissolves the line between living room and terrace, so on a good day the whole floor becomes one open, sunlit space. I love art and furniture. The collection is curated, with its themes and thoughts, but something of a hotchpotch: some mid-century, some bolder contemporary pieces.
The kitchen is built around a slab of green marble. There's a lovely dining table that seats ten inside, and another out on the terrace for twelve. A private lift opens straight into the apartment, guests say it makes them feel faintly like James Bond.
Three bedrooms, each with a super king bed and its own bathroom. Egyptian cotton, underfloor heating, air conditioning, and Sonos running throughout and out onto the terrace.
As for where you are: Hyde Park and Kensington Palace are a hop and a skip away, and the reborn Whiteley quarter and the Six Senses hotel are on the doorstep. The Six Senses is wonderful for a drink or dinner, though I'll say it quietly: their terraces don't get the sun like mine, and no hotel suite gives you two whole floors of London to yourself, with nobody in the corridor.
A few practical things: super-fast Wi-Fi, a large TV with proper sound, a washer and dryer, an espresso machine, one secure underground parking space and a daytime porter, 7am to 7pm. You'll arrive to cut flowers, a stocked fridge and pantry, and drinks, all part of every stay. Complete discretion and guest privacy are always a given.
Guest access
Guests have the entire penthouse to themselves: every room, the full south-facing terrace, the rooftop garden, and the complete spa (hot tub, sauna and ice bath). The private lift opens directly into the apartment, so there are no shared hallways and no common areas to navigate. It's a whole home, yours alone for the stay.
Other things to note
This is a much-loved home. I only rent it a few months a year so it's far from a typical rental. You will notice this straight away. I've hosted on Airbnb for eleven years, and this penthouse is simply the newest of them. I review every booking personally, so do tell me a little about your trip.

Lives in London, United Kingdom
Eleven years of hosting on Airbnb, fifty-plus reviews and a 4.96 rating later, I still get a quiet thrill when someone says they love my home. This penthouse is the latest. I make documentaries for a living, so I'm away more than I'd like. That's how the hosting began, and I never quite stopped. I've lived in this corner of Notting Hill for years and love it: early swims at the Serpentine, the boho bustle of Portobello Road, fabulous restaurants on the doorstep. Ask me anything about the area.
