Irvington Neighborhood Features

Portland’s Irvington neighborhood cannot be easily characterized. On its southern border is a sizeable strip of restaurants, bars, coffee houses, personal service establishments, and shop after shop. In this section of Irvington is the array between bars and shops with expensive lingerie. Irvington’s northern border is primarily residential, but where commercialism pops through tends to be high-end. And on its east and west sit two large parks.

In between? Well, this is the kind of neighborhood for which people enter the American dream. The houses, each unique and almost all attractive with their ancient trees and flowing green lawns, seem the picture of Americana that we agreed to when we entered the game. The children playing seem palpably blessed to have this as their foundation. And driving through you can almost hear the promise of a simpler country and a simpler time if we just hold onto neighborhoods like it.


Several grand dame old homes are located here, and many are on the National Register of Historic Places. Back when they were constructed, Irvington homes were considered upper middle class. The sense of Irvington history can be found in more than just the homes. The exclusive Irvington Club for tennis was founded in 1898. And, if you pay attention while strolling the streets, you’ll notice many sidewalks imprinted with the original craftsman’s name and date (”E. Wiles 1908”) and you’ll even find an occasional metal ring still attached to the curb, from back in the days when everyone had horses to tie up instead of automobiles to park.

Like any neighborhood that has been around since the turn of the last century, Irvington has suffered from periodic slumps over the years. Some houses fell into disrepair, and here and there a house was demolished and replaced with a “modern” mid-century apartment or commercial building. But overall, if you enjoy historic charm and unique homes with fine character and craftsmanship, you’ll love Irvington.

Bottom line vacation homes verses hotels saves you money on meals and drinks as you don't have to go out to eat three meals a day. And hotels charge more tax, parking, internet, movies, etc.

My recommendation is to book early. This site and others are set up for instant booking. I do sell up to 25-31 days every month as there are events and activities year round in beautiful, sunny Southern California. A reservation is considered booked with full payment. I'm unable to reserve dates until booked as we are on multiple sites. I don’t want you to lose your dates. Thanks for understanding.
- Yes, we can accommodate an early check in and/or late check out. Check in time is 4 pm and check out is 10 am. Our team of housekeepers need from 10 am to 4 pm to clean the house and every surface inside and out, wash all the linens, towels, dishes and stage the furnishings and supplies. (Up to 16 guests)

Thinking of checking in earlier than 4pm? Yes, I can provide an early check in (2 pm instead of 4 pm) by hiring an additional housekeeper and/or finishing laundry off-site ($75+tax) to ensure the place is cleaned and staged for you. As of right now the guests prior to you checks out at 10 am. The housekeepers need between 10 am - 2 pm to clean every surface inside and out entertainment spaces, sheets and towels, etc.

Thinking of checking out later than 10am? Yes, I can provide a late checkout (11:30 am instead of 10 am) by hiring an additional housekeeper ($75+tax) and finishing laundry off-site to get the place ready for our next guest by 4 pm.

If you would like a SUPER EARLY CHECK-IN (prior to 2 pm) or SUPER LATE CHECK-OUT (after 11:30 am) I would HIGHLY suggest to book the night before your check-in or the night of your check-out. As soon as possible, let me know if you would like to extend your stay as you will not regret it. I’m able to fulfill one early check-in or one late check-out per change over day due to the sheer number of hours needed to clean so I go by first reserve/book first serve.

- Yes, we may accommodate additional guests day and night. We would love for you to enjoy my home with family and friends. Yes, as mentioned in the contract, ad and house tips we offer a discounted base rate so groups of four and under may enjoy the house without paying for the maximum number of people/16 guests. Like hotels (suite w/ multiple rooms vs. single bed rooms), we charge for guests over four to cover out of pocket costs: mandatory occupancy tax, discounted rent, linens, towels, supplies, beds, utilities, maintenance, cleaning, breakage, wear and tear, etc. The price is proportionate to the number of guests. Like hotels, since the set up, washing linens and cleaning are the same as if a guests stays a partial versus the entire stay we need a maximum count of guests for your entire stay. Also hotels charge day fees, day pool passes, sell food and beverage, not allow outside food or beverages, merchandise and parking to help pay for the cost of day visitors. You save by bringing your own food and beverages! :)

The City is now very strict on occupancy guest count for both day and night and the mandatory occupancy tax.

Your reservation guest count for both day and night is the maximum number of guests allowed at the house at all times day or night. They are trying to prevent overcrowding of rooms/house, noisy parties and groups booking a hotel room or house for four guests but hosting daytime and overnight guests above this number. (The City will fine you $2500 per day for the guest count for both day and night not being accurate.) The discount/fee is $25+tax per person per day and or night over four guests plus the mandatory city occupancy tax. Thanks for letting us know your accurate guest count. You can also increase your guest count at anytime. Please just let us know!

Place is very roomy and super convieantly located to all a large group needs. It is a quiet neighborhood, my friends went for a big in the park every day. The sleeping arrangements are odd for large groups but are very comfortable. (Read the bed subscription and plan out where folks are going to before booking is all) The hosts are super nice and helpful. And super responsive... Were on point with the couple issues that came up.

Good NE PDX location, walkable to grocery stores and some good restaurants. Mass transit (Max Station) is about 1/2 mile away, and bus stops very close to the house. Quiet street in a nice neighborhood. Kitchen is well equipped, and the house is clean and secure. Yes, I'd stay here again.

So in 1996 I bought my first home and started the "shared economy" by renting rooms to colleagues and friends while remodeling the homes on the side too. Before you knew it I had several homes.

After surviving hardships that almost killed and destroyed me (domestic violence, $300K forgery, insurance fraud, guns (illegal assault weapon/ convicted felon), maybe drugs, alcohol and finally a divorce) I fought for "justice" and earned my safety independence back to control my own destiny! So I started converting my homes into entertainment vacation rentals to pay the forgery/theft, legal bills, and my mortgage.

My house contractors inspect, stage and manage the home remodel, stage, clean, fix, replenish, garden and we offer special request services.
