This 160m penthouse & terrace garden is ideal for sampling Athens' very core. Instant access to museums, entertainment districts, neoclassical architectural walks, shopping & open-air cinemas. You’ll love its belle époque aesthetic, innercity and Lykavitos Hill views, the silence at night despite the hyper-central location between Exarcheia and Omonoia Sq. When not exploring, chill under the pergola in the huge corner terrace. Ideal for academics, journos, couples, flaneurs, architects, artists.

The space

An architect-designed and immaculately-equipped apartment offered by the Hiboux creative architectural collective (URL HIDDEN) and part of a network of centrally-located properties in Athens, Beirut, Istanbul and Tunis, dedicated to reminding us of an earlier, kinder period of cosmopolitan coexistence in the Mediterranean.
Interiors feature 1950s oak-panelled floors, Persian carpets; period Victorian and French gas-lamps, appliques and suspension-lamps; antique Egyptian, Tunisian and Indian wooden furniture from the early 20th century; original paintings and photography. The huge terrace boasts citrus, olive and walnut trees, alongside an architectural masterpiece: an intricate, 1880s Parisian-style pergola, composed of over 500 individual pieces of welded metal.
Included in the booking is a unique, illustrated, insider's guide to contemporary Athens.

This was my second stay in this gem of an apartment in Athens. Iason is an excellent host, offering great suggestions for itineraries through the city as well as restaurant and museum recommendations. His apartment handbook is what only a true native Athenian can offer: an insider's guide to the sights, sounds, and rich aromas of this ancient metropolis with an exciting modern feel. I especially enjoyed a walking tour of the neighborhood with an erudite guide, and evenings spent on the expansive terrace amidst various trees and flowering plants. You could opt for a generic hotel but for a truly rich experience I recommend this home as a perfect base for exploring Athens.

So near and yet so far: this wonderful Athenian aerie is only a few minutes walk from public transportation or a leisurely stroll to the main sites in the city. You can grab the metro at Omonia Square and be at the Acropolis in under 20 minutes, or walk there in about 25. Once back in the spacious, well-furnished and secluded apartment, it's as if you are in a different city - an older Athens, slower and more philosophical. The neighborhood is a fabulous mix of old and new, with a faint vibe of the East Village of yore yet full of excellent restaurants, cafes, and bars. This will be an excellent home for your stay. If available, do not hesitate to reserve it. Now.

This was our second stay at Iason's home as we loved it so much the first time. He had arranged an easy and flexible check-in for us and was always available for any questions regarding the area and Greece in general. Would highly recommend Iason's place for a local perspective on Athens and is close to all the sites.

The apartment is Great, The check in was flawless. Area is hip and central and safe. Only problem and that's a big one is that in one of the bedrooms there is no aircondition. In Athens summer, 40 degrees Celsius outside it is just impossible to sleep in a non airconditioned room.

Response from Iason:
Dear Yuval - in your review you said that some issues weren’t accurately reflected in my listing description and that the place is not fully air-conditioned due to not having a/cs in both bedrooms but only in the main bedroom and the living room. Placing the a/cs there was a conscious choice made during the apartment's renovation, with an ecological principle in mind (alongside the installation of solar energy on the roof) that it's better to instal two 12.000BTU inverter a/cs in each end of the house, than one in each bedroom, resulting in the reduction of energy usage and wastage. This schema allows to split the cooling of the home into two areas, the public and the private. The guiding logic was that the apartment's position on the sixth floor is high enough to allow for the breeze to cool the room by leaving the door communicating with the terrace open, especially given the jasmine-covered pergola immediately outside that funnels coolness and a pleasant scent into the bedrooms. Should a/c be absolutely required, as on a few summer nights during the year, then the two bedrooms can leave their doors open and the one a/c can easily cool the other room.

Iason's apartment in central Athens was a treat! Spacious, with wonderful light and magnificent outside areas, it was a perfect location from which to explore Athens. The host communicated responsively and with generous suggestions and ideas for our visit. The online guide he provided with his own commentary on Athens today - culture, art, food, neighborhoods, politics - gave us invaluable insights to find excellent local venues. The apartment is central but off the regular tourist beat so we felt less like tourists than welcome guests among locals.

It was a great pleasure to host such interesting people as the two of you, and thank you for the opportunity to introduce you to a side of Athens that passes most outsiders by.
