As seen on Netflix's hit series 'Taste of the Country,' Ironhorse Ranch is the secondary property featured on show and just minutes away from South Pond Farms.
This luxury accommodation is private while remaining easily accessible in the Kawartha Lakes. Perfect for a special romantic escape, girl's getaway, hosting a retreat or just to relax and reconnect with family and friends. Just 90 minutes outside of Toronto, this is the ideal weekend escape.

The space
Cleared, envisioned, constructed by Shawn Sutcliffe.

Water. Pasture. Gently rolling landscape. This is what Shawn Sutcliffe saw in 1997 when he bought the property that was to become Iron Horse Ranch. He cleared the land noting the possibilities it offered for farming and buildings, ponds and trees. For all of these buildings he constructed, the cover bridge, the house, the drive-shed, and the barn he used honest natural components he had salvaged over the years.

The Ranch house was originally envisioned as a typical stone house circa 1860's which would have evolved with wings on either side of the main core over time as families grew. It features eleven foot ceilings throughout and twenty feet in the "buffalo room"- named after the buffalo head that graces this great room. The principal feature of the house is the British Columbia fir timber which was reclaimed from the old Britain factory in Peterborough, Ontario. The stone was repurposed from the Domtar paper mill plant in St. Catherines, Ontario. The fireplace has a "I" beam from Carnegie Steel who were one of the very first steel manufacturers in the US. The entrance was saved from Sir Sam Hughes' personal residence in Lindsay, Ontario. Hughes was the Minster of Defence at the turn of the century. The timber on the front porch was reclaimed from Mountain View Air Base in Prince Edward County. The house is heated from a geothermal system originating in the pond. Heating lines reach into the mortar joints of the stone walls.

The evolution of Ironhorse is truly one of a kind. The changing landscape lends itself to the history of rural Ontario; from "back country" to working farms and barren landscapes to majestic architectural developments, Ironhorse represents the changing face of agriculture in the province.

Hi there, I'm Danielle, the owner of South Pond Farms. We have two beautiful offering for you: Ironhorse Ranch which is just down the road from SPF. Shawn Sutcliffe built this beautiful private ranch for which we hope you choose to come and spend time at. It is the perfect spot deep set within nature where you can immerse yourself outdoors, or luxuriously indoors. Each detail in this home is beautiful & thoughtful. You'll find something new & interesting each time you stay. This home is perfect for larger groups as it sleeps 8, great for families or a group of friends. On the other hand, the South Pond Cottage is great for a solo retreat, a romantic getaway for a couple or a spot to spend some time with a few friends. It sleeps 4 and is cozy inside, whereas you can immerse yourself in nature with the farm surrounding you and the trails close by. The cottage boasts some great features like a sauna, rainfall shower, fireplace & large windows with incredible natural light. Both properties are private, isolated, clean and comfortable.
