Our 10-year old open, airy house is, located in a woodsy clearing. The hard-pack roads are well-kept year 'round. Private lakes are clean. Tanglewood and Jacob's Pillow are nearby. Ski in winter. Hike state parks or Appalachian trail.

We require that our guests and members of the party to be in the guest house verify vaccination against the COVID-19 virus; or documented test results of "negative" in 3 days or less from the check-in date.

The open floor plan includes great room with 22' cathedral ceiling and passive solar window wall. Dishes, flatware, glass wear, grill utensils, pots, pans, cooking utensils, wine glasses, beer mugs, all included. 3 + bedrooms sleep up to 9. Master B.R. suite on 1st floor, 2 ½ baths, jetted tub in master bathroom & double-head walk-in shower. Wi-fi included; flat-screen TV is connected to a roof antenna, not cable or satellite. Apple TV and a Blue-ray DVD are provided. We have good cell reception. Balconies: one on first floor off the dining area, and the other upstairs, off the loft suite. Dining area seats 8 and two at the center-island bar, more with extra chairs. We're heated by in-floor hydronic radiant heat and a passive solar southern window wall. The attached garage is for two ordinary cars; off-road parking for four added cars. We're strictly "NO smoking" indoors, and no open flames in the house. There are no ducts blowing hot air or dust in this house. Large casement windows provide great cross-ventilation without air conditioning, and helped by electric fans.

We're in a private community in a forest with five small, clean lakes for the use of residents and guests. Well-maintained hard-packed roads are readily passable in all weather conditions. We're 3 miles from Jacob's Pillow Dance Center; 25 minutes from Tanglewood's gate, and less from Shakespeare and Co. It's an hour's drive to Williamstown Summer Theater and the Clark Art Museum.

Live theater performances are scheduled by Shakespeare & Co., and Berkshire Theater Group, in Lenox, Pittsfield, Stockbridge and Great Barrington from color season in the fall through winter and spring before the Summer Season's rich array of performances in many venues.
The local bar-and-restaurant, Papa Bob's, is 1.2 miles away. They offer a casual atmosphere and a short menu of snacks and tasty lunches and dinners. Sherwood Shoppe, a convenience-store/diner provides casual atmosphere, and is clean and offers a tasty menu of breakfast and lunches/dinners. It's less than 1 mile from our place. Rt. 8 Pub and Canna Corner is 5 miles north on Rt. 8.
In Lee and Lenox, 10 and 15 miles from here, you'll find Vietnamese, Indian, Chinese, Peruvian, Italian and French restaurants among pastry shops, coffee houses, taverns, seafood, and steaks'n' chops' casual greatness!
The Prime Outlets have a mall on the Becket side of Lee a couple hundred yards from the Lee exit off the Mass Turnpike. There are shops in Lee, Lenox and Stockbridge that feature local crafts, handmade chocolate, gourmet and vegetarian or casual dining, and unique clothing and accessory shops, 'antiques' and home-decor showrooms.
Bicyclists and motorcycle enthusiasts enjoy the local roadways and there are three access points to the Appalachian Trail within six or seven miles from here.

Where you’ll be

Becket, Massachusetts, United States

We're located in a forested subdivision of Becket. The air is sweet, our acreage is covered by native grasses and wildflowers and a year-'round creek flows to the small lake across the road and the sloping lot that fronts on the dammed lake. Neighbors are cordial, and we encourage our guests to try the little convenience store and diner less than a mile away where local banter is friendly and the food is excellent.

Robb and I are both semi-retired, and we built this project and moved in 9 years ago. It's important to us that in-floor radiant heat is supplemented by passive solar and that our, "footprint" is as small as we can manage. We dearly love living in this young forest. Wild berries and wildflowers surprise and intrigue us with the changes of every season. We follow news on PBS and local outlets; and watch Apple TV and reruns of Poldark. Favorite dining-out spots are local Indian and Mexican restaurants as well as The Dream Away Lodge (look it up on the internet) and the diner a mile away that scrambles fresh eggs and home made home fries for breakfast (Website hidden by Airbnb) We read authors as diverse as Elaine Pagels and Janet Evanovich. Our cars are 12 and 16 years old. We listen to music from the 18th century to the 21st; remember when the "golden oldies" were "top 40 hits" and appreciate skilled blue-grass pickers as much as wonderful cool jazz musicians, and Bach (Website hidden by Airbnb) We take pride in honoring your privacy and are deeply grateful for, and consistently pleasantly surprised by, the tender care our premises get from our paying guests. (Website hidden by Airbnb) Our 2 single rooms with shared full bath and sitting room are not available until the COVID-19 virus is under control. For now, look into our 3+ B.R. fully furnished house with attached garage. We're right next door.

During your stay

We're available by phone or about 100' away to chat if we're home. Mostly, our guests can rely on us for information about restaurants in the area, directions for travel - and we include wi-fi connection in the rent so their own hi-tech equipment can provide them with directions, etc. Occasionally, we find ourselves around the same campfire on our grounds; but we're very sensitive to our guests' preference for privacy.
