The Aurora Lodge is a 2200 square foot houseboat located on Vee Lake, where the Aurora happens right outside our door. It is a 20 minute drive outside of Yellowknife.
The lodge has two rooms, each with a queen size bed and a personal heater you control
The living space area includes the kitchen, bar, and lounge area with a wood burning fireplace. There’s also 2 decks and the entire lake for aurora viewing.
Message us to inquire about our VIP packages and activities.
The space
The Aurora Lodge is FULLY OFF THE GRID.
We are in the most phenomenal location to see the Aurora, on our private lake.
They Aurora is happening right outside your bedroom window.
In SUMMERTIME, we take a power boat. IF water levels are too low, we must hike down a trail 5-10 minutes walk depending on your speed. Then we cross the lake in canoe.
I suggest packing light baggage in summer because you will have to carry your bags down trail. (Unless doing VIP, then i will carry bags for you)
In WINTER the Lodge freezes into the ice and we can drive right to the house.
The location is 17 kilometers outside of Yellowknife and allows for amazing Aurora viewing far from city light pollution.
The lodge is FULLY OFF THE GRID -it is completely self-sufficient, relying on propane gas for heat and appliances. We also have a wood fireplace.
For POWER we use generator and solar panels that store power in batteries for electricity.
The hosts live upstairs and will be there to make sure all systems run properly and the guests can focus on enjoying their visit without worries.
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire main floor, which includes bedrooms, kitchen, bar, and lounge area where Fireplace is located.
Guests also have access to the front and back deck to watch the Aurora.
We have countless hiking trails and lakes to paddle, swim, or fish from.
In WINTER, the same areas are used to snowmobile, hike, snowshoe or cross country ski, or kite ski.
During your stay
Hosts will be available at the lodge to help with any issues that come up.
Other things to note
WANT TO SEE AURORA??
Many people pay $90-$150 or more for only a few hours to see the northern lights with other tour operators. (And they freeze on the bus during those hours of "Aurora Hunting")
Guests who stay with us have all the time and opportunity to see Aurora.
You STAY WARM inside the house until the Aurora becomes active, then you go outside to take photos.
From sundown to sunrise you have opportunity to see the Aurora at no extra cost, giving you an UNLIMITED chance to see Aurora.
