4 star Bed and Breakfast, situated on the edge of the village with country views from every window, Although rural, Oxford and London are both accessible. Breakfast is home cooked using local and home made produce. A warm welcome guaranteed.

The space

Hope Cottage is a haven of peace and quiet (apart from the birdsong and the breeze rustling in the trees). Despite our very rural position, we are only a 5 minute walk from the centre of an idyllic Oxfordshire village, and 3 miles from the riverside market town of Wallingford. Breakfast is included and I use eggs from our own hens, sausages and bacon from our local butcher, the orange juice is squeezed freshly each morning and I make all my own bread. We have lots of pamphlets and local tourist information available and having lived here for 20 years I can give advice on places to go and to see. The rooms are all en suite with showers. In each room a comprehensive hospitality tray is provided with a range of teas and coffees, fresh milk and home made biscuits. There is also a TV and free WiFi.
We are new to Airbnb but a look at our Trip Advisor site, Hope Cottage Tours, will tell you what other guests thought of their stay with us. We also have a web site (website hidden) for more information.

Guest access

Guests have access to our conservatory, which is a lovely open airy space to enjoy the views on cooler days and evenings, and the garden where you can enjoy our comfortable seating area and enjoy the lovely west facing views and on a clear night enjoy some spectacular sunsets. We have no street lights in the village so you can enjoy a very clear view of the night sky.

Interaction with guests

I interact as much or as little with the guests as they wish. Sometimes people like to be left on their own to explore but if guests need any advice or help about the house or the area, I live in the house so will be available.

We are quite laid back here at Hope Cottage but I think as we consider Hope Cottage to be a home away from home we expect guests to behave the same as they would in their own home. Smoking outside please and pets by prior arrangement, we have hens and ducks so we have to be careful about other animals in the garden.

We have had an amazing stay at the hope cottage. Sue's place is lovely, cozy, very clean and well located. Sue is also a great host: she will prepare a home made breakfast for you in the morning and serve it in her veranda, so that you can enjoy the view of her lovely garden. She is also very keen on giving you any piece of advice for your stay/ visit in the area. We definitely recommend the hope cottage!

I had to come twice to Brightwell to attend some courses at the Bach Center. I like experiences so I figured I'd try two different places, but after staying at Sue and Bob's shepherd's hut the first time I simply couldn't consider going anywhere else the second time. So I stayed in their lovely garden room on my second trip. If you're looking for some gorgeous, quiet, peaceful garden to recharge your batteries, this is the ideal place to stay. I am not one to travel to the same place several time, but Sue and Bob's cottage will forever hold a very special place in my heart and it definitely became a destination for me. Be ready Sue and Bob, I'm not sure if that's a promise or a threat, but I'LL BE BACK!! Thank you both for making my experience in Brightwell that much more meaningful

A lovely little cottage in a secluded village but close to the attractive town of Wallingford. The room, hosts and service was all faultless.

We had a fabulous relaxed weekend staying in Sue's garden room. Sue was a great host, although she had to stay up late waiting for our arrival, she still greeted us with a welcoming smile and talked us through directions directly to her front door. The breakfast: Ahhhh what a lovely feast we had, enjoying many homemade delights. Sue was very approachable and nothing was too much trouble.

Beautiful scenery, comfortable facilities and wonderful welcoming hosts. I am so glad I chose to stay with Susan and her husband for my stay in Oxfordshire, they were extremely welcoming and friendly and they were always on hand to offer advice on places to go and things to do. The room was amazing, so comfortable and light and airy, which was perfect for a hot day in summertime. Breakfast was delicious and I really can't fault my stay here, I will certainly be going back and would highly recommend Hope Cottage for anyone looking to stay in the area.

I come from Newcastle upon Tyne, studied in Manchester, worked in London and spent a year in Barbados but now live in the idyllic rural village of Brightwell cum Sotwell. My hobbies are gardening and cooking (often cooking the fruits of my gardening.) I used to be a teacher and also ran our village pub for 5 years but running our Bed and Breakfast is where I am happiest - I am lucky to live in an amazing place and love sharing it with guests. Although I love living in Oxfordshire in the summer I do not enjoy winter and would ideally like to escape to the sun when it's cold.
